Hey, I never said BUY a copy of Remedy Lane, I said GET one.
Fact is, everyone I've introduced this album to thought it was amazingly
    good.
IMHO, this album is their most mature so far, and it really is worth a
    listen.
I know - I spent 3 years ignoring all the people that said "listen to
PoS", and now I realize what a fool I've been...

Sorry, I can't let this one go. For those who still haven't heard it,
SAMPLE it first. Trust me. POS is an interesting band, no doubt, but as
some are prone to say, your mileage may vary. A few years ago I went out
and bought every POS album available at the time and my ears/brain
couldn't believe the abuse I put them through. To say the least, POS
didn't appeal to me at all. I'd hate it to happen to anyone else. SAMPLE
    before you buy.

Someone mentioned Pagan=B9s Mind. I just bought their new CD Celestial
Entrance and it has become my new favorite CD. They sound a lot like what D
    T
should have been after Images and Words. Definitely on the =B3Heavy Metal=B2
side of Prog though. I absolutely love it.

I think most people on this list probably do sample albums before they buy
them anyway. Personally I like the album, but I don't rank it in the
all-time classics like some people. For those of you who haven't heard
them, if I had to compare them to DT, I would say that they are not that
similar. Their playing is not quite as good, and they are more contemporary
and a little darker in their sound. Not as "prog" either.

Check out www.raband.net for some info/samples on
their album. They are a new band out of Boston,
Massachussetts, and this is their first album, I
believe. They sound like they would be getting radio
play... but they haven't really broken into the NY
market. It's rock, basically... can get pretty heavy,
& they use some interesting middle eastern
chords/melodies. Their single Do You Call My Name
kicks ass :) It's not the most groundbreaking CD but
it's good for what it is, and I really like it.

Aah, Pain of Salvation... I was very impressed when Entropia came
out, it's a very eclectic, unique album that showed a lot of
potential from the band... and with each subsequent album my interest
has dropped lower and lower. Why? Because they don't sound that
different from your ordinary progressive metal anymore. They're just
a good band with a good singer now, their albums are decent but
nowhere near special as Entropia was.

Still, I think you should sample them. There's no accounting for
    taste, etc..

I would call it Alternative/Nu Metal sounding.
Standard song structure, no extra long songs. More
    like Korn than DT...

    > Platypus - Ice Cycles

Good, but not as good as "When Pus Comes To Shove", IMHO.

    > Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane

I still haven't given this one thorough, multiple listens although I like
    Entropia and The Perfect Element.

    > Porcupine Tree - In absentia

Very good, as are most PT CD's. Definitely in my Top Ten for 2002...

    > Gordian Knot - Emergent

Just got this today and am listening to it right now! The End Records
(www.theendrecords.com) has it for only $12 with free shipping!

    > Flower Kings - Unfold the future

This one takes a few listens. On my first listen, I thought it was just
"okay". But it's been growing on me with repeated listenings. I still
don't like some of the jazz and improv stuff on it, but songs like "The
Truth Will Set You Free", "Silent Inferno" and "Devil's Playground" are new
    TFK groundbreakers.

    > Planet X - Moon Babies

    On my "buy" list...

There is a French Progressive Melodic Metal band called "Adagio" with a
    cd called "Sanctus Ignis"
that I like a lot, so when I saw that "Adagio" had another cd called
    "Romantic Serenades" I bought it.
Turns out the second "Adagio" is a Brazilian gothy/dark/cookiemonster
    band. I don't like it.

Not that there's anything wrong with cookie monster vocals if you like
    them. :)

C is for Cookie, that's good enough for me,
    Trevor

    Quickly, a few things:

Vigilante Fates Warning Guy says: In the latest issue of PROGRESSION magazine, the
vocalist spotlight column (VOX) features an intriguing and colorful analysis of our
beloved RAY ALDER. Check it out, cats. (the website is as follows:
    http://www.progressionmagazine.com/)

Speaking of Ray Alder, I would still highly recommend the 2nd ENGINE CD (Superholic)
from 2002 as a fine, dandy and exquisite addition to your collection of bone-crushing,
melodic and contemporary rock music. Granted, the debut ENGINE CD is marginally better,
but don't let this one slip past your radar like one of Dark Helmet's Strawberry Jam
    starships...

Speaking of Ray Alder speaking of Fates Warning and Dream Theater, if I'm not mistaken,
the OSI (Office of Strategic Influence... of what influence, from what office and
utilizing what exact strategem, I am not sure) CD is due out in a month, methinks. All
I can say is: Matheos, Moore, Portnoy, Malone and a guest appearance (probably NOT on
flugal horn) by Porcupine Tree's Steve Wilson. Should be a happenin' CD folks... 'Nuff
    said.

Lastly, this just in from the Allroundniceguy: Work has commenced OFFICIALLY on the 3rd
CD from yours truly... updates to arrive as time permits, and my brain remains
    cognitive, and functional. Thanks! Peace...
