    I happen to disagree with all of you. For one thing, this is a great idea. I
    mean, I'm not rich but I would pay all that money to meet Dream Theater. Sure,
    they usually do it anyway (Well, not here in Dallas, Texas) but for those of
    us who they don't do it for it is a big treat.

    Dream Theater has always been loyal to its fans and listened to what they had
    to say. And MP obviously felt the same way everyone else did. They have
    always been the Fans' Band, meaning that they do everything for the fans and not
    for the money. He said himself they weren't getting money, as is the case with
    promotional packages like this.

    I say get off their back. They are just as discomforted by the idea of
    "selling out" (as you all would say) and it wasn't their idea. You have no idea what
    goes on inside the heads of promoters. They are very greedy people
    (Promoters, not the band). Let the Promoters do what they want and let Dream Theater
    entertain us (as is their only concern with this concert, not making a ton of
    money). They want to show us a great time and if the money made with packages
    will give a greater show (lights, effects, ect.) then let them do it. The better
    the show, the more reason that Dream Theater is the greatest show of all time.

    I wonder what the prices for tickets in rows 31+ are going to be. Two or the
    last three DT concerts I've been to, I've been in the 5th row because I
    bought tickets right when they went on sale. It's nice being that close, but
    it ain't worth $100 a piece, even considering the fact that it includes an
    ugly $40 t-shirt. (let's be honest folks, most of the DT shirts are stupid
    looking, including the 6DOIT baseball jersey I bought)

    Meet-n-Greet ain't worth $250 either.

    Wow, what a bunch of whining we have on here lately. Last I noticed DT
    doesn't own any of you a damn thing.

    They're playing some shows. There is a tiered pricing model for premium
    seats, with plenty of seats left over (beyond row 30) for "normal"
    prices. You can choose to pay at any of the price levels you want - or
    not.

    So what exactly is the problem? You want to have your cake (good seats)
    and eat it too (low price)?

    Whether DT is making any extra $$ on this is irrelevant. They (and
    their management and anyone else involved in putting on the tour) are
    entitled to charge whatever the hell they want, and you have the power
    to pay or not. Vote with your wallet.

    Further info on the costly pre-sale ticket packages, for those of you
    bashers (as posted by "Vapor Trails" on MP's website):

    I've been one of the most vocal people against this policy since I first
    heard about it last night and now I have more facts.

    I sent an e-mail directly to MP earlier today, not expecting any response
    other than the typical canned response and got something entirely different
    back.

    This evening Frank Solomon, Dream Theater's manager sent me back an e-mail
    requesting contact info because MP had forwarded my e-mail to him and was
    concerned. I just now got off the phone with Mr. Solomon and will relay some
    pertenant facts about the conversation.

    #1. There are only 20 Platinum packages per show! 4 seats in each of the
    first 5 rows. The rest of the seats in the front 5 rows ARE in the general
    ticket pool!

    IMO this was probably their biggest mistake, NOT relaying this information
    to us earlier. Had I known it was only 20 tickets per show in the front
    area, I would have not getten NEARLY as upset as I was this morning.

    #2. Everything that is going on is with the fans in mind. I believe this now
    more than ever after this telephone call. Mr. Solomon was very candid during
    our conversation and I do believe that he along with the band had the best
    of intentions when trying to figure out a way to pay for the new visual
    show. Plus, this gives people who normally wouldnt have a chance to get into
    a meet and greet the perfect opprotunity.

    #3. According to Mr. Solomon there are roughly 100 of the gold and bronze
    packages available to each show. So there are still LOTS of great seats in
    the general ticket pool available to the rest of us.

    I want to applaud MP for taking the time to forward this letter to Mr.
    Solomon and thank Mr. Solomon for taking the time to call me and listen to
    me gripe for a few minutes before explaining the whole situation.

    I did tell him that they should have posted the fact that Platinum packages
    are limited to 20 per show... that would have sofened the blow CONSIDERABLY
    had we known this in advance.

    I guess they're flogging off the meet & greet more than the seats, then.

    It's certainly not so bad now that it's revealed that it's only a small
    portion of the good seating going. Of course the band and promoters can
    charge what they want for the seats, but going from first come, first serve,
    best seats to fattest wallet, best seats is always going to piss people off.
    So I'm glad that the initial impressions were mistaken.

    Of course, having said that, if DT came to Australia, I'd lay down $250 US
    for a back row ticket, no second thoughts :P

    Obviously they're entitled to do whatever they want. Thanks for that grand

    I hardly think it's whining to call "bullshit" on a money grab, no matter
    where the money is going. A light show? Whoopee, it ain't exactly the
    Salvation Army. Color me unimpressed. I'd rather see 'em use some energy
    on remembering how to write decent songs than cooking up schemes to play
    for a cheesy stage show (face it, as someone said in reference to their
    t-shirts already, everything DT does outside of the music is pure swiss).

    FWIW, the lighting and other visual aspects of the show were great.
    It's great to see the band do well enough that they can even think about
    these things.

    Of course it's flippant. It's Brian. But it has very little to do with
    whether it's intentional or not; they may not CHOOSE to write poor songs
    in exchange for a better light show, but I think what Brian's really
    saying is that it doesn't matter how good the show is if the music sucks.
