Just found an alleged review of the forthcoming album:
    <http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6248406&style=music&frm=lk_itchy>

The Metropolis saga comes to an end with a shock:

Listening to a promotional copy of Dream Theater's new album,
Metropolis Pt. 3: The Last Dance (drops October 7th on Elektra) I can
only be reminded yet again why they are progressive metal's premier
act. The final chapter in the Metropolis saga, started in 1992 with
Images and Words and continued in 1999 with Scenes From a Memory, is
an all-out assault on the senses. This is rock musicianship at its
finest, which will make the band's shocking farewell statement in the
liner notes seem that much more unfair to the band's legion of
fans. After delievering an album that seamlessly meshes the grandeur
of a symphony orchestra, the rawness of classic metal in the vien of
early Metallica, and the trademark progresive sound the band claimed
as its own with the afformentioned Images and Words, they are going
out on top and splitting the band following their upcoming word
tour. Citing the need to pursue their myriad of solo and side
projects, the members will part ways in late 2004. This is surely
something that will reverberate throughout the prog community and the
band's decision will probably be debated forever among the fans. They
will leave with an amazing legacy and what is probably the best work
of their career in this final album.

what the f00k? Met part 3 AND they're gonna split up after recording it? they better not! cited from DT.net:

"Some online stores, such as CDUniverse, have begun taking pre-orders for the new Dream Theater album and mention October 7th as the release date. This date is INCORRECT, so if you pre-order the album and expect it to be released on October 7th, you will be sorely disappointed."

I personally like this review better off the same site:

"this is the best album since images and words it has magical powers i can't tell you about!"

I hope this is a hoax... Any way of confirming this? Like posting on the MP forum or something.... cause I REALLY have to know if DT are going to split up :)

It is, I'm sure someone just got bored and decided to make something up. I seem to remember someone (specifically MP) saying that SFAM was the last in the Metropolis Doxology....

It's just a review from any random passer by on the site, so I strongly doubt it's correct. Of course, I'll look like a dope if it turns out to be true, but less of a dope than I would if I say "OMG, DT are breaking up!!!" and it's yet another piece of the internet urban legend culture.

Btw: did you hear that Phil Collins will be touring with Opeth, doing an amazing special simultaneous drum and singing duet? I can't wait to hear him do Serenity Painted Death.

Yep, I was convinced it was a hoax from the first few words. We've heard over the years that there will be no new concept album for a few years at least, the new album is song oriented (not a concept album), and no-one's side projects get in the way of DT.

It was probably another one of those lame fake reviews that aren't funny but someone worked hard on it so they said "Hmm, maybe I can get this submitted on an online store".

I also just saw one of the other "reviews" from the site...

"Awesome CD This album is awesome, the pre-release copy I got sounds great- Love the hot clipping mix, sounds sooo compressed and tight. Nice job by Shirley as always. Studio version of the Instrumedley, Metropolis 2 demo (remastered), plus 6 great new in your face metal songs, it's all here. This CD will ROCK when it hits stores."

This one is almost worse than the first one... lol. Some people are sad.

    AAAARRGHHHH!!!!!!

Queensryche is playing four...count them...FOUR...dates in Indiana, but OFB cant play ONE??

What is it with DT and Indiana??

    Sigh...

Don't be silly, Buddy Holly is totally incompatible with Opeth...

    Hi there Charlie,

Now it probably would have good if I had actually read properly what Graham had written about his tickets being for Manchester! (apologies Graham!)

So all the seats are going downstairs - makes sense and should make for bigger capacity and better atmosphere.

    Hopefully see you there!

    Cheers
