I wouldn't say that it's based on it--but the first sample is from
    it.

There was a James Bond movie called "A View to a Kill" which I think
you're confusing with the novel/movie "A Room with a View" which is
about a young lady (Lucy Honeychurch) who grows up while on a trip to
Italy. The sample used in the song is said by George Emerson (Julian
Sands). It's near the end of the story where he's trying to convince
Lucy that Cecil (her fiance) is not right for her and that she should
    go off with him.

The movie may seem slow to many people, but I thought it was good. It
was a good adaptation of the book, the photography (and music) was good,
and the acting was well done. But if you don't like period dramas, this
might not be to your liking.

I dont remember if this was discussed, but what was the exact reason that DT decided not to go with Jordan Rudess after the LA Foundations Forum gig? Personal? Probably; because it sure isn't musical ability. (someone elaborate on this please)

I'm writing this because I just had the opportunity to see the Dixie Dregs last night, it was truly an incredible show. The band was in top form (esp. Rudess) and entranced everybody for about 1.5 hours. As for Rudess' performance, the man is simply amazing, a very technically sound player much like, if not better than Mooore, Johansen, etc.

Their tour might be coming to a close, but if at all possible, definitely go out and check these guys out. If anyone, esp. DT fans, are not into them already, start with their latest, Full Circle, and work back from there. You defeinitely won't be disappointed.

Hi all. I had posted this once before but I didn't see it in the ytsejam anywhere.

I'm the one that had the Pittsburg video. I just wanted to make a small correction. It DOES NOT have Innocense Faded on it. I must have been thinking about the new audio tape from New Have which does have IF. The Pitts vid does have The Ones Who Help To Set the Sun, though.

    Sorry about the confusion.

Well all I can say is UNBELIEVABLE!!! They shredded all night and had fun to boot.

First things first, It was a dark and stormy night...... no, wait, that's not it. Anyway, we got to the Galaxy Concert Theatre about 7:00. It was the grand opening for the place so everything was new (not yet improved, but give marketing a chance). It's a dinner theater so the seats were reserved and there were tables instead of rows of chairs like an auditorium. The tables in the front were long and rectangular and placed perpendicular to the stage. Just behind them were individual tables going up on terraced levels to the back of the hall. All in all, a really nice place. My seat was right in front of John Myung with my left arm resting on the stage!!! No, I'm not kidding. :-)

Fates Warning opened at 8:00 and we ended up eating during their set which kind of sucked because I think it's rude. It wasn't our fault though, the service was a little slow. During Fate's set Mike Portnoy from DT kept throwing cereal at them from backstage. Shredded Wheat, Rice Puffs, Capt. Crunch and Corn Flakes. Tonight is their last night on tour together so it was practical joke time. At one point SOMEONE (Mike Portnoy again) dressed in a sheet and ran around the stage like a ghost. Then he came out again and told a limerick about fates warning. At the end of their set all of DT popped up from behind the amps and threw big bunches of corn flakes everywhere. It was pretty funny.

Then it was time for Dream Theater. They opened with Pull Me Under and then went into 6:00. It was incredible! They didn't miss a note and Derek did a good job of keeping up. Fates got their revenge right from the start. The lead singer left a big pile of rubber dog doo in the middle of the stage and when James ran out to start singing Pull Me Under he kind of stuttered the first couple of words while looking at one of the roadies and pointing to the stuff with this look of "what the.......". Also at the same time the drummer from fates pulled all of mike's drum sticks out of his kit and threw them towards the crowd. A little while later during Mirror two other members of fates carried out a little model of stonehenge and started doing an Irish jig around it. But the best one was during Voices when they drove a little remote control car out and all around the stage with a Fates Warning postcard taped to the antenna. All of DT was cracking up (even john myung who is fairly reserved). After Voices they set up a mini unplugged and did Silent Man. There was some asshole behind me who wouldn't stop yelling throughout the song, oh well, that's show biz :-). For an encore they played Metropolis and everyone was going nuts!!!

All in all a great show, and I'm going to see them again tonight, I can't believe it!

Here is the set list I copied from the list on stage. (I have too much fun to take notes during the show)

Pull Me Under 6:00 Take The Time (w/Drum Solo) Caught In A Web Shadows Improv Jam Heavy (John Petrucci & Derek S. Solos) Mirror Lie Another Day Erotomania Voices Silent Man Metropolis

That's all for now, next episode on Monday if I survive.

Hey, Since it seems that Portnoy needs copies of the shows we have, perhaps we should try to get Light Fuse and Get Away with James on vocals from him. As far as I know, he's the only one with either of those two European shows on tape. I'm not sure if he'll go for it, but it's worth a try.

Just found this at a record show in Houston yesterday:

    Dream Theater "Majestic Harmonies" 1cd - Backstage/Why Not? Records # BKCD089

    Stockholm, Sweden 10/27/93

    Set List:

Metropolis Part 1 9:35 Mission Impossible 1:50 Afterlife 6:06 Under a Glass Moon 7:16 Wait for Sleep (incl. Keyboard Solo) 3:12 Surrounded 5:55 Take the Time 10:56 Pull Me Under 8:31

    Vital Star 5:45 Another Won 5:36 Your Majesty 3:52 A Vision 11:16

The Sweden part is from an FM broadcast, and doesn't sound nearly as good as LitS. You can tell that parts were edited out between songs, possibly where radio station call letters had been, or commercials, or whatever. no static, though, but is a little tinny sounding, with no deep bass, and a rolloff at about 12kHz, i am guessing. definitely taped from radion, not a prebroadcast DAT copy like LitS (errr most of LitS that is)

the majesty demos part actually sounds really good, even better than the "official 1986 demos" cd. i dont know if these came from a better source, or have been filtered, or whatever, but they have significantly less tape hiss, i am thinking they were taken directly from an original demos cassette.

the packaging is ok, with a chrome font for the dream theater, and all 5 guys' heads floating over a live stage shot, with the stage mostly dark. the cd itself is a picture disc, with the flaming heart from LatM on the cover (a really shitty 2 or 3 color scan, it looks like)

at this same show, i also picked up the following:

Lie white label promo $5 Caught in a Web promo $5 Queensryche I am I promo $5 Queensryhce Bridge promo $5 each (bought all three they had) Fates Warning "Pale Fire" promo $5 Tori Amos "Silent all these Years" promo $6 Lie UK cd $8.99 Lie UK 12" vinyl $10 Majestic Harmonies cd $30 Another Day promo $4

i just wanted to include these prices as a reference for those of you considering "ordering" cds from a certain person here on ytsejam. the UK cds and vinyl are readily available in houston for around $10 each, and many dealers at the show had them, so they aren't that rare.

This is in response to the 2 flames about my trading practices. First, thanks for the award....I'm flattered. It's nice to see some choice words used in describing me.(like asshole...) Your vocabulary astounds me with your overwhelming intelligence. WHY SEND CASES? This baffles me...you can fit more tapes in a small padded package without cases. Besides, there's less postage and if you do an even trade and both keep the cases, everyone comes out even. I've been trading for 6 years now and just about everyone I've traded with has felt the same way. Do you guys have some sort of fetish about getting cases in the mail? (Oooooh....the plastic) I always use High Bias tapes!...That was never disputed by me. People that use normal tapes should be shot. Now about set lists....does DT change their set list every night!?? I THINK NOT. It's virtually the same songs for the whole tour. I always make sure to point out if a show is unique in some way. (like a new song was added to the list...or dropped) But to sit there and write out a set list of the last tour is pointless. You should have that set list memorized....why do you need a reference to see what songs are on the tape? Are you Ronald Reagan? Do you need one just so the tape looks spiffy and extra special in your tape case? O' and Kai...do get my shows from someone else. Go for that high generation tape! It shows your out for only quality shows in your collection. As for Mister Bahr....having a lot of shows doesn't make you superior to the rest of us...It's QUALITY...not quantity. Levels, Levels ,Levels.....oh dear...don't tell me there are still people out there with inferior dual decks that can't adjust levels. (hopefully not the case) You NEVER,NEVER lose quality when messing with the levels...if done properly. If levels are too low, you have to turn your receiver up to 10 to hear even the slightest bit of noise...plus not to mention the HISS. (How Annoying!) Also, if the levels are uneven that causes problems as well. OH! I just love throwing on a pair of headphones and get blared to death by the right channel and only hear hiss out of the left. They must be equal to be listenable. Copy the original levels?! PULEEEEEZ....only if they were done right the first time. (Like people I trade with on a regular basis.) Yeah, that's right....I put work , school, and my social life above my hobby of tape collecting. Wow, do I feel like a fool....how could I be so stupid. Tape collecting is a hobby...not a lifestyle. It's all a matter of priorities and we all have the right to dictate them as we wish. I don't have time to rush out trades in 4 days flat...other things are more important to me than making some guy I barely know happy with a quick trade. You may feel differently with your own situation...I was just stating mine. I'm....confused....I seem to have bad trading practices yet I have an enormous amount of shows. I guess everyone just puts up with me or something? To me, the worst trader is one that screws you out of tapes. Nothing could be worse than not getting the tapes promised to you.

Date sent: 12-DEC-1994 13:32:31 Could someone post the most current set list for this tour. There seems to be some confusion out there. I want to know if they've changed it since I saw them (11/4) and for collecting purposes. Thanks.

How come Portnoy collects audience tapes of shows? Why doesn't he have the soundman tape them for him on DAT? I suppose that would take out all the fun of collecting. Rush tapes every show and stores them in the archives for any of the guys to listen to. (An Oakland show of the Roll the Bones Tour got let out because Les Claypool from Primus dubbed it out...what a nice guy)

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: The Milwaukee 6/29/93 boots are from the radio, not from a soundboard. I have tapes of the show that have the radio dj's announcing them on stage before Metropolis. The boots must have deleted that stuff.

Hello everyone on the list. I thought I'd let you all know

that last night I did what little I could for DT airplay: my

entire show here at the (small) Rose-Hulman radio station, WMHD,

was devoted to DT. I played a roughly even number of selections

from WDaDU, IaW, LatM, and Awake. I wrote down what I played, but

I don't have it with me right now, so if you're interested in

knowing what I played, I might post it later.

Granted, WMHD's listening radius isn't too big, but I _did_ get

a couple requests (Lie and PMU, imagine that), so there are a

few clues bouncing around the Terre Haute area. 8)

Well, I gotta go, going to see GWAR tonight for the third time!

Tell me if you fellow Ytsejammers feel the same way but...

I get a great feeling when I talk to someone who is a Dream Theater fan. I went to the Hammerjacks concert, and it just felt great to finally talk to someone who's into Dream Theater.

Unfortunately, everyone in my dorm hall makes fun of Dream Theater. Especially my roomate. What does he know...he likes R.E.M. I guess he can't relate. My brother and three other friends are the only people with whom I talk about Dream Theater. My other friends refuse to give them a try. I guess they are content with their alternative music. I like alternative music as well, but I like progressive metal more.

    Anyway...still looking for DT imports.

It really irks me when people start complaining (and it does happen) how some guy is charging like $5-10 more than the price in East Oshkosh, Kansas for a cd or whatever. My philosophy is like this, if you dont like the price, dont buy it. simple as that. that's the beauty of capitalism...

Was it you, or Tony Licari, that was going to take one of my Rush soundboards (an uncommon one) and put an ad in Goldmine and sell copies? Just curious.

If I remmember correctly it was Jordan got a permenant offer to continue with Dixie Dregs. So, it wasn't DT didn't want him, it was JR went with a different offer. I suppose DD realized they were going to loose JR and made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Yes. Metropolis Part II would be very cool. I saw Petrucci and Portnoy a while back on the Headbanger's ball and John told Ricky Rachtman (an idiot interviewer by the way) that there would eventually be a Metropolis Part II. I hope he wasn't just saying that to amuse the childish Rachtman, because I was slightly disappointed to see no sequel to the song on Awake. I can wait, though, as long as I have to, because as we are all aware, our good friends the miracle and the sleeper know that love is the dance of eternity. __________________________________________________________ | Andrew Joseph Feyder | "You know, life moves pretty | | Gustavus Adolphus College | fast. EVERYONE WHO ORDERED A DREAM THEATER SHIRT:

I have received the shirts and am planning on mailing them today and tomorrow, which means they should be there in a few days (depending on the Christmas rush, etc). I do NOT have all the other shirt designs done, so if you ordered another shirt, it won't be in the package, but mailed out later. If you have not paid yet, PLEASE DO SO! There are quite a few of you who have not paid, which means I am out a lot of cash, so please mail your money to the following address: \ Jason Giles 3200 Payne Ave. #525 San Jose, CA 95117

Thank you for your attention, now back to our regularly scheduled program...

    >> <<Sad, but true. Yes, I'd -love- to move to Tampa or Detroit >> or New York or somewhere with 'real' radio. >>

    > Well, I can't speak for Tampa

98 Rock, in Tampa, was like a breath of fresh air. Any station that plays Danzig, Metallica, Rush, Megadeth, and my friends' band Mutha's Day Out almost in that order on a Sunday afternoon....on New Year's Day....is pretty darn cool. The really annoying thing is that they're owned by Great American Broadasting, a sister station to our own 96rock here, which is a horrible excuse for a "rock" station.

    > or Detroit,

When I flew up there to see DT, there were at least three stations that sounded better than 96rock here.

    > but New York radio sucks. Q104, > which played the hell out of 'Lie", also seems to play the hell out of bad > songs as well. They have no variety! It's almost like they are Top 40 metal.

My heart BLEEDS for you. It really does. Uh, maybe.

The closest I've heard to "Lie" here was hearing the beginning of PMU used as background music for, of all things, a local TV news promo. --This is Atlanta we're talking about, allegedly the forward-looking Olympic city. Bull-fuckin-shit.

About New York, a friend of mine was up there and said there was a decent station higher up on the dial that played, e.g., Danzig, Type O Negative and Dream Theater. He thought they originated from NY, and he thought their call was WPLJ. I used to live in CT and that call looks familiar. If that's the same station you're dissing, you really need to move down here to scenic Atlanta sometime soon. Beautiful climate. Horrid radio.

Our weak excuse for a rock station is running one of their overhyped "A to Y" let's-play-songs-in-order-by-title promotions. "Gee, see how big our CD library is....?" "Pull Me Under" would have been played during a deejay friend of mine's shift. We called him. Sure enough, they'd pulled IMAGES AND WORDS from the studio. Bastards! I've now made him a DT fan, and he was in agony over the fact that, even if I'd brought him the CD, he still couldn't have played the song.

BTW, C-Man, if you're reading this and have some control over giveaways here, I'll tell you the few people at 96rock who deserve passes and tickets. As for the rest, fuck 'em. They haven't given the band a lick of support. Believe me, I'll find better and more deserving homes for their goodies. :)
