Savatage is the only one I can reply to here. I really like them.
They're a very diverse band, in the sense that DT is diverse, being very
heavy at times, and then very melodic and playing a number of ballads as
well. I have 4 of their albums, "Streets, a Rock Opera," "Hall of the
Mountain King,", their latest "Edge of Thorns," and a best-of type album.
I like all of these very much. The last album has a new singer, and
their original guitarist died late last year in an automobile accident.
The latest rumor is that Alex Skolnik is going to replace him.
Hopefully, if true, he'll be able to fill in the songwriting hole that
Chris' death created. In any case, I would highly recommend giving them
a listen.

Other mailing lists that I am on, they have nothing in common
with DT, are KISS and Def Leppard.
Also, when you reply to a large post with a couple of lines
can you trim down the original article? There is nothing more
annoying than reading the same huge article over and over and over
again.

Okay, about whether DOE is soundboard or audience, I think it's
definitely soundboard, and the reason it's so well produced is this:
they planned on releasing it.
Remember last summer when "A Change of Seasons" (Live) was scheduled to
be released on August 17? I think DOE is the concert they were planning
to use for that. The release was probably cancelled because they didn't
think the performance was good enough.
Anyway, that's what I think about the thing...

I have some kinda rare DT stuff on tape and was wondering if anyone
knows much about them, or could they find out.
Here goes...
1. On the tape of Wanted Dead or Alive..
a) Who is singing? Chris Collins?
b) Who(m) is making the Beavis and Butthead type comments in the back?
2. On O Holy Night...
a) Charlie Dominici ( I'm pretty sure ) sings most of it but who
does the second (3rd?) verse. I don't think that it is John P.
Maybe its Kevin...
3. Who sings Golden Slumbers? Chris Collins?
Who else likes the song Don't Look Past Me? I really like it. I like the
version that Chris Cintron does. I also like the studio version of
Change of Season with him singing.
Is it just me or is John Arch the worst singer in the world? I've never heard
him with Fates Warning but from the few songs on the DT singer audition tapes,
he sounds like a real joke. It sounds like he was trying to be awful on
purpose.
The Terry Brown remixs of Status Seeker and Afterlife sound incredible!
They sound like a different band!! I hope that he is doing the next album.
I can't wait for some new DT!!!!!!!
Well that enough for now....
See ya all!

A trilogy of sorts...hmm, Metropolis part 2, maybe? I don't know, it
hadn't occurred to me until a few weeks ago that there might be more
than 2 parts...

yeah please do!!!..... still don`t know if the guys based it on that film
though....
anyway those interested in the Galactic Cowboys, Metal CD had this to say...
Take a 4 way collision, of Metallica, Dream Theater, Faith No More and The
Beatles and plug into the National Grid. Confused?. You should be... The
Galactic Cowboys manage to pack more creativity into one song than many
bands manage in a career.... It then went to talk about specific songs...
I think Space In Your Face is awesome, though the first is good too...
I`m a bit miffed they got dropped by Geffen since I`ve been a fan since I
heard the pre-release tapoe of the first album about 3 years ago...

What is this 'best-of' album that you talk about?.. as far as I`m aware their
albums are as follows "Sirens", "The Dungeons Are Calling", "Power Of The Night""Fight For The Rock", "Hall Of The Mountain King", "Gutter Ballet", "Streets:
A Rock Opera" and "Edge Of Thorns" .... the best being IMHO Streets, Gutter
Ballet and Hall Of The Mountain King.... the last one has a new singer and
although it`s a good album, it kinda lacks something the previous three had..
The Dungeons Are Calling is by far the worst, it`s pretty awful...
They are kinda of progressive power metal, a pretty unique sound, and have
done really cool mellow stuff.... I`d second the recommendation....
Well I posted the original list of prog metal that I liked that contained
Saviour Machine and Sacred Warrior.... er... I dunno how to describe
Saviour Machine since their music is very varied.. the only have one
self-titled CD, released about 6 or 7 months ago on Intense Records..
The first song "Carnival Of Souls" sounds like a mix of Pink Floyd without
the pomp, Dream Theater without the flashy solos, Marillion and U2 around the
unforgettable fire era... Personally I like the slower songs that have
loads of tension, and really build dynamically... "A World Alone" is kinda
like DT`s "To Live Forever" except much better... The CD has a running time
of 70 minutes.... I really like the use of piano and mellow orchestration..
The guitar doesn`t play a dominate a role as say in Dream Theater or
the heavier progressive bands.. the guy is a really good singer too....
I suppose I should mention in case it makes a difference, that they are a
Christian band.. the lyrics are based on the guys spiritual struggles and
some a based on very disturbing imagery of the beast from the book of
revelation.... basically *I* think it`s excellent....
Sacred Warrior (again Christian band) are in the Queensryche/Fates Warning/
Crimson Glory vein.... well their first album "Rebellion" is basically a
hard rock effort, while their second "Master`s Command" is like Iron Maiden
in places.... the third "Wicked Generation" is queensryche style progressive
rock, with songs like "Standing Free" sounding like a mix of "The Lady Wore
Black" and "Eyes Of A Stranger"... a rather strange of dynamics on this
album, but it`s very good.... their last album "Obsessions" has a cleaner
sound and is my favourite, probably went in a similar direction as Queensryche
did when they went from "Operation Mindcrime" to "Empire"... the songs are
more structured and sort of catchy... "Turning Back" and "Madman" make good
use of acoustic guitar and really build towards a climax....
Well.. that`s it.. I`m outta here.....
Clive.
