OK, so everyone goint to the Hammy Apollo in Jan, I've just got tickets from
TicketBastard, and it seems as though there is limited standing.
Me being lucky living in London, thought I'd pop down to the venue and get
them over the counter, but they've stopped selling direct, leaving me the
only option to go through Ticket*******.
The website gives the option of standing only tickets - strange as it is an
all seated venue. Afer a little investigation, it seems that for some gigs
they take out a few rows at the front in the stalls to allow standing (why
they did not do this in Jan '01 I don't know).
So, question for Graham - you said you managed to get front row seats - are
you sure they are what you think they are? Yes, you might have front row,
but maybe the front row in reality is ten rows behind all the people
standing! Or maybe you've opted for front row of the circle in your old
age?!!!!!!!
Or maybe I've got standing tickets behind ten rows of seated people!!!!!
What do you all reckon who have experienced ticket******** and have ordered
your tickets?
Cheers
Doug

In a mind-blowing e-mail sent on the extremely historic date of 8/19/03 9:39
AM, Rob P thusly spaketh:

Ya know what Rob? I have probably less skill in terms of playing any musical
instrument, let alone to write music, than you do. And yet I'm *still*
excited abooot the contest. Just because I can't dig deep into the time sigs
of each section or whatever doesn't mean that it isn't exciting.
Actually, I was real happy that the band has provided images of their charts
- once a song is released, we'll all be able to follow along with what is
played and understand what they meant. Before that, even us non-musicall
talented fans can appreciate to a limited degree all the stuff that's going
on in the track.
And I for one will be curious to hear all the different interpretations that
people/bands come up with just by looking at those charts.
Last but not least, this idea is *very* unique - how many bands offer this
kind of insight into the writing of their music, or come up with an idea
along these lines? My guess is none - it hasn't been done before, or at
least I've never heard of the idea. It's just another reason why DT is IMO
so very cool.
Let's not forget why the band aren't just gonna "give us a clip of the song"
- they want everyone to hear the album in it's entirity when it's released -
they don't want fans to start jumping to conclusions before they're able to
hear the full track. They're building up excitement for the new release. As
far as I'm concerned, releasing clips of the songs can be somewhat
anti-climatic as you already know what you're gonna get when the CD is
released. This way you don't.

Great post Doug, you've made my month. I wasn't looking forward to this
gig, because of the all-seater fiasco last time, and I hadn't booked
tickets. But now I can stand, not see properly, and have people spill beer
on me - the perfect live experience!
However I have just booked for:
King's X 19/09
Spock's Beard 22/10
Porcupine Tree 30/11
Dream Theater 17/01
My credit card has melted, but I am very, _very_ happy. It's gonna be a
winter of great gigs.
Elbow have managed to sell out the Astoria, but I know someone who might be
able to get tickets for that one. Also, The Darkness have sold out Brixton
Academy. It says "call venue for tickets", but from previous experience I'm
not confident.

I just checked the beard's website, no mention of a tour date on October 22.
Where is it?
On that note, I wanna see the beard... why won't they come to Canada?! :)

Probably for the same reason that Rush won't come to the UK.

Hello there. I can totally understand what you're going through. I feel the same way that you do about not feeling like I need another version of TTT. But I'm definitely not getting rid of my bootlegs, since I enjoy listening to them once in a while (although I don't think I have as many as you do and am not in desperate need of the money). But, right now, I'm definitely spending my money on other bands out there, and not on the DT official bootlegs, which don't give me anything new.

This is something that I consider to be normal. Each one of us progresses with time, and our tastes change. It's a process that most of us face, even if the changes in our preferences are minor. I don't think I'm even getting close to saying good-bye to DT, since I still love them, but right now I'm not that certain that they're still my favorite band. They're still among my favorite bands, but I'm not as obsessed about them as I was before. The good thing about DT is that they always manage to sound fresh with every new album, so that helps in not making me grow tired of the same thing every time around.

Ytsejam is the only mailing list I'm on, but I wander into message boards quite often...

There's no use in fighting it. I'm sure you'll still like DT as the years go on, even if you've matured out of the obsession phase. As long as you don't do a 180 and start ripping on DT, you're fine with me :-)
