    >Exactly. The good seats are 75 i think (canadian $). Not to mention it
    >sounds like a pure "look how fast I can play" fest, which is cool but not
    >exactly entertaining.

Yeah, they are friggin expensive, but I think this would be a good show to
see. For me, the visual element of a concert is very important. On the last
G3 tour, I liked Satriani's music best out of the 3, but he was pretty
boring to watch. Petrucci wasn't much better, but Vai put on an awesome
show. The art of showmanship is lost on a lot of people, but not him. From
what I've heard, Yngwie's a pretty decent showman.

But apparently nobody thinks upstate NY is worthy of decent concerts, so
it's not really an issue for me. :-(

Oh, and let me vent once again about the idea of having this Hammer of the
Gods thing on a Wednesday. :-( :-( :-( Doesn't Portnoy realize that people
have work & school the next day?

    -Dan.

I'm going to see Project Object next weekend in Hoboken.. If you're a Zappa
fan, you should check them out, since they play all Zappa music, and Ike
Willis, Don Preston, and Napoleon Murphy Brock are with the band.. I also
have tickets to see Primus, and Crimson (with Living Color opening!!)... I
also picked up tix for the Neal Morse show with Mike Portnoy next month...
They're going to play Morse's new album in it's entirety (it's great if you
haven't heard it), plus some Spocks Beard and Transatlantic stuff...

    Roy from Brooklyn

<snip> one of which I already have tix for (Devin Townsend / Symphony X). My
    >other choices are Primus, Arena or King Crimson. What would you guys
    choose?

    Vai
    >this time, and it's expensive... so nah.
Yah, too expensive, kinda blew out my concert budget this summer with
Tori Amos/Ben Folds, DT/QR/FW, Opeth/PTree and Cirque du Soleil....

I saw Les Claypool live and I have to say that I was rather
disappointed. I was expecting at least one Primus song during the
set, but he didn't do any, so that certainly was part of the problem.
But, even beyond that, it didn't have that much energy.
I'd say go see the band you like the best. I've seen King
Crimson and enjoyed their show, but if you're not a big fan then it may
not be your cup of tea -- they're more about the music and less about
stage presence. I'd be curious to see Arena, does anyone know if they
put on a good live show?

roy, i think i can speak for most of us here when i say we hate you. nothing
personal, but you're going to all those concerts and we're not.
it sucks being in the Midwest where we get the occasional cool band that
doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
case in point: aerosmith. first section of seats, $325in wisconsin and $425
in chicago. parking $25 or more. thet played for a little over an hour
(according to me friend who has more money than sense. experience, not priceless.
    maybe it's a non-prog thing.

The midwest has it good for concerts compared to many places. From the
    latest Metal Update:

FOREVER IS FORGOTTEN w/ FOUND DEAD HANGING
    10/04 Middleton, OH
    10/05 Des Moines, IA
    10/06 Kansas City, KS
NILE w/ KREATOR, VADER, AMON AMARTH & GOATWHORE
    10/15 Lawrence, KS
    10/16 Minneapolis, MN
    10/17 Sauget, IL
    10/18 Chicago, IL
    10/19 Cincinnati, OH
    10/20 Cleveland, OH
    PRIMUS
    11/06 Minneapolis, MN
    11/07 Chicago, IL
    11/08 Milwaukee, WI
    11/09 Detroit, MI
    11/11 Columbus, OH
    11/12 Cleveland, OH
SIX FEET UNDER w/ SKINLESS, BEHEMOTH & AS I LAY DYING
    11/03 Chicago, IL
    11/04 Milwaukee, WI
    11/05 St. Louis, MO
    11/06 Cedar Falls, IA
    11/07 Kansas City, MO
TYPE O NEGATIVE & CRADLE OF FILTH w/ MOONSPELL
    11/17 Columbus, OH
    11/18 Grand Rapids, MI
    11/20 Milwaukee, WI
    11/21 Cleveland, OH
    11/22 Chicago, IL
    11/24 Minneapolis, MN
    11/25 St. Louis, MO
    12/11 Des Moines, IA
    12/12 Detroit, MI

And this is only a small selection of metal tours, none of which would cost
you more than $30. You just need to do a little digging to find more. The
coasts may get the most, but, never fear, there's still some left over for
    the middle guys.

Highway robbery! (Whoever forked over that kind of money deserved what
    they got.)
