Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that, Coldie. Now that I've
confessed to being Germ Queen, a couple of other
people have pointed fingers my way too :) I hope that

Oh, and i just wanted to congratulate Phil Carter on a
great review of the event. That was especially a very
touching story about the Nightwish fan. Thanks for
    sharing!

Man, if I wasn't such a lazy ass, this would be
totally hot. For anyone who's participated in any of
the fantasy sports leagues, how time-consuming is it?
I mean I'm sure you can allow it to be VERY
time-consuming, but just generally, do you have to
devote a lot of time to it? I'm going to be very busy
    this fall...

Actually I have a hard time deciding which Andromeda album I like best :)
For the sake of simplicity I always refer to the first as 'the DT one' and
the second as 'the PoS one'. I love that vocal chorus for "Extension Of The
Wish", very un-progmetal-like but meshes very well with the whole song. And
yes, the Thomas Reinholdz (sp?) the guitar player is great. I heard that he
has another project, a death metal band called NoExist. Anybody heard this
    one?

LeJon plays for ACT in their latest album, 'Last Epic'. I picked up ACT a
bit late, about year ago (their first album was released in 1999). The
movie-poster style CD cover did not really interest me .. but hey, it had a
'nice price' sticker on it, buried somewhere in the aisles of FNAC
Barcelona. What struck me first was the freshness of their music, very easy
on the ears yet certainly not your typical pop tune. They are definitely
talented musicians, yet they obviously don't take the whole music thing too
seriously, having fun at every corner. Herman Saming's voice is a
love-it-or-hate-it affair, but I believe it fits the music very well. And
    the humorous lyrics .....

    Emily (Ms. Amnesia) (2:00)
Music by: Jerry Sahlin. Lyrics by: Tomas Erlandsson, Ola Andersson & Jerry
    Sahlin

Emily, her memory, is not what it ought to be.
Out she goes, without her clothes,
she thought that she was dressed.

    Doc:
    - Not again, Emily, you need help, can't you see??
Take these pills and improve your memory.

She forgot, what she just thought.
    - Am I at home or not?
Her latest move, she can't recall,
her brain is way to small.

    Doc:
    - Not again, Emily, you need help, can't you see??
Take these pills and improve your memory.

Oh, these two bands and a bunch of excellent others are from Sweden.
If people were ever to record a statistic called "Ratio of Talented Musician
per Capita" for a country, Sweden would certainly be nominated for at least
    Top 3.

    cheers,

    So.

Did any of you jokers catch the Guitarevolution tour with Marty Friedman,
Chris Poland and Alex Skolnick? No? Why not?

I caught them last night at Slim's in San Francisco. There was what seemed
to be a whopping 150 people there, which is kinda sad. Those of you know
know the venue: if you were to pack everyone there tightly together they'd
probably occupy about 1/4 of the place. Not a big crowd. But that's all
the better for me! Because then it's easy get right up in front of the
stage, or wander around with ease, or whatever.

Alex Skolnick Trio opened the show. They played six tunes from the album,
which consists of jazz interpretations of old hard rock tunes (Ozzy,
Aerosmith, Scorpions, Kiss, Sabbath, Deep Purple), and they were
absolutely incredible. The guys he had playing with him were excellent as
well. It was nice to see that at least a few people knew to clap after
solos and not just after the songs ended. Felt like the ol' music school
    days. Ah, good times...

Chris Poland was next. He had a pretty impressive effects rack and a nice
CAE switching system. He might as well have been Alex Lifeson, if only
Alex Lifeson could play that well. They sounded great, but I didn't know
any of the material. Chris is a monster guitar player and his technique is
very strange to me. I noticed he used a lot of economy picking, which is
cool, but his left hand is what boggled me. He keeps his index finger
extended stiffly almost all the time and doesn't use it a lot. Almost
everything is played used the other three fingers. Very strange, and very
impressive nonetheless. The guy he had playing bass, Robby Pagliari,
TOTALLY blew me away. Oh my god. I had never heard of this guy before, and
he tore it up on his beautiful made six-string fretless bass. I think it
said "Moses" on the headstock. Absolutely phenomenal player. I ran into
him outside on my way home and commended his performance. He was very
    nice.

Finally, Marty Friedman took the stage. With him was Ron Jarzombek from
Watchtower and Spastic Ink. Apparently Marty has a new album out called
"Music for Speeding" or something. I didn't much care for the tunes, and I
was basically bored with their set, finding myself amused by his rockstar
poses and tall shoes. The bassplayer, whatever his name is, had some
interesting poses as well. I decided to split during the encore out of
    boredom.

I thought Alex Skolnick Trio took the cake, I bought his CD and had him
sign it, since he spent most of the evening hanging out chatting with
fans by the vendor stand. Very nice guy.

I saw a couple of familiar faces, far fewer than I should have. That guy I
met at a party 5 years ago who claimed he was a better guitar player than
Eric Johnson (yeah right) and that older guy with the embarrassing
comb-over I keep seeing at all the shows, including ProgPower (does anyone
know who he is? He's everywhere!)

Pic available soon, assuming they didn't come out like crap, like most of
    my pics do.

    Rick Audet
    San Francisco

P.S. Does anyone read this list anymore? Does anyone care? OK bye!

How was Jarzombek? He's one of my favorite guitarists out there, I don't
know others who write music like he does...
I'll have to check out some AST and some Chris Poland, can't say I've heard
    of them.
