Been quite some time since I've posted. I still read the jam every day
(I've especially been interested in the recent Devin Townsend thread. I
hope to get a CD or two of his sometime soon), bu just don't post like I did
    several years ago.
Anyway, potentially grteat news about Chris Degarmo working with Queensryche
again. Can't wait to hear what comes of that.
I also have a question for anyone who might know. I have a Queensryche box
set that a friend of mine gave to me a few years ago. I'm not necessarily
planning on selling it, but am curious as to what it might be worth since
I've never seen it anywhere else. It's called "Operation Empire." It comes
in a box about the size of a 33 LP. It's limited edition (mine is numbered
0137 out of 1,000) and contains a special edition of the Empire CD (same
music, with limited edition pop-up cover), 3 CD singles/Maxi-CDs for Jet
City Woman, Silent Lucidity, and Empire, a metal pin with the ryche logo, a
metal necklace with the same logo, and a limited edition Empire t-shirt.
The set I have is in near mint condition (the box shows very slight wear,
but the contents are near perfect). Anyway, has anyone out there heard of
or seen this set anywhere, and if so, how much would it be worth? Thanks.

    Dale R. Newberry

    Daniel, Bag the HTML Man!

This is THE recommendation for Bozio - "Danger Money" by U.K. Features Eddy
Jobson (Violin/Keys), John Wetton (Bass/Vocals), Terry Bozio (Drums)

He did awesome stuff for Zappa too, which I believe is how he came to fame
    in the first place.
Of course you could also go for his stuff w/ Missing Persons, lol ;-)

Hello! Here are various replies about a variety of topics:

Terry Bozzio - I love Terry Bozzio's drumming. His style is so fresh, so loose, so melodic. He has played in a lot of bands and has a lot of recordings out, of which I only have a limited few. Here are the ones I recommend you get: Explorers Club (both of the cds), Vai - Sex and Religion (with Devin Townsend on vocals), Bozzio Levin Stevens - Situation Dangerous. I have an album called Polytown (Mick Karn, David Torn and Bozzio) which is ok, but I wouldn't say it's great. It's too calm and laid back for my tastes. I also have his cd with Billy Sheehan - 9 Short Films, which I haven't listened to yet. If you want to learn about other amazing drummers, try getting your hands on stuff by the following bands: Planet X (Virgil Donati is unbelievable), Attention Deficit and Primus up to "Tales from the Punchbowl" (Tim Alexander, ex-drummer for Primus), Dixie Dregs (Rod Morgenstein), Fates Warning (Mark Zonder), CAB and Niacin (Dennis Chambers), Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Bear!
d), Dave Weckl Band (Dave Weckl), Gordian Knot (Sean Reinert, mostly), Rush (Neil Peart), Symphony X (Jason Rullo), Ark (John Macaluso sp?), Pain of Salvation (don't know the drummer's name). There's a lot more that are insane as well, but I think you have plenty to work on right there. Once you listen to drummers like Donati and Bozzio, there's a chance Portnoy could be displaced on your favorite drummer position. Portnoy is great, no doubt about it, but there are some beasts out there that are just unreal...

New Queensryche - I think it's pretty weird that some Queensryche fans are going crazy over the fact that DeGarmo is returning to the band. If I remember correctly, when Hear in the New Frontier came out and everybody almost unanimously said the album sucked, many Queensryche followers blamed that album on DeGarmo, and were optimistic about a better direction after he left. It seems like now they're expecting his return to revitalize the band and their sound. Quite ironic.

Spock's Beard - Well, SB is back in the studio. I think SB without Neal will still sound great. After listening to Ryo Okumoto's solo album (which is very good), and considering the caliber of musicians that are still left on the band, there's still plenty of chops and creativity left in the band.

I wouldn't know personally, but I know someone who has it..they tell me they
paid $80 for theirs, and that they've seen the set sell for around $300. I
don't know if that means you could get nearly that for it..that's just what
I hear. I could refer you to a collector who'd have betting insight if
you're really that interested and would like something more concrete.

Personally (as a huge QR fan), I don't see how it's worth all that much, but
    that's me. I'm not a collector.

    hey all!

Long time fan of the band EVENT even back when they were Mystic Fishook.

I may be one of the few here who LOVED their last CD Human Condition and
so I was very eager to hear their latest release. "Scratching at the
Surface" arrived very late yesterday (Damn snow) and I got a chance to
start spinning this this morning. So far I'm in love. This is
amazing...more raw, earthier, heavy, funk splashed all over this.
Jay's Bass is smokin...Shaun is continuing to amaze on the
Guitar...Dave's Vocals are as usual top notch Matt keeps on showing us
amazing chops. Why aren't more people raving over his drumming? Tight,
    groovin.

This is not your typical prog metal..don't even categorize this. This
    is so unqiue...slammin...crossing
    boundaries...melding..blending...bending..creating whole new
    types....this CD defies labeling.

these guys are young...their musical hunger shows in their
voices...their lyrics comment more on thoughts and observation both
inner and outer selves. each release from this band has explored and
blended new directions truly progressive but refusing to be placed
squarely in a specific progressive music genre.

Bravo EVENT you have done it again! Lot's more listens before I write
    this up indepth for VRI

And EVENT...next time yer back in VA....dinner at my place!

Yes Mike Bahr lives and is alive and well.
For those who haven't been around to know who he is, please don't ask
it will only open a big can of ugly worms.

I don't think he has posted here, but, he has posted on mp.com forum
regarding any oustanding Prism Records orders.
If he still owes you any CD's, he has offered to fullfill these
    orders.

His offer seems to be genuine, I have emailed him about stuff he owes
me and has responded quite quickly and he says I'll get my stuff next
    month.

I'd suggest Virgil Donati on Planet X's "Moonbabies" and "Live From Oz". He's got some solo cd's too but I don't have any. He's incredible live!! Trevor ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment

His offer is, indeed, genuine. He has filled a number of others' orders as well, and has given a HUGE amount of stuff from his own (rather enormous) collection of stuff--extreme rarities, as I understand it--to help to make amends for his past doings. He really wants to make this better, as I see it.

    Hi.

The version released under the name EVENT has one more track than the Mystic Fishook version called "Perfect Illusion - Mirror Image" and some versions of that CD also contain a so-called remix version of that instrumental track whose name escapes me, as I left the CD at home today.

And I think that along side Pain Of Salvation, EVENT is quite possibly the most innovative band out there right now.

The guitarist proves on Electric Skies that he just rips apart the floor with his licks. Take the two instrumental tracks for example. That Shaun sure knows how to play!! :) ----- Original Message ----- From: Rick Audet To: Multiple recipients of list Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2003 8:09 PM Subject: Re: Ytsejam Alumnus! EVENT!
