Yeah... It was Christmas eve... I don't know what year, and James
and John P were on some auction that a TV channel was doing for
charity... and they did Silent Man and O Holy Night...
I had completely forgot about it, until I statred to reviese my boot

That thought might just be pushing it a bit too far. If DT changes, it's not necessarily for fame and money. Some people's musical tastes do change with time.. Me for example, used to listen to nothing but Metallica and Megadeth, now I'm more oriented towards Industrial music, DT is one of the few non-industrial bands I cling on to. <Refusing to classify them, I've always thought they had a hint of classical to them, too.> Besides, even if they do change their style, that doesn't mean they're gonna suck! I'd had I&W for a few months before I got a copy of WDADU.. and when I got it, I was afraid to play it.. Didn't know if I'd like it or not. And though in my opinion, the two albums are nowhere near alike, I still love them both, they are the 2 most played CDs in my collection. I haven't heard anything off the new album yet, so I *might* be jumping the gun. I'll give DT credit, one of the main things I like about them is their diversity and complexity, and I hope they don't lose it, but even if they do lose it to become something else, they can still kick ass like they do now.. I suppose it just depends on how diverse *your* musical tastes are.

Jeez! I go on vacation for a week and I find Dream Theater has lost their keyboard player. That's a shame. I personally think he was the most talented out of all of the guys in DT. I think the hypothesis that a lot of people on this list have come up with is most likely correct, though -- DT wanted to go with a more heavy, Pantera-like vibe and that just wasn't for Kevin. I wish they would have stuck to the I&W sound (much more original), but I'll definitely give the new record a try.
Jens playing with DT ought to be interesting. I know he can rip like a big man, but he doesn't exactly fit with what I&W is all about. No knock on you, Jens -- you're a monster. If DT is still auditioning other keyboardists, why don't they check out (here we go again) Shawn Lane? Talk about a monster keyboardist! Then they'd also have two guitar players live as well . . .
Oh yeah, I know it's redundant, but it must be said again:
DON'T SEND JENS ANY MAIL!
If you do this, his mailbox will overflow and he'll probably get sick of dealing with the ton of messages he gets every time he posts. We're lucky enough to have a good resource on the list -- let's not fuck it up.

Actually, I believe John Myung was also mentioned (perhaps even in the FAQ) to be spiritual (not read Christian). I don't think that Kevin really wanted religious lyrics in his music, but rather music that contained more positive overtones (Only a Matter of Time, Surrounded, Wait for Sleep, Surrounded, and even Another Day although it was written by John Pettrucci). For reasons I can't really explain, I don't think that Kevin really likes to play "balls 'n' chunk." In fact, I'm fairly certain that I would like Dream Theater to go in more of the direction that Kevin wanted it to go, because the influences of so many musical desires (Mike Portnoy's heavy metal drumming, Kevin's mellow (by comparison) keyboard parts, Pettrucci's ability to play both so well, and Myung's ability to set down a good beat for either) produced the great variety on I&W. True, Awake may have the simpliest, the most complex, and the heaviest and lightest material ever, but it was their ability to put it all within the same song that I really enjoyed. I hope they can continue to do this wonderful thing!
