just a quick note (or else I'll be late for class).... The reason for
not making a CD is the legal fact... This CD, in all cases, would be
considered as a bootleg CD... If anyone besides list members was to
get a copy, they could be traced back to us, and cause great
problems... I don';t know about the safty of making a CD... anyone
    else out there know anything?

I'd definitely want to get a copy of this CD/Cassette if it comes to fruitation. It seems as if most of us on the digest would be willing to pay. CD is definitely the better format though.

If I had bothered to read the rest of the digest before opening my big mouth, I would have waited to post.

Two Cd's works for me, with everything not officially released. Also, I like Brian Cox's idea of the Japanese deal.

second thing: When Dream and James Unite... yes, it flows better :) I'd be willing to go in for the buy 5 copies; I know some people off-list that would kill for a good recording of WDADU. I'd love to hear James going at it, too :)

I definatly like the idea of getting CDs made, especially if they are made in another country... Takes some of the risk away from the project... I am almost certain that most people would be willing to shell out $10 for multiple discs, considering how much real boots cost...

I jyust read on Screaming In Digital (Queensryche digest) about a new on-line CD service... Prices appear to be average, with legit releases about $14, imports (legit and boot) about $30. The place is accessable either by telnet or WWW. The WWW site supports both text and graphical mode (you select which one when you enter). The sites are:

    WWW: http://cdnow.com telnet: cdnow.com

Again, I just read about it, so I have no idea about reliability, time, etc...

Well since we are taking a poll, I vote for going with all of the songs from WD&DU with James on vocals and we should have enough room to put either A Change of Seasons, or a Combination of the Extended To Live Forever (Barfbag with it I believe) and Eve, but not both. If we decide to make two CDs as someone suggested then the cost is likely to exclude some people, depending where we get them made. Maybe someone can get the cover shot from the album with James' arm pit getting branded by the Majesty symbol (computer graphics experts would be required).

How would we do a tree of CDs for mailing out, or is that just for tapes, we need someone to start posting summaries.

    So far from my memory:

Debating about what songs to include, options are:

    1. All of the songs from WD&DU 2. All of 1 plus A Change of Seasons or To Live Forever, Barfbag, and Eve 3. All of 1 excluding A Fortune in Lies, and The Killing Hand, in place of those songs would be A Change of Seasons, To Live Forever, Barfbag, and Eve. 4. Two Disks, the first including 1, and the second with other unreleased material

Where to get them printed, options are:

    1. Someone stated something about a Goldmine add where we can get disks made for $2 a disk, minimum 500 disk order. 2. A couple of people said they could get a hold of burners and print them, but the cost would be much higher this way. 3. Start a tape tree and just make 90 min tapes of the songs.

Brian Cox is going to talk to Portnoy about this I believe, we need a copy of Light Fuse and if someone has one they are keeping it to themselves (can't say that I blame them).

I was thinking that maybe Ytsejam could start something like what Marillion does with fan club bootlegs. The band and the record company is involved in this, they give rights to the clubs to distribute independantly made CDs. They run about $20 US a disk which is high for Marillion, and Fish usually sells double sets for $20 so I was thinking maybe we could do something along these lines, maybe in conjuction with the DT fan club based in NY. Just a thought, I don't know the specifics of this.

    Hey there,

I just wanted to also add my two cents in on this idea. First of all, I think it would be a great adventure, but maybe one thing we should do first is take an "unoffcial count" of intrested people. And I like the idea about a 2 CD set thing... one with James doing WDADU and the other with the non-released/rare stuff like ACOS and TLF. Like I said before, if we are serious about doing this, we should see if we would have enough people to cover costs. This sounds like a great idea and I hope we can make it fly :-)

    A few things.

    1. Matt, excuse us for wanting to make tapes! I didn't know that we had to consult you before making any decisions. :)

    2. Has anyone considered the legality of this plan? If it turns out to be legal, I'm all for it.

P.S. Stephen Bajzek <MadMax+@CMU.EDU>, your SIG is way too long. Quit adding 22 lines of unnessisary text to each message. And when your SIG is longer than your post, and we get 2-3 of your posts per digest, that 22 line SIG adds significantly to the size of the digest.

Yes, ok. we all seem to be in agreement that this is the way to go. I have seen the Japanese ads in Goldmine magazine for cd pressings. Mabey a few of us with digital equipment or whatever can take this pro ject up and call the companies to arrange information. I think even if we were to get the cd's printed in Japan...have them sent to one central location here. and someone could get the artwork for the jewel boxes printed up and buy bulk jewel boxes, that would be good as well. Personally, i'd prefer text or graphics on the cd's themselves, but couldlive without it if possible. mabey at that stage the liner notes, etc could be assembled into the jewel boxes and the cd's would be ready to go. ........... and i think whenever these cd's do get done, we should have someone give a copy of the cd to the band members at the next possible show....

Alrighty then!!! As most of you know (but as I've learned...some don't), I've volunteered to head this project. So here's what I have so far (Brian Cox...we need to talk!!!):

    1. IF we get this done (NOTICE THE IF!!!), it will only cost around 3-7 dollars...I know that is a pretty broad range, but the price depends on cover/insert/CD art...all of this WILL be voted on by the group, so that we all have a voice, and WE can decide how much it's gonna cost.

    2. This is in reference to the IF part of #1...The Legallity of this is NONE without the bands consent!!! I'm in the process of getting this taken care of, but we all MUST be patient, and it would really help if NOONE mentions it while talking to the band, with the exception of the people whom I've talked with. This is crucial, cause the project has to be presented in the exact manner by which these CD's are going to be pressed.

    3. The material wil ONLY be from WDADU...reasons being that the other material has not been released, and I really think the band would rather it be this way (and if we want, and the band is up for it, we can do another CD later on...but we don't want to push our privilages!).

    4. These CD's will be a FIRST ORDER ONLY type of thing...in order to control the distibution of the CD's, there will only be one order for these (and most likely, the band will get ALL masters and proofs).

    5. The band WILL recieve copies of the CD's if it is done.

    6. It will be called When Dream and James Unite (not Labrie).

    7. All conditions are subject to change as things progress (if the band really gets into this idea, the CD's might be available after the original order via the fan club...but this is pending).

SUMMARY: Sources (reliable ones) are going to talk with the guys, and see if they'll go for this...it would be a definet first (as far as I know), and would be a totally excellent thing, but it IS going to take some time, and WILL be an extremely controlled thing so that NOONE makes a profit on this.

DISCLAIMER: As of right now, this is only a thing that MIGHT happen...if the band says "No," then I'm not going to do this (in order to keep from having a lawsuit on my hands!).

I really feel positive about this idea, and hope that it does work out...if we all work together, and we're patient, we could possibly be a part of DT history...so sit back, relax, and keep your eyes open for further developements!!! Take care fellow DT enthusiasts! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to the circle of fifths, and the pattern of sharps and flats: If the alphabet continued as notes progressed (Using Major Key Sig's) (i.e A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, etc.) eventually the key of Z Major would have 4 sharps.

Yes, there are LOTS of unreleased stuff that DT has done...

Many people have said variations on this theme:

    > Eve [is an] unreleased song

It's been officially released, just not released domestically to the US. (Remember that the US is not the center of the universe. It's not even the center of the world.)

If you don't have it and want it, there are quite a few places you can go to pick up a copy of it (some are on the net).

    4. These CD's will be a FIRST ORDER ONLY type of thing...in order to control the distribution of the CD's, there will only be one order for these (and most likely, the band will get ALL masters and proofs).

    5. The band WILL recieve copies of the CD's if it is done.

    6. It will be called When Dream and James Unite (not When Dream and Labrie Unite...all credit goes to Mr. Cox).

I VOTE FOR WHEN DREAM AND LABRIE UNITE

instead of When dream and JAMES unite. Why James? I think we should take a vote here people...

Choice 3 would be nice, but I really think that choice 1 is the way to go, considering that DT *may* want to release these tracks (Eve has been already) later on.......

I think it would be VERY cool to have a CD thats printed on on the CD, with liner notes and everything.....

Then again, we just gotta wait for all the legalities to come through for this to happen.......I don't see this happening very soon myself, though I hope it happens....
