actually, he's quoted as feeling called to "do something else", as taken
from his own statement on radiant records' site. it's not that he feels
that he can't do music anymore, just that the "Spock's" period in his life
is now over.
http://www.radiantrecords.com/news.htm
also, for some more info, straight from neal's mouth, check these other
links out. you'll find more out this way than by being presumptuous and
sarcastic because of a man's beliefs & faith. to do so almost cheapens
what he's given us this far, since they were his beliefs then as well.
according to him, a lot of those songs which we love so much were inspired
in one way or another by the very thing you just chose to belittle, mike.
whether you agree with him or not isn't the point.

Actually, he's directly quoted on that link as:
"The the Lord said 'here's what I want you to do, finish this album (SNOW),
QUIT THE BAND and await further instructions.'"
So it's not so much Neal's feelings that the time for Spock's is over, it's
laid out in black and white. Though he's very jokey about it, Mike's point
is that Spock's was a much more significant thing than Transatlantic.
As for being presumptuous and cheapening Neal's work... I don't think you
have to agree with the sentiment behind a song's lyrics to enjoy the song.
You say whether Mike agrees with the beliefs or not isn't the point, and
that's exactly right. They're his own beliefs, and they don't affect anyone
else. Mike's view on the beliefs doesn't alter the music or its value at
all.

Mike don't laugh about things like that ...
You might just get it ;)
/*********/
i personally heard from petrucci who had dinner at my house the other night
that the new DT album will be 3 discs, each containing a 78 minute song. One
disc will be purely instrumental, containing riffs in, quote, "the most
random time signatures possible".... he hinted at 67/64 and 27/16.
I hope that satisfies all your curiosities, and boy is my bs-o-meter off the

Elektra in just 2 days? Way to go DT!!
