i'm with those balls and chunk people! I'm not going to plummet into
a verbose explanation as to why these shirts would be ultimate, since
I'm 100% behind Mr. Bertapelle (who appears to be one of the few real
DT lovers subscribed to this). Why not make 2 shirts available? 1 for
hard-core fans who know where it's at and another for less
enthusastic followers who are afraid their mothers might see them in
    it. Just my $.02.

Hello all out there. This is not related to the band (I am sending
this to all listserv based servers that I am on). This message is
concerning the Clipper policy for Data Encryption, where the US
government wants to have a backdoor so that they can read all and any
encrypted data. There is a petition going around, which I think is
important to read, and sign if you support it. If you would like a
copy of it, please mail me, and I will forward it to you. Again, this
is not related to anything, but I think that it is important to read,
and support. Sorry for the interuption... we now return to our
    favorite band... :)

In Petrucci's column in Guitar World this month he has some licks from 'Barf Bag' - it looks like a bluesy kind of thing.

    Howdy DT fans,

I found an article about DT when I was flipping through an old Guitar magazine (I almost threw it away... EEEK!). In the January 1990 issue of Guitar Player, they review DT's debut album "When Dream And Day Unite". They quote from Petrucci and Myung throughout the article, focusing on their technique and equipment. Has anybody else read this?

I picked up DoE here in San Jose a few weeks ago (Compact Disc Warehouse--- for anyone in the South Bay) and as soon as I opened it, the damn plastic teeth that hold the CD in started breaking. That makes it a real bitch in the car. I imagine I'll just go pick up a similar aftermarket CD holder so I can shoot the other one.

Somewhere before the guitar solo is a bit in 11/4.

    > > Waits For Sleep > > This song has been a total pain in the Butt, I can play it on > the piano, but I can't figure out the Sig. Any help would be great!!!

The main theme of this song could be described as alternating measures of 19/16 and 11/8, up through the lyrics "She shuts the doors and lights and lays her body on the bed." The rhythmic pattern is | 5+5+5+4 | 6+6+6+4 :| It might be best notated as 10/8, 9/16, 12/8, 10/8....

    > > Learning To Live > 00:00 All sorts of fun stuff, but jumps around too much to worry about.

Not really. The keyboard is playing a riff in 15 (3+3+2+2+2+3) throughout the whole intro. The drums enter with a lot of odd bass-drum accents, but by the time the rest of the band enters it's locked into a solid polyrhythm of 15/8 on the keyboard against 15/4 on the guitar/bass. Cool.

Now, if you can tell me what's going on at the beginning of The Ytse Jam... --- Jeff Gray Intel Corporation "My wife won't let me date..." jgray@ichips.intel.com - Howard Stern Opinions mine, not Intel's

Jason Hartman asked on the net about Marillion and how they compare to DT. I would say the keyboard intro to "Status Seeker" is VERY Marillion-ish, I would even say intentionally (the chorus of SS reminds me of Journey, though). I don't have any post-Fish albums, but I would say Fugazi or Misplaced Childhood are good albums to start with (Fugazi is more "progressive" than the rest).

the "mystery time sig" of wait for sleep is no mystery, the beginning is 10/8,9/8,12/8,10/8 then repeats. then it goes to 4/4. depends on how you group the beats. the way it is accented suggests this time sig, though, but don't listen to me i am just a guitar player.... i actually posted the time sig and the notes to that opening riff a while back, dig up some digest about 50 issues ago, it should be there...
