In my opinion, the main difference between I&W and Awake, is that I&W is a
collection of songs, while Awake is a real album; theme's from one song return
in another, the whole album is in balance. Awake is not the kind of album
you play with your CD-player on 'shuffle'.

Sorry if this is off topic, but I've already gotten my taste of Dream
Theater and Fates Warning live on their current tour, so anyone know when
Queensryche is planning a tour? Anybody out there got some dates for
me? And one more thing: I think I heard mention of DT coming back to
the states for some more touring, if so anyone got dates for that because
I would love to see them again. Thanks...

    OK Doc,
Well, I guess I'm partial to I&W being that it was the first
DT stuff I ever owned. I bought Awake the first day it came out and it is
growing on me... Being a relative newbie, I have never heard WDADU (yes, sad
but true!!!!) I plan to get it in the coming year once the Christmas fiasco
is over and done with. I did see the live in Tokyo tape and I must say that
I was blown away with their live musicianship! They appear to be as awesome
in concert as they are in the studio. I missed the east coast leg of this tour
(I joined the list after they were done playing in the area... what a double
loser I am! :D ) I do plan to see them when they come back to the east coast.
    (Anybody know when?)

I think that Kevin Moore will be sorely missed. He was a part of the whole
machine that made DT. Perhaps they will make amends and come back. Being a
keyboard player, I was blown away by his work. I'm sure that Derek subs in
nicely but there is no substitute for the real thing. His songwriting is
awesome and so is his playing. The next guy will have some BIG shoes to
    fill. 'Nuff said.

BTW, to all of you people out there that ordered Ytsejam shirts. I received
mine and I must say, IT IS AWESOME!!!!! Thanks, Jason!

I agree somewhat, Awake does flow. But if the songs were meant to be listened
to in that order, they wouldn't have messed up the order on the cassette, or
    omitted Scarred.

A while back someone told everyone to go tape the shows you go to.
I can only firmly back this statement up. PLEASE DO. Sure you can't
scream your head off, thrash around, go get a beer, go to the bathroom, or
other miscellaneous activities at shows....but you'll have a tape of the
show you were at documented in time for all traders to obtain for their
archives. I started taping shows (of other bands before DT ever toured)
because no one else in my damn area was taping the shows I was at so I
decided to get off my ass and change that. I do like to not tape shows on
occasion, but I make sure someone else is taping the show beforehand.

About all that high speed dubbing....was someone actually doing
this in your trades? Yipes. Has anyone ever had a problem with people
messing with the speed of the tape? I was trading with a Rush trader who
went bezerk when he got a new pitch-control deck and messed with all the
dubs to make them come out really slow.

I agree with what Oscar said...that Awake is a cohesive album, rather than
a collection of songs. I mean, I know a lot of people were disappointed
when they first heard Lie on its own...but how many people reconsidered
when the heard it as it was meant to be, following the Mirror? Hearing it
that way, I gained a greater appreciation for it. I think the whole album
just flows that way, one song leading perfectly into the next. IMHO, of
    course.

On another subject, anyone want to recommend a good setup for covert
recording? Or tell me where to look to get this kind of equipment?
Unfortuanetly, I don't get any of the bootleg newsgroups, so I figured
    I would ask here. Later.

Yes... as is Operation: mindcrime. I think thats one of the things I like
about Awake the most. While I think IAW had the best possible order for
songs, it still didn't seem to fuse together as Awake did. However I like
some of the songs more on IAW. I guess I could put it this way, as a
whole Awake is my favorite, however some of the songs on IAW beat all of
    the songs on Awake.

    hi there everyone...

i have a little free time on my hands, and am wanting to work on a project
i have been putting off for a while, and one which needs to be done soon
before dream theater tours as many times as rush :)

anyway, i am wanting to compile a list of all the shows dream theater has
played, including some indication of which shows are known to have been
    taped.

what i need from you guys is this:

get out your old ticket stubs from the last tour, and email the dates/
cities/venues/opening acts of the shows you went to.

DO NOT send me shows from images tour that are out on bootlegs, i don't
want everyone emailing me. just send the ones that you went to or know the
date of that aren't widely known.

if such a list already exists somewhere for the images tour, please
someone send me a copy or point me to it..

also, i need corrections to the existing list. i need to know which
    shows were cancelled/venues changed/etc.

here is the current list, i will be adding all the images shows that i
know of from cd boots and tapes, etc tongiht, so send me as much as you
    can.

    everyone's help is greatly appreciated...

oh yeah, put "tour date" somewhere in the subject field...
