I want to comment on some discs I've gotten lately.
Spock's Beard - Feel Euphoria
This cd is great!!!!! The sound is a bit different, as expected, but the musical departure from Spock's with Neal is not incredibly drastic. At times I even think I'm listening to Neal singing, because NDV reminds me a lot of him when he's singing the lower notes. The music sounds livelier this time around, and it's a bit more experimental. I think it's proggier than Snow. I like all of the songs, but I think my favorites are East of Eden, West of Memphis and Ghosts of Autumn. And I also really love Moth of Many Flames!!! Great chorus. The guys didn't seem like they were trying to imitate Neal's writing in order to maintain SB's trademark sound, except on the song A Guy Named Sid, which to me sounds like an attempt by NDV to do what Neal used to do. I don't know why I say this, but it just sounds to me like that. Is it just me, or does the story about Sid seem like there is no story at all? I think the lyrics keep describing how the story is without really saying !

Rob Rock - Eyes of Eternity
Another great cd. For those of you who've never heard of Rob Rock, he's an incredible singer, with an amazing range and a powerful voice. He used to sing with Impelliteri, and this is his second solo album. Once again, the music is in the power metal vein, with excellent melodies and great musicianship. All of the music was co-written by Rob Rock and Roy Z. I think this album is better than his previous one Rage of Creation (which was quite good as well).
Steve Morse - Sects, Dregs, and Rock and Roll (DVD)
Oh........my.........God!!!! What an amazing DVD!!!!! This cd has 2 full concerts: a Dixie Dregs concert from 2001 and a Steve Morse (not the Steve Morse Band) concert from 1992 in which he plays about 3 songs on his own and the rest with Dave LaRue, except for 2 of them where they're joined by T Lavitz. This DVD also contains a full interview with Steve, as well as a video clip, a solo with Deep Purple, and other stuff. The playing is simply incredible throughout. The sound on the Dregs concert is not the best, since the keyboards and the guitar are a bit low on the mix, but it's not that bad. At least I can hear clearly everything that Dave LaRue does :-) The song selection is as good as it gets, and everybody plays their asses off!!!! The performances are simply jaw dropping. The Steve Morse gig has better sound quality, and the performances are once again jaw dropping. This DVD has confirmed to me that Steve Morse is hands down my favorite guitar player, and th!
at Steve Morse and Dave LaRue are my favorite musician combination ever. I think these two complement each other perfectly. It seems as if they were just made to play together. I think they're just a half step ahead of Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten in my favorite musician combinations list. Something that I found to be funny was that Steve Morse, during his presentation of the band in the Dixie Dregs concert, talks to the audience while continuing to play his guitar, but with the volume turned completely down!!! He also does it during the interview, where he just plays stuff (with no volume) while answering questions!!!! Is there just too much music inside of him that he needs to have a constant stream of it flowing from him, so that he won't risk musical explosion resulting from overload?

Excellent review Alexis. I personally like that "Feel Euphoria" is a bit
more 'heavy' than previous Spocks works and that is a plus.
The vocals continue to be great with NDV. Sucks that Neal is gone, but the
band is progressing right along.

It should be "The Guy Who Wrote 3 Average Generic Prog Metal Songs".
Anyway in the liner notes he thanks "Carol Dellinger(coldfire)".
Is that the Coldfire on this list? If so, please tell us he was joking.

Got the live show from the House of Blues, I cannot believe how incredible it sounds. VERY NICE. WoW. Now if we could just get an official boot from the 6 Degrees tour we would have something wild. LIstening to this, really does give you an idea how much talent goes into a live show, as this does have a soundboard-ish feel, just nicely touched up. This is a good hold over till the next release comes out.
