I was wondering if anyone has put together a listing of where all of the
_Awake_ samples have come from. I've started one, but the file got
trashed. All that I could recover was the posting by Ken about the samples
from 6:00.
If anyone has a more complete listing, please post it. If not, I'll keep
working on it so that we can place it in the FAQ when it is updated.

Thanks to KAI for all of that info!!!!
It seems that us fans are not as smart as we so believed, though we probably know about every rumor that has been circulated about the band since its inception. And again I stand corrected about Light Fuse, though I still have a hard time trying to think of LaBrie on vocals for that song. Something about Charlie's singing during the studio version makes me feel that LaBrie would have to almost rewrite the notes for the lyric, if not the melody, then the speed to which it is sung. So much for my Live When Dream and Day Unite tape... <grin>
To the person that asked about Afterlife, the version that several of us have on the Lost in the Sky album is really incredible. James does a great job at singing on it and it is probably one of his better interpretations of Charlie's singing (along with The Killing Hand).
I wish I would have had time to hang around and meet the guys in Baltimore but I was just getting over a stomach virus and it got really cold outside after the show, hopefully I can catch them after the summer tour and have interesting discussions like KAI's.
I posted some related band info to the Marillion list a few days ago and I think I'll post about some related bands to this list in a few days. Just so you people have something else to listed to other than Awake, Promised Land, Inside Out, etc... many of us have disk changers, to those who don't, this will just make it harder for you.
To all of the ROIO collectors, I'm sure we will get some good material when they get back from Europe, hopefully the same people that did LITS will get a hold of a show and master it.
Sorry for the length,
Mike

The new hats are excellent - I don't see anything wrong with them. They have the Majesty logo centered in front and the band name in the regular font in the back - very kewl hat...I don't think I've taken it off yet (besides sleeping)! :)

Dude that would be totally awesome if you could. Maybe if it's not too much trouble you could put ACOS, Eve, and TLF. Of course there might not be enough room. That does sound like a lot of music. But if you had to pick from the three use ACOS. I have never heard it and can't find a bootleg that has it.

Columbus really rocked...HARD and LOUD!! it was a sellout crowd and everything went well for Dt for the exception of a few minor timing mistakes. The only problem which was quite major was the opening band I MOther Earth, or another name for them could quite possibly be Spinal Tap!! They had ssooooo many problems with their sound (mic cords not working, bass cords not working, strings breaking, etc..) that I could not help but feeling sorry for them, even though they bored the living Hell out of me!!! WEll, we got to Columbus around 1:00 and pulled around the back of the theater to see the roadies setting everything up, but no band.. So we then proceeded to do a little music shopping, eating, guitar shopping, before heading to the back of the theater at around 5:30, when this blue limo pulls out, and I recognize Mike Portnoy, and John Petrucci getting out of the back. i had my eyes on my targets and didn't even see Labrie and Myung skirting around me. I went up to these two who looked really tired and they told me that they had just been to a signing at some local store, which I had not known about. Portnoy had his arms filled with cd's and told me; "Yeah, they told us to take whatever we wanted, so I did..." When I asked him about seeing Promised Land in his pile which was an assortment of jazz and classic rock (I think), he jokingly told me that it was for his drum tech. john and Mike were really cool for sticking around to talk to us for a few minutes before realizing that they were late for a sound check (oops!!) I told John I was going to be in his corner, and I was, second row!! He played almost every ripping solo in my face, and now I can die happy. We taped the show (half of it, the recorder went out after halfway), and the quality isn't bad. WE were going to bring a DAT recorder, but couldn't find $400 for the mic!! The mixing is really sharp except in some parts where they boost the volumes this way and that. Kick ass show!! ________________________________________________________________________-_____ | Eugene E. Just a note... as much as I would love to make CDs... This idea has sorta already been discussed... Last year, a few of us looked into the possibilities of getting some CDs pressed for the mailing list, to be sold at cost, and it appeared, at least then, that it was too risky. With some help, we found out that all (blank) CDs have some type of tracking number or something like that... If anyone was to ever get ahold of a copy of this CD, they could easily be traced back to the person who had them printed... I would think that the record companies could go after someone printing CDs, unlike their relative uninterest in tapes... Again, I don't know, but this is why there are not already Ytsejam CDs...
This might not be true today with the relative availability of CD-ROM burners which can also do audio CDs... If ANYONE has any info, please let us know. The one thing is that ANY CDs made have to be sold AT COST, or there would be some much bigger risk involved in it. (Drkhoe, you seem to know alot about CDs... any info (if you get this at all... I am predicting that netcom is going to have a MAJOR crash very soon, after someone sent a chain letter/junk mail to EVERY address on the system, including any mailing lists from netcom)

I read an article about two weeks ago that Petrucci and Portnoy recently moved to from Long Island to Hackensack, NJ which is about 15 minutes outside of New York in Bergen County. I also heard (from some random guy on line at the Tower Records Awake signing) that Petrucci was giving guitar lessons to people before the tour started.

If you are talking about the remix on the 1985 majesty demo disk, I think that *is* Charlie on vocals. I don't think the demo disk was released until after WDADU, and it can't be assured that each song on there was recorded in 1985. It definitely sounds like a collection of random stuff, most of which is demo material (and I wish they had left Wanted: Dead or Alive off).

Also, wasn't the original fan club based in Long Beach?

Hey! Let's give Charlie his due. I always liked the lyrics to Afterlife and Charlie did write them. What's very strange about the whole thing is that the song was played by Majesty with Chris Collins on vocal, but the lyrics were totally different. However, the song was still called 'Afterlife' or maybe it was 'After Life' (slight semantic difference). I can't figure out why it was called Afterlife since it's not in the lyrics. If you have a Majesty boot, take another listen.

It's just the way he stands there "doing his thang" while these lights circle behind him. It reminds me a lot of the Extremist cover for some reason. The entire instrumental bit sounds like it could be Joe too, IMHO, more than anything else John's done.

Fact: AFTERLIFE has been played by the band with LaBrie.
One of the shows were Stockholm SWEDEN 27/10-93, I was there and I've also got a recording of that. They did Metropolis-Mission Impossible-Afterlife... and Afterlife was a killer!

At the B-more show, t-shirts were $23, one had the album cover (I don't remember the back) and one had the 5 band members (incl. Kevin!) with the logo superimposed over them - the back has a globe with "waking up the world tour" above it. There was a long sleeve T for $35, with a very cool clock face/eyeball/clouds design on front, "Dream Theater" above it in the usual font, and the tour dates with "waking up the world tour"on the back. The basball caps were $20. That's all I remember. I picked up the long sleeve T and the band member T. I couldn't decide. :-) They make a killing charging those prices. It's sad.

Thanks to all who originally responded back to me about Mike living in NJ [or Long Island]. I've been a Dream Theater fan for a LONG time (ever since WDADU) and I've know forever that Mike is ORIGINALLY from the island. HOWEVER, I've heard AS OF RECENTLY that Mike has MOVED to New Jersey. As a matter of fact, I even recall hearing that statement on the recent Headbanger's ball from two weeks ago. If any one else has heard that too, definately chime in on the next ytsejam issue. If he is still living on the island, and I heard wrong, well, I appologize in advance. Thanks for the help, and rock on..............

From what I remember, they had the following.....
1.) $20 - A DT hat with logo on front and "Dream Theater" on the back , an off-white hat with black lettering and black bill...very kewl....
2.) $35 - A long sleeve T-shirt (black) which has "Dream Theater" in yellow in front top, with a cool purple eye (DT logo in pupil) set on a clock background. "Dream Theater" in gold along the left sleeve. The back has "Waking up the World Tour 94-95 with the tour dates all in gold/yellow.....
3.) $23 i believe - Black T-shirt with the Awake cover on the front and the same back as above....
4.) $23 i believe - Black T-shirt with a group photo on a purple majesty logo background, with "Dream Theater" in a purple with yellow shoadowed lettering with "Awake" in white underneath....on back there is an alarm clock I believe with the globe as the clock face (in purple, green and yellow) with "Waking Up the World - Tour 94-95" on top and I think something else on bottom...
I think that's all for the merchandise.....if there was anything else, please let me know.....:)

Can someone please e-mail me with the exact date DT will be playing in Vancouver? Are they playing with FW?
I know they're playing Seattle on the 27th so I figure it's around there.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I think that was it(sounds kinda familiar) One more thing: When they say their NOT going to play SDV live they mean it... Not even the little sample in the MIRROR, still REALLY cool though.

They definitely did not let ALL their fans down. They may have let you down, but their are plenty out there, myself included, who like the new album.

I do think the title track is a little longer and more repititious than it should be. It sure does start off cool though.

Whether or not a band has instrumentals has nothing to do with their ability. While it's true that QR, as a WHOLE, can't compete with DT as far as musical chops go, there is so much more to music then how fast you play. Although the new QR isn't my favorite QR album either, there are songs that I like. And on those songs QR paints moods in a way that nobody else, including DT, can do. In that respect, I think DT can learn something from QR.
One other thing that QR does which I hope DT can do is change. Some fans may not like the direction of "Promised Land", but QR never does the same thing twice and aren't afraid to alienate the typical fan who want them to do "Operation:Mindcrime"- style albums over and over. I just hope DT can continue to change and won't feel like they have to keep a similar style because they are afraid of losing fans. > Trey

I'm just writing to say that I'm interested in the compilation. This sounds like a really cool idea. It also would be cool to put ACOS, Eve, TLF on the cd. Hopefully there will be enough interest in this to actually do it.
