For those who want covert taping equipment, meaning mikes that don't get set
up on stands for all to see, there is an ad in Relix magazine for stealth
mikes that fit on glasses frames. They are about $100 and are supposed to be
the best stealth mikes dollar for dollar. Of course, if you go to a show of a
band that allows taping, get a board patch or use two shotguns on stands. But
with less and less bands allowing taping, stealth is the way to go.
    PEACE Andy

<<<On another subject, anyone want to recommend a good setup for covert
recording? Or tell me where to look to get this kind of equipment?
Unfortuanetly, I don't get any of the bootleg newsgroups, so I figured
    I would ask here. Later.>>>

I guess there's basically three types of recording equipment:

1- Low end- Basically your low-priced Aiwa or Sony. Typically between $80 to
$130. If you don't have much money and you want to try your hand at taping,
then try for one of these. They're basically walkman-sized, and you usually
don't have to worry about setting the levels- which is convenient, but also
results in a less dynamic tape.

2- Mid-range- Sony D-3 or Sony D6 (anyone know any others?). Both have level
control and decent-quality heads. The D3 runs between $200- $250 and comes
with a mic. The D6 is more expensive and does not come with a mic. The D6
also has more features and is a little bigger than a walkman.

3- Dats and Minidiscs- Well- Digital!! I don't have one of either of these,
so can someone explain more. How much time can be recorded on one MD?? Plus,
I think minidiscs and DATs use different methods of recording (can anyone
    explain?)

Microphones are very important and there are many different types. If you
hear a tape that you like, ask the person how it was recorded.

True... however remember how mad DT said they were that Atco changed the
order and omitted Scarred? I think it was done without the bands consent.
Or they made the CD arrangement first and then were informed that they
had to change it for the tape.

Hey- Thought this might interest you

I'm sure most of you know of the radio show Nightwatch in LA. They did the
special in June with Portnoy. Well they just did a two-hour one and I got a
copy of it. Mike P called in and had some interesting news. He said they
were really going to do A Change of Seasons. He also said in January in
Japan they are doing like a pay-perview thing over there so any one in Japan
get those VCR's rolling. Then the big news. There a doing a small show in
Europe at the end of January doing a entire set of cover tunes! No dt songs
all covers. He said they might go under a different name. He also said
there may be special guests and their going to document it for possible
    future use.
So all of you in Europe if you find out about the show..go and TAPE!!!
Also on the radio show they paly a new version of Oh Holy Night from a
soundcheck in Or. Also some live stufffrom the Palace in LA. Any one
intersted in doing trades e-mail me I've got a lot of DT. Well that's all for
    now....Happy Holidays

    Chris
