Hi,
Just a thought, but if you use the 'official' burning heart logo
or Majesty logo on any T-shirt design, will there be potential copyright
or trademark infringement problems...?ANybody doing Law courses out there?

Will the T-shirt (if the plans work out) be available to those of us

Some one noticed the number on the lower part of the JPG I posted.
The number is D 101192. Unfortunately there is not an interesting
story behind it. I looked at my disc and found that D 101192 is the
license number under which BMG manufactured this disc. So that is
the story, I don't know why they put the number on the heart.

Hello all. After writing to the band about a year ago, I finally got a response back from them. It is a form letter, of course, but there is some cool info. Here is a copy of the letter:
Thanks for your letter inquiring about Dream Theater. We appologize for any delay in responding to your letter, but the number of fans seeking information has been overwhelming. It will take years to answer each letter personally, but I have put this letter together to cover most of the questions I've come across.
But first, allow me to give you a brief update on the band: Dream Theater completed their world tour on November 28th and are currently writing new material. A new studio album will be recorded in the spring, yet it's too early to give any details. You might have noticed a few new tracks were included in their live set, such as 'To Live Forever', the lovely instrumental 'Eve' and the 20 minute epic 'A Change Of Seasons', but it's not certain these tracks will make it on the next album. It should be ready for summer release and will of course be followed by a world tour.
In the meantime, check your video shops for "Images And Words - Live In Tokyo" -- the band's new 90 minute video featurning live footage from Japan, interviews and the clips for 'Pull Me Under', 'Take The Time', and 'Another Day'. And you can still pick up their live EP, "Live At The Marquee", which I'm happy to report passed gold status in Japan and is closing in on platinum! Although it was released in Japan and Europe, American fans should have no trouble finding it at an import shop.
We have recieved countless inquires from fans trying to purchase the band's first album "When Dream And Day Unite". Unfortunatly, it is no longer made in America, so you might want to check an import shop. I suggest picking up a copy of GOLDMINE MAGAZINE, a publication that lists hundreds of dealers that specialize in rare CDs from around the world.
Another popular question os if there's any sheet music of Dream Theater's music available and I'm happy to report that a songbook for "Images And Words" is currently in the works. Unlike most sheet music which is another musician's interpretation of what the score should be, this book will follow exactly what is on the album as John Petrucci us painstakenly transcribing each song note for note. We hope to have it for sale through the fan club when it becomes available. Guitar enthusiasts should also take note that John has a regular column in GUITAR WORLD, which I understand is doing quite well.
Dream Theater merchandise is still available in limited quanities, you will find an order form on the back with details for each item.
Last and best of all, a Dream Theater Fan Club has just been established to keep people like you up to date with all of the band's activities. Upon membership, you will recieve: A Fan Club biography featuring the complete history of the band as well as personal profiles on James, John, Mike, Kevin, and John, one year subscription to "Images And Words" -- the fan club newsletter (issued quarterly), an autographed band photograph, laminated membership card (for charter members only) and access to Dream Theater merchandise and events, only available to fan club members. Membership is only $16 for the United States and Canada, $22 for the rest of the world.

I agree...I have very few white shirts (and I usually wear those to work, which isn't the same thing)...Ash would be cool, but I can't see the silhouette idea working on anything but white...(Please note, I'm denying white as much as possible, but will buy whatever shirt we come up w/)

I don't think there will be a problem if there are no profits...Of course, I'm not a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination, but I think the main thing that comes up is when there is a profit made...

Yes... you could easily see it during the day because I would outline it with black.
During the day the glow color just looks like an off-white.

hey there!
here's my $0.10 on the t-shirt idea:
the color of ash seems like a good idea; it doesnt' prominently display dust and lint as black ones do and doesn't display any darker dirt as white ones do, while still providing enough contrast to allow the colors to stand out.
as for the t-shirt itself, i would prefer one of the heavier t-shirt types, such as a good, thicker all-cotton one. anyone else think that a pocket-t would look *really* cool with either the Majesty logo or the sacred heart on the breast pocket? i think it would make the little breast logo stand out more, and not look like something accidently off center.
as far as the graphics go themselves, i would be hip with the Majesty logo on the front breast with the list address or the phrase "Dream Theater Internet Digest" displayed around it (part above, part below, surrounding it).
as far as the back design, a couple of ideas:
1) someone mention the "dream theater". even if the theater itself could not be shown (due to a lack of a good picture), how about a graphic/picture of a classic-era theater (the 1940-1950 art deco style)?
2) a larger Majesty logo or the name "Dream Theater" constructed of various computer cabling. something to distinguish it as being from the net.
(actually, i kinda like that second idea)
then, have one of the phrases mentioned (i like "you can find all you need in your mind", or maybe some other phrase of their's that can be construed as net-ish) above the graphic, and have the phrase "Dream Theater Internet Digest" (or something to that effect) with the address displayed underneath it (all in a prominent font and size).
and lastly, as far as the transfer to the shirt, i would tend to stay away from the heat transfer ones (the standard concert-t manner with the crusty paint that slowly fades and flakes off after a while, and gives the t-shirt itself a very stiff and slightly uncomfortable feel). perhaps, limit it to a three or four color ink design which should keep the cost down; anyone familiar with t-shirting know how difficult or expensive it would be? i think this would be the way to go, to insure a long-lasting and a bit more professional look.
as far as cost, i wouldn't mind paying 25 bucks for a t-shirt composed as above. that seems to be the going rate for concert-t's (or other designer t's, such as those cool california graphics ones with the snakes, skeletons, dragons and the like).
anyone on the list have any contacts in the t business?
i think we could pull off a really cool t-shirt here with the enthusiasm and ideas floating around. :)

Actually, it's an import/bootleg 2-CD set. However dont let the traditional image of a bootleg dissuade you: TDOE is (in many of our opinions) of higher quality than Live at the Marquee. It contains a ton of rarities and such that aren't on the albums, and features James singing some of Charlie's old DT songs. Here's whats on it:

I called Tower REcords in NY, looking for the Live in Tokyo vid that everyone recommend that I get. The guy there said that he had one called Music in Progress by DT, and that it was probably the same thing. I had heard somewhere that Live in Tokyo might have an alternate name, so I agreed.
I'm just about to order this Music in Progress, the catalogue number is: ATLANTIC 50537
Is this the number for Live in Tokyo also, or are we talking about 2 different videos here??
