Uh...if I might make a point on behalf of the aforementioned ladies on the
list...PMS is not mythical (and I've never heard of anyone who gets a sore
pussy from PMS)...and if you feel you need to exclude some people on a list
from a joke out of respect, you shouldn't post it to the list in the first
    place.

Though I've officially been respectfully excluded, no, it wasn't funny.

    Hey guys,
to break up the last few posts of nonsense and get us all back to the reason we're on this list, I got a few suggestions. Foremost, anyone grab Labrie's newest project Frameshift? I'm thinking of ordering it and was wondering if anyone got a hold of it yet and what their impressions were...

Second, does James write his own vocal melodies and such to DT songs (or more accurately, does/has he always, sometimes or never...)? My friend recently asked me that and I was stumped. In other words, if James doesnt write that much lyrics anymore and the vocal melodies are essentially given to him, then what does he actually do? I hope he writes some of his own...

Umm Partha...I think you're trying to read too much into it. Yes, the song
is abooot his step-dad (and directed at him. I think it's pretty obvious
because in MP's eyes, he was a jerk or in some way or other treated MP in a
terrible way (I'd imagine over a long period of time) so that MP is very
bitter towards him. Him being crooked could be in reference to the way he
treats MP as opposed to his real kids (perhaps MP's sister Sam, who is
really his half-sister - they share the same mother - not sure if MP has any
stepbrothers or sisters), even though his step-dad claimed to treat him
equally, as evident by the lines:

You pretended I was your own
And (I) even believed that you loved me
But (you) were always threatened by some
Invisible blood line that only you could see

    Make more sense?

    Scott

I do think it is a pretty silly line. It does make me cringe a little. It
reminds me of that line in Lie "I wanna talk about lifelong mistakes, you
can tell your stepfather I said so."

The song's not too bad, the rhythm reminds me of Bad Seed from Reload (yes,
I own it, I admit it!).

I believe he writes most of the vocal melodies. I was watching a 7
minute vidclip that i pulled off the net. it was shot by portnoy for the
italian fanclub, i believe. it was at beartracks studio, & they were
working on SFAM. mp went around to each bandmember & did a little blurb
with each. while talking to james, james mentioned that he was "putting
the vocal melodies together & getting them down", as he would be recording
his tracks in a few days. this leads me to believe that he's the one
actually coming up with most of the vocal melodies. anyone else have any
    other input on this??

YOU'RE KIDDING! Thanks guys. I'll head down today. Damn JB in Preston STILL don't have it. How can that be??? They must have had a few enquiries because when I asked for the new Dream Theater cd last week he said "Yeah, Train of Thought, due in on Tuesday". He didn't say which Tuesday though... I assume 'Metal Mayhem' is what used to be called 'Metal for Melbourne' on Flinders St. Been many years since I visited that place, (when Ozzmosis came out) back when I had long hair. Now my back hair is longer than that on my head :-)

    George.

Hey George. Sorry, should have seen from your email address you were in Melbourne. I have no idea where Metal Mayhem is, I live in Sydney :P But I do know they received ToT in a shipment recently. Good luck!

    --part1_180.2333318f.2cfbe31b_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

It was mentioned on DTFAQ.com that James LaBrie didn't sing onstage due to diffrent reasons

-(He also sang the beginning of "The Killing Hand" at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT in December of 1996, when James "...got caught up backstage". Mike has also done the first few lines of "Take the Time" at nearly every show on the FII tour.)

-(- Mike picked up lead vocal duties during the first verse of "Anna Lee" at the February 26th, 1998 show in Brussels Belgium. The verse was followed by "Where the f--- is James!?")

-(- In February 2000, when James left the stage under threat of arrest from the fire marshall, Mike sang most of The Spirit Carries On with the entire crowd singing along)

Can anybody elaborate in these reasons? Why was James caught up backstage? Why did he walk off stage? Why did James get threatened to be arrested?. If you know, email me or reply to this message :) [To see what I'm talking about, go here <A HREF="http://www.dtfaq.com/category/8#54">http://www.dtfaq.com/category/8#54> ]

This is the only one I can answer for sure. Apparently, the Palace in LA overfilled the venue and the fire marshall said that they had to end the show. MP wouldn't leave the stage, saying that they'd have to drag the band off. In retaliation, the fire marshall shut off the PA system, leaving only the amps onstage running, and when that happened, the audience finished singing the song. After the song was finished, the show ended.

At the BB King's show on January 19th, 2001, the same thing happened (funnily, with the same song). James was offstage getting his new in-ear monitors adjusted, and MP had to start singing the song. The funny part was that MP said "Oh man, not again!" after he started singing. :)
