Hello everyone (sorry for the non-DT content),
Paul Lapinski (our beloved bassist) telneted over to cdeurope.com
and discovered that our CD 'Psychic Distance' is available through this
amazing online service. For those of you in the U.S. interested in
obtaining the CD - I should have some soon for a much cheaper price.
    Email me: jpeele@unf6.cis.unf.edu

Concerning the recent review of our album in ytsejam:
'Psychic Distance' was written long before I&W was released so DT was
actually a very minor influence on our music at that time. I think the
most prominent influences on 'Psychic Distance' (INFERNO) are:
Rush, Iron Maiden (old), Metallica (old), Pink Floyd, Queensryche, and
    Fates Warning....
Anyway, gotta run... (we're only at home when we're on the run)
    Later,
    Jay Peele (INFERNO)

I was just checking out my AOL account, and looking in the Dream
Theater folder, and someone who talked to Mike Portnoy after the show
said that they (DT) were being considered by Rush as openers for their
20th Aniv Tour. Again, this could be a wild rumor (like the one about
DT opening for Queensryche) , but would be pretty cool if true...

I find it hard to believe that this has become an argument. Here's how it happened in Pittsburgh. I dominated the conversation with John P. and Mike P. not because I was being a dick and not letting anyone else talk, but because those guys were more than interested in everything I had to say, and vice versa. They were awesome CONVERSATIONS, not interrogation sessions, like I already stated in one posting. The other DT fans, who I feel no more important than, were also thrilled to find out as much as they did that night about the band, because of my conversations with them. I don't understand this Grilling thing. It wasn't grilling at all! I think anyone who has the chance to talk as extensively and detailed with DT as I did, should not pass up the opportunity. It's not an ego trip ("I know more than you") and the band will be into the idea that someone gives such a shit about them. If you disagree and choose to pass up this opportunity, then it is you who has lost out.

Something we haven't taken into consideration (at least I don't think we have) is that Eve and To Live Forever HAVE BEEN RECORDED AND RELEASED. Just not here. I have EVE, and To Live Foreverhas been released in Europe on the flip side of LIE single. So I don't think Mike or the record company are gonna be cool with including these songs taken from bootlegs. Also, the band has made it clear that they plan on recording A Change of Seasons, so again, I don't think this is gonna fly. Plus, I think we're wasting our money if we include ACOS because it will eventually be released. If you want it bad enough, buy DoE, its well worth it. This isn't my opinion, just a suggestion. I think WDAJamesU is a great idea, and since WEA don't even own the rights to WDADU, they won't give a shit. I haven't decided how I stand as far as the extras go, I'm pretty sure I have them all anyway.

I agree with Tim Lodge, a vote needs to be taken in regards to the title. I think the title sounds much better as "When Dream and Labrie Unite". So there is my vote. Also I think ALL the songs from the album should be included despite the availability of a couple of them on LIT video and the Marquee CD. Also they should be in the same sequence as the WDADU CD. The reason I find this appealing this way is because I've always wished they would go back and rerecord the vocals with James singing. Whoever started this idea, you must have read my (and everyone elses) mind. By having a live version with ALL the songs in the original order, this would be, in my opinion, a more desirable disc than the original WDADU. I could never get into WDADU because of Charlie. I had The CD sitting on my shelf since it came out and never really listened to it because of his vocals. Even now it is hard to listen to Killing Hand on WDADU because it is so much better w/ James. Also I vote for NO bonus tracks, just WDADU tracks on this CD. And if a 2nd CD is done with the unreleased stuff, don't combine it with this CD as a 2CD set, keep them separate. This way each will have its own case, with more room for liner notes and artwork. (I hate when they have 2 albums on 1 CD, and the artwork for 1 cd is on the left of the cover, and the artwork for the second is on the right side.) I would be willing to buy both even if it was more expensive to do than a 2CD set. Hopefully the band is into it. Maybe we can pay some royalties as part of the cost since all the songs are published (or were royalties already being figured in). I wonder what Charlie would think of getting a royalty check for a version of WDADU w/ James singing on it. Slap in the face or what??

My thoughts on When Dream and James Unite:

    1) I like the idea. Sounds fun.

    2) I'll go in on the deal and get 5 cds or whatever, as long as it costs me less than 20 bucks.

However, I think this should have all the tracks that WDADU has, EVEN The Ytse Jam. Why? Well, first of all, we want 'When Dream and James Unite' to be a mirror of WDADU, but w/ James singing. Now, as everyone knows, WDADU is a pretty poor recording. I think 'When Dream and James Unite' should have Ytse jam on it for 2 reasons, 1) To get a good recording of Ytse Jam and 2) There aren't that many songs on WDADU in the first place. Only 7 singing ones. Adding one more wouldn't hurt anything and would fit the theme nicely. Come on, include Ytse Jam. ;-)

Just wanted to say I saw Fates Warning last night, and it was a killer show...even better than DT (on this tour, anyway, it's hard to top them on I&W). Definitely a must-see, if at all possible. Also, for fans of heavier stuff, the opening act Planet Hate is worth catching.

Well, you can start by retrieving the progressive rock mail order faq. You can retrieve it by sending the line:

    get ph7 faq2.mailorder

to ytsejam-request@arastar.com or you can telnet to cdnow.com (they have it for $32.97 along with "Dream Out Loud", "Live in Long Island", "Lords of Sound" and the Live in Tokyo video).

Just make sure that you specify that you want the Japanese CD with bonus CD.

I flew up to Detroit for the show there this past Sunday. The whole escapade cost me a bit over $300.......and it was worth it! I'll see if I can't cobble up a review. Best quote? BTW, I think Petrucci may have recognized my ytsejam shirt, but it's hard to be sure. I was just back of the barricade, extreme stage-left.

The idea about branding Labrie like the original cover is a cool idea. But I would like to see a little more art involved like with DT's newer album covers. So I think it would be cool to have pictures from every song sort of like Awake. I just thought of this idea so I haven't thought of any pictures yet but if anyone has any ideas send them in. Of course we would need a really good computer artist to do this (not me). There should still also be some form of a picture of Labrie on it though. Just my 2 cents. Does anyone else like this idea?

I was wondering if we do make this cd I think that we sould definately include Yset Jam and do it with Portnoy's drum solo in the middle of it. I think that it would be awesome. Anyone else think so?

I also like WHEN DREAM AND LABRIE UNITE. I think it sounds more formal than WHEN DREAM AND JAMES UNITE. When you don't know someone like if you are writing a paper about say James Labrie, you would say something like "Labrie grew up in Canada" you would NOT say "James grew up in Canada". IN other words "lets have a vote"

Does anyone (DR.MOSH?!?) know what's going on with the DT show in Colorado Springs on Nov 23?!? TicketMaster has not heard of any such show, and now it's exactly 2 weeks away! If there's any news about when and where tickets will be on sale, please share your valued knowledge! Thanks!

    Eric,

It sounds like things are well underway. The way I see it, this definitely has to be done with the band's permission cause that's the only way we'll get a copy of Light The Fuse And Get Away. Even if it came down to just doing a tape tree, it would suck without that song.

I actually wrote to let you know that I see Gail (who runs the fan club) at least once a week. I haven't mentioned it to her, and I won't- but if you need any help through her, let me know.

    Andy
