I went so far as recreate the click-track, on Finale... but I didn't have
the time or patience to get my (former) lazy-ass bandmates to learn/record
it before the deadline. You can have the clicktrack if you want it :-P

Not sure if he's on the list any more (and don't feel like checking the
subscriber list), but Brian Wherry did and it's freakin amazing. You
can download it at his site over at http://www.brianwherry.com/

Awesome! Gonna check it out right now... I wonder if this will spoil the actual song itself (as in, if it's really close to the original).

... hey!! How'd he get Matt Guillory of Mullmuzzler / Dali's Dilemma to play on this??? No fair! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ryan P Skadberg" <skadz@dreamt.org> To: "Multiple recipients of list" <ytsejam@torchsong.com> Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 6:33 PM Subject: Re: contest

I was hesitant to say that... but I guess it's worth mentioning :) One of two possibilities: The Brian version kicks super ass and DT creates a song in that vein and we're happy. Or the Brian version kicks ass and DT blows us all away putting Brian (no offense) to shame.... either way, we're left with good vibes :D

Wow. Cool. It's amazing how much influence DT have. The worst thing about the track is that it sounds exactly like a DT-copy prog metal band. Obviously given the nature of the track, that's no real criticism. :) If it wasn't for the contest, I'd say that he should concentrate on developing his sound, but it would be unfair in this case... I'd even like to hear his project when it's finished, and I usually avoid prog metal like the plague.

He's won the competition. If more than one person has produced a track of this quality, then I'm giving up on prog, as it's just too weird...

Well after a couple listens it hits me the way the Lie promo single did...not very well. Lie was a mistake at the time and I always thought if it had been Caught in a Web, things might have been different. The blatant Metallica sound is also a problem...mostly because it is somewhere between Load and TBA and not older Metallica. And no Jordan either. Boy this album has me nervous. This was like opening the first gift the night before Christmas and getting socks. Useful but not what I was hoping for.

    Oh well. Rob

It is a 3-track promo single: a shorter radio edit at 4:20 (insert marijuana or Mike Portnoy comment here), and then two longer versions at 7+ min. One of them is tagged as a radio version and one is tagged as the full album version, which made us wonder if the full version wasn't radio-safe. (!) Bob said he'd played the longer "radio" version; I'm time-checking it now off the show archive and it -does- time out at over 7 minutes.

BTW, if the streaming is too hi-quality for anyone's connection, there is an option for a 24 kilobit mono MP3 stream on the WREK-FM website, www.wrek.org. Just select "listen to archive" and then you'll want the 10:30-11pm archive segment from last Friday night. "As I Am" should be right in the middle, at around 10:45 pm. I also wrapped up the show, after 2am, with LTE's "Acid Rain." :)

OK so I forgot to post the times that were given in the "Your Majesty" fanzine so here it goes:

TRAIN OF THOUGHT runs at around 68mins

with the following times for each song: As I Am 7:30 This Dying Soul 11:30 Endless Sacrifice 11:30 Honor Thy Father 10:00 Vacant (is this a song about a toilet ?) 3:00 Stream Of Consciousness 11:00 In The Name Of God 13:50

Those times DO NOT look likke a classical metal album, except for maybe a classical metal album written by DT ;) OMG I can't wait for 11/11 ! Let's hope it will shadow Xmas ;)

Is that on purpose perhaps that all the songs are either on the minute or on the :30 mark?
