That was self-produced wasn't it? Regardless, I'll concur that
the dynamics, and even mixing levels in several places, could've
used some help.

Yes, it was self-produced, but it was mixed by The Caveman. I feel that
his mixes continue to get worse and worse, muddier and muddier. DT needs
to go with someone who can give them what they need: more definition in
their sound.
The LTE albums sounded pretty good with Shirley's mixing, mainly because
they were a more "raw" sounding band and thus the "raw" sounding mix
worked pretty well for them. But Dream Theater is a much more refined
sound, and Shirley can't give them that sound. There needs to be an aural
space for each instrument, so you can hear each individual voice of the
band without much difficulty. This is what they had with their first few
albums--and Awake is by far the best with this sound--and it's what they
need in their sound again. With Shirley's mixes, they sound like a garage
band.

Pain of Salvation is goot! Remedy Lane is great, but so is Concrete Lake and
Perfect Element, so toss a few coins or something!

Greetings Jamoids,
OK so I ranted a couple of days ago on the cancelling of the Montpellier
show.
I said that I will not be able to see them this year what with ticket prices
ect... at the last minute.
Well I cracked, I have to see them it's a drug.
I'm not going to let DT's management keep me from seeing DT.
/*** Rant ONLINE **/
So :
323 euros plane ticket (near last minute flight for Air France with
reduction !!)
34 euros concert ticket.
45 euros cheep Paris hotel for the night
This equals 402 euros (the same in dollars).
At Montpellier it would have cost me :
29 euros concert ticket.
~15 euros gas for the car
No hotel.
equals 44 euros.
I'm paying 9 times more and will be eating dry speghetti for the next 3
months but what the fuck I love DT.
