Sure... Nightingale is one of numerous projects with which Dan Swano
has been associated. It's a lot less intense than his Pan-thy-Monium or
Edge of Sanity projects (or his solo CD MOONTOWER), all of which involve
Dan's extreme-metal vox. Nightingale has him actually singing and he
    has a good voice.

My friend Jim Raggi apparently just finished a long phone interview with
Dan -- they're good friends, and Jim sponsored Nightingale's appearance
at ProgPower USA 2.0, back in 2001 -- and there's a far darker, very
fascinating back-story to the Nightingale CDs. I'll have to find out
from Jim where and when the interview will appear; presumably it will be
in Jim's 'zine LAMENTATIONS OF THE FLAME PRINCESS.

Cool, something else to hear from the new CD! The songs he debuted at
    ProgPower sounded GREAT!

That's one reason why his Ocean Machine CD is my favorite CD of all time
-- the amount of emotion and the amount of himself that he poured into
it is nothing short of amazing. The song "Funeral" still gives me the
    willies. :)

thought this was an interesting little take on trying to group Yes's different "phases" together:

take it for what it's worth. -eric

well, with all this talk about Devin Townsend lately, it's kinda' gotten me intrigued to check out some of his stuff. however, i've heard that stylistically, he's ALL over the board from album to album. what albums would get what kind of a rating/classification??? the ONLY album i've heard Devin on is Steve Vai's "Sex and Religion". that's ALL i have to base my opinion so far concerning Devin, & it didn't leave me hoping to hear much more from him, honestly. how does his work with Vai stack up on the "Devin Scale"??? thanks. -eric

In my opinion, Devin's effort on Vai doesnt describe his solo work. Devy didn't play any guitar or compose on that album, if I remember correctly. In contrast with Devy's solo stuff, it's hard to say what you would like. What would you be more of a fan of? Ocean Machine / Biomech and Terria are my personal faves, as they combine Devy's powerful voice with a bit of melody (like in Tiny Tears, for example), mixed with a bit of good ol' Hevy Devy-ness (like in Seventh Wave). If you are more into the experimental / heavier stuff, Physicist and Infinity are the albums to go with. While I like those two, I found that they did a lot of credit towards my hypothesis that Devy is brilliant but insane. The song writing and structure in those two albums just make you wonder what the hell is going through his head ;-) Of course, if you'd like even MORE insights into his craziness, check out Strapping Young Lad, which can be summed up by a few comments posted on his website www.hevydevy.com ; "SYL sounds like the end of the world" & "one truly pissed off bastard!"

It's all in the ear of the beholder.... =)

I only have "Songs from the Lions Cage" but it's comparable to '80s Marillion, Misplaced Childhood or Clutching at Straws era. That album has a good vocalist and they mix in a decent amount of instrumental sections. I like the CD -- I'll have to try their newer ones.
