Hi there! My gf was watching some talk show, Montel or something, and
the were talking about stalkers and stuff. The said that the term
"erotomania" had something to do with stalking people.

Just thought I'd fill ya in.

Hi all! I would like to let everyone know that I have an awesome new
video boot from the current DT tour. It is from the Pittsburg show.
It is a copy right from the master tape (2nd gen , I guess you call it).
The picture is excellent, the best I have ever seen on a video boot.
The audio is also very good but not 100% consistent. Once in a while
(about 2 or 3 times) it sounds like the guy is hitting some sort of
"high" or "low" tone control button or something and the sound changes
for a few seconds but no big deal. It includes the standard set list plus
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun and Innocence Faded.

I also have a very good audience audio tape from the New Haven show and
I should be getting one from the Toronto show soon too.

Please mail me if you would be interested in setting up some kinda trade.

    Thanks!

Now that we're on the subject of Petrucci, I would just like to add
some things. I've been playing guitar for 8 years or so, and growing
up i've had many different influences on my playing. Everything from
the "power chord" bands like Metallica and Megadeth to blues
guitarists like SRV and Gary Moore....But ever since I first heard
John Petrucci play (if i can call it that!) the guitar, I've been
convinced that he is hands down the greatest guitarist in the world.
The man is unstoppable. While the fact that he can SHRED is totally
amazing, he is also one of the most DIVERSE guitarists I've EVER
heard. The man can play any style of music. I think this is
very evident listening to all of his work. Recently, I was able
to see DT on tour in Providence and New Haven....his performance
was mind-boggling. and hey, he was a nice guy afterwards too!
What more can i say....he's the greatest..from every aspect.

In response to Paul's post about unauthorized bootlegs cutting in on a
bands profit, etc., I have to say that I totally disagree in this case. In some cases with bootlegs that
may be true. For example, I believe that bootleg t-shirts at concerts do
severely hurt a bands take, as people that buy bootleg t-shirts, which are
cheaper, usually _don't_ also buy a real shirt; in addition, bands make a
good deal of their income on tour from shirts. HOWEVER, in the case of
live bootlegs, the people that buy the bootlegs, especially with a band
like DT, with fanatical fans, would buy them IN ADDITION to officially
released live albums. In this way, the band isn't losing a dime! If
anything, I would think a band like DT would appreciate it; boots are a
way fortheir fans to become even more excited and interested about them,
and might keep fans talking about them during down times between albums,
etc. Let's face it, a fan who has several boots (many of which have
similar set lists) would kill to have an official live album, which would
have better sound quality, packaging, etc. I doubt highly that the many
boots around hurt the sales of Live at the Marquee (which isn't even
released in the States!) or Live in Tokyo (which is of marginally better
quality then a bootleg vid!). So, until East/West decides to released
DT's equivalent of Live Shit and make some money off of us, we diehard fans
will keep buying and trading those boots! (My $0.02, of course)

Keep pounding away at that Erotomania transcription (I think I will for
    years!). Later!
    Dario

    Re: DT @ LA Dec 9, 94

I finally got the chance to see DT live! It's been a long time since
a band's live performance has lived up to my expectations, I must say. I was
very happy to hear "Erotomania" performed live, and their renditon of "The
Silent Man" was as perfect as the recorded version.

My only gripe: how come John Myung didn't get a chance to play bass
solo? Even though people may have hyped him too much as being "all over the
place" live, he's more than a competent musician for such a demanding band.

Also, during "The Silent Man" many people started walking around and
talking. This really ruined the overall atmosphere, since they were
"unplugged" and the volume is low enough already.

The only encore they played was "Metropolis, Part I". I was hoping
maybe they come back again and play "Under a Glass Moon" or "Learning to Live"
but the house light went up instead. Mike Portnoy threw the plastic skins of
his bass drums to the audience, which was pretty cool.

I was at Title Wave the other night, and as I was walking out, I decided to
see how much DT stuff they had. So I flipped through the CD's, and was surprised they
had about 4 copies of Awake and 2 of I&W. Then, way in the back, I actually
saw a copy of WDADU! I couldn't believe it! This was the store that I
asked about when the new album was going to come out, and they said "Dream Who?"
I was really pretty excited about it. I guess they must be gaining popularity
    :)

Personally, I think there is a big difference between the 'netters and the outfits that actally manufacture, package, and market concert recordings. Us netters are doing it 'cause we love DT and are into in for the music. These commercial bootleggers aren't doing it for the music. With even the wholesale prices they charge to the stores that sell them, they're still making a very comfortable margin. As JP and JLB are about this subject, I, too, would be upset about someone taking my music and selling it.

    Dec. 9th 1994 -

This day will live in infamy. I was there... the last show of the DT/FW fall tour of the US.

Fates Warning opened with Down to the Wire. I must say, they have an evil, powerful sound live. Nothing compared to their albums. They have this incredibly dark aura. I was stunned. The show was performed with such passion and power that even without the fancy light setup they were mind blowing.

They cycled through songs mostly from Inside Out and Parallels, 11th Hour and Face the Fear was just incredible. When they finished playing, the crowd was still chanting "Fates, Fates, Fates".

Then Dream Theater came on, to say the least, if you didn't catch them with their FULL lighting set-up, you only saw half the show... the lighting was incredible with it's mosaic patterns and Awake backdrop.

The new jam and the new intro before The Mirror knocked me off my feet. Voices was immensely powerful, Lifting Shadows of a Dream was incredible, last but not least, for the encore, Metropolis... simply incredible. Watching Portnoy live is a sight to be seen...

After the show was over... I met all the Ytsejammers there! It was cool! I got a few of them backstage too... plus my motley crew of 6 people backstage for the after-show party which was actually being held at the Cafe of the Palace.

    Greetings to Air_Dance and Don_Ivey!

We hung out with all the band members afterwards and chatted for a long time. I got all my backstage passes signed by DT and my ticket stub and my T-Shirt.

The first guy I ran into upstairs at the balcony was Derek. I introduced myself since I didn't get to talk to him the night before at Santa Ana. His name is indeed Derek Sherinian... the mystery is solved.

The first guy I ran into downstairs at the Cafe was Petrucci, I commented on a great show. Since I asked most of the relevant questions the night before I just kinda hung out and talked with him for a few moments.

Then I ran into Portnoy, handed him his copy of the King's X show I booted. He was pleased to say the least and then we spoke a little about his drum sticks and how he was having trouble catching them when he threw them and we all laughed.

Then I went over the greet Myung and he was very cool... He seems to really like his fans. He commented on how he was really glad I could make it the second night in a row. I said, "I'll be there whenever you guys play out here! "

And of course while I was talking with Myung, LaBrie ran by us and said "Hey guys, be right back!" and proceeded to greet one of his friends. And then he came back and me and my group were all talking to him. One of my friends who was a singer in a band got some lessons from him. Said not to drink to much dairy products so you don't have mucus buildup. Hehe...

Then they proceeded to sign all our stuff and then we hung out for a little more and took off. The band members were much more relaxed then the night before since it was their last date of the tour.

Well, I also got to speak with all the members of Fates Warning during the intermission and they were real cool. Frank and Ray were hitting on all the chicks they saw at the club, which was kinda amusing. Joe was just hangin out and Matheos and Zonders were with their wives.

After the show I had Matheos sign a few of my things and spoke a few words with him and then he was off with the rest of the Fates crew.

Overall, two nights in a row of unParalleled music!

This extra paragraph is just for you YTSEJAM people. Portnoy knows about WDAJU and he said he will try to get me some stuff from this tour such as live The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun.

We spoke about bootlegs and we both agreed that if they allowed taping at ALL their shows, there would be no bootleg market of them, but he said he couldn't get the other guys to agree, so we may still have a chance to have unlimited taping sometime in the future.

He needs shows from the first two weeks of the Awake tour and also videos from the tour! If you have stuff, e-mail me!

    Hey!

Have any of you guys (and girls) heard of a comedian named Tom Rhodes? He's on Comedy Central a lot, and just about anywhere else you can think of. Anyway, I was watching SAST on CC and he was on stage. He was wearing a black T-shirt. On the front it had a red heart that happened to be on fire. Flames on the top. Also, it had something light-colored wrapped around the heart, like string. Or barbed-wire. Nowhere did it say anything about Dream Theater.

I had my Images and Words ablum immediately handy and compared the two. Definately NOT the same logo. Certain things about the shirt were just not the same. But the elements are unmistakeable: a heart on fire with some stringy-thing wrapped around it.

Anyone have any ideas about this? The logo is certainly not a universal symbol; I was under the impression that it was the creation of DT. Can't remember what it represented.

Oh well, maybe Rhodes is a fan, maybe not. Just thought I'd share this.

    Toodles! Glenn

Well, with finals coming up, and my procrastination reaching its peak, I decided to work on the bootleg discog for a while. This, as far as I know, has all tracks for all CDs that have been found. I am no longer including any tapes from the I&W tour on, becuase there are just too many of them. (Anyone want to start a tour date book???). Anyway, if you find any mistakes, please let me know. Also, there is a program that someone wrote for DOS which parses the discog into an easy to read format. It may be obtained from my home page in .ZIP format.

Anyway, here is the latest version of the discog. Over break, I will probably work on the format so it looks a little better and redo some of the formats...

A Fortune Pulled Under (USA) 1992, LP Need a mfr. and catalog # (it was submitted) 1 LP Recorded in Paris, France, October 1992 It is VERY likely that this is a regional title, possibly a boot taken from a radio show that has been reproduced by more than one bootleg manufacturer. This is because another boot, "Dimension Shift" is nearly identical to this one, and this one is next to impossible to find. ::11,6,3,8,1,14,12,9

Classics Live (1993 REBORN CLASSICS: RC1045) Recorded at Plus 5, Ft. Lauderdale, Sat. 5 1992 It has the same cover as LATM, with text 'Classics Live' instead of LATM ::14,8,12,9,3,10,39,4,11,27

Runes (USA) 1993, CD (The Camera's Ear Productions, #9103) 1 CD Recorded in Sacramento, CA, USA, no date given. Can be distinguished by lack of good bass in the first three tracks. ::13,14,17,15,12,1,11,9,16

Live and alive, vol I and II, 1993, 2CD (Germany) PR Records, Imtrat Medienvertrieb Music (IMM) 40.90205 & 206 It is a copy of "Consciously unreal", except for the 2 last tracks that are a guitar solo and a version of "Only a matter of time" with James La Brie on vocals (probably from the 1992 Us tour). Says it is USA 89 & 92, but it is not. Aud voices heard in Italian throughout show. Has cover art by Harald Heinrichs. ::13,1,14,12,3,10,39,4,9,11 ::15,16,13,6,17,8,49

Dream Out Loud, Italy (1993 KISS THE STONE: KTS243) Soundboard recording, radio broadcast, Buffalo, NY May 18, 1993 It has very good packaging, with a cool picture disc, and a nice band history. ::13,14,2,15,12,21,11,17,50,46,10,9,16

Lords Of Sound, Italy (1993 KISS THE STONE: KTS282/283) Soundboard recording, radio broadcast, Milwaukee, WI June 29, 1993 ::13,14,1,15,12,21,11 ::17,50,2,10,9,18,16

Dance of Eternity, 1994, CD (Luxumburgh) Rocks 92111 1 CD recorded in Buffalo, May 18, 1993. This is a radio broadcast. It is a little different of "Dream out loud" because it features the full version of "Learning to live" (cut off on DOL) and "Eve"! ::13,14,2,15,17,50,46,10,9,18,16.

Excellent (Nova/ GEMA NV-09) audience recording, New York, 7/22/93 Cheap packaging, portrait band photo on front cover. Sounds like it was recorded by a distant stereo microphone at the back of the hall. Slight stereo image, even quality, massive drum sound, possible DAT recording. Deep bass notes (bass pedals?) get distorted. Concert is not same as DoL but Galactic Cowboys are credited too. Date is possibly supported by JL "on road for 10 months","N.Y". No close audience sound. ::14,12,21,11,17,49?,46,2,10,9,16

Lost In The Sky, Italy (1994 Why Not? and Metal Crash: MECD2158/59) Soundboard recording, Milan, Italy, November 15, 1994 Other sources say FM mixed with aud DAT for Under Glass Moon & March Of The Tyrant Packaging is roughly half of the size of an album sleeve, sort of like old CD longboxes. CDs fit in middle of tri-fold case. Individual pictures of band, although Myung's picture is there for himself and Petrucci. ::13,33,6,14,15,12,3,21,11 ::17,53,10,8,9,18,16

"Milan 93", 1994, 2CD (Italy) 2CD Live Storm 52593 Radio recording, Milan, Italy, November 15, 1993. This is the same as "Lost in the sky" (most Live Storm are boots of boots)

I have to agree with that, especially in light of the fact that a huge number of people on this list have met - and some, it seems, built friendships with - the members of DT.
