Hey, I just got wind that on the new Guitar for the Practicing Musician's compilation disk (Guitar's Practicing Musician's volume 3) Dream Theater put Bungalo Vindelloo (kind of forgot how to spell it, but you guys hopefully know what I'm talking about) into the mesh. Now, I don't know for sure if it's a recorded version of the jam, or the one that's on LATM. Hopefully it's a recorded version, but I will try to pick the disc up either tonight or tomorrow and report back on it.

On the cd marketing discussion, making cd's would extend logetivity of the music as well as quality, also letting the creators to do creative cover ideas, etc... As for marketing, whether it was a tape or cd, it is still a bootleg, and would be considered as such. Are we trying to restrict this item if it comes to surface to Ytsejam members only, or are we trying to extend it to other fans as well? As for tracks, ACOS was mentioned as a track to add, which would be nice, but one problemo! Isn't the song twenty minutes long or something? Think it over folks, but on another unreleased track note, in my Japanese AWAKE edition, amidst all the Japanese lingo which I just don't understand (wouldn't it be great if one of our Japanese net members would try to translate it for us, hint hint), along with ACOS, EVE, and TLF, is another song (I think) titled "With You, or Without You", which I have never heard anyone mention. Any takes? Well, that's my quarters worth, but with this new boot idea, cd's are the way to go guys, think it over,

Went to the Minneapolis show at the Mirage last night and of course it was awesome(God I love Metropolis). I didn't mind I Mother Earth, I did get highly annoyned when their last song was a 20 minute solo with the lead singer shaking away on this stupid jug thing. Finally they were done and time for DT. I was in bad shape standing wise at the beginning, started way of to the left about 12 people back, then Pull me Under started and I finally ended up center stage about 6 people back, It was pretty wild for the first couple songs then it settled down and you could concentrate totally on the masters at work. It almost was too mellow, I thought Mirror would of been a big headbanging song, that's my favorite song from Awake, but the crowd didn't seem to be into that one at all, everyone seemed to recognize Lie though, Hmmm mabye they didn't get the new CD. All in all a great show. Then we hung out till 3AM after words, I got everyone's sig except for Mike's. He was the last one out and if I made my friends stay any longer I would of been walking home. They all seemed cool, although I didn't really get to talk to them. A couple of guys and I talked to Derek for a good 10-15 minutes. I don't think I had any original questions except "Hey are you going to grow the hair out?" Well in case anyone cares I guess he had long hair and recently cut it short. Oh well that's it other than I bought a shirt for the lowlow price of $23 bucks I didn't buy one last time and I regret it to this day so I guess it worth it. I wanted a hat but self control won out, man is that stuff expensive.

As far as the WDaJU I'll put in a vote for CD's and I'm for the 2CD plan also(the more material the better). And Whoever is in charge of this operation Eric Moegling, right?? Muchas gracias, thanks and well I only know 2 languages. Part I ------

OK, I've decided to take over the title voting for this (remember the project is still contingent on several factors).

Mail me at mbacko1@umbc.edu with your choice of the two titles

    1. When Dream and LaBrie Unite

    or

    2. When Dream and James Unite

I'll post the results on occation to let you know how it is going.

    -------------

    Part II

    Album cover art...

For the person who asked if I had a picture of James being branded, well I don't, I thought that would be a great cover idea though. For the back cover we could do a live shot and we could possibly include a band photo with James.

For this cover idea, we would need a graphic artist or someone with access to some equipment to alter an image of James. Once again, I am not the person to do this but I have a friend who I can get some input from who is a graphic arts major.

    Part III

(While King Crimson plays in the background......... VROOOM!!!)

Has anyone else had trouble trying to log into the ftp site to get the interactive software? I can never seem to get on. Oh well...

I would just like to clear up a few things that have been said. Someone said something about not putting ACoS on a Cd because it will be released. I don't think that it will. When I asked John P. in Baltimore if they would be playing it on tour he said "Uh, no". Then I asked if they would ever record it as a single or b-side and he said "Uh, no".

Also, there has been talk about DT's version of YYZ. You might as well calm down and change your underwear because its not that big of deal. It was done in part of a medely of covers. It was at a show at the Sundance (I don't remember where it is) and it was before they got James so it was completely instrumental. Here is the list of the covers in the medely. The ZZY part only lasted for a few seconds at the end.

Funeral for a Friend (Elton John) Hear of Sunrise, Close to the Edge (Yes) Aqualung (Jethro Tull) Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas) Bohemian Rapsody ( take a guess! :) ) Angry Young Man (Billy Joel) Cruise Control ( The Dregs) Karn Evil (ELP) YYZ (Rush)

If someone knows of a FULL version of YYZ by DT, then please let me know! I wish this tape I had sounded better. Oh, I just noticed that on this tape they do Light Fuse, cool.

See ya! Maybe I'll actually listen to this one right now!

Yes, definitely. Just to add my .02, no songs from the current tour. Kevin Moore must be included on all tracks, and hopefully everyone else agrees. If the problem is not having all the songs, then keep looking, dammit.

It's official!!! Due to the legality of this project...I'm chickening out!!! I really hate to do this to everyone after getting hopes up...but this ISN'T legal...and even if the band gave their consent, it would be illegal (and a breach of their contract with E/W...so illegal for them too!). If everyone wants to do a tape tree, we might be able to get permission to do this, but as for getting CD's manufactured, I'm not going to have any part of manufacturing them (if someone else does...I'd be interested in buying one though...call me a hipocrite). Once again, I'm sorry to Nuke the idea so fast, but I can't afford a lawsuit, and don't want to have a battle with the band, or the record label. Take care fellow DT enthusiasts!

I like When Dream and Labrie Unite better than WDAJ[ames]U. WDAJU sounds kinda ....tacky to me.

I'm in for a few copyz.

We DO need to vote on this as well as other specs. about the album.

I got a little irked when Eric M. wrote that that it WILL be WDAJU. I think we all need to keep it flexible.

I don't think that the band is going to go for it. Judging from what I've heard from some of y'alls' conversations with JP for ex. that he doesn't like boots AT ALL. (Someone warned us not to talk to JP about boots and not to talk to Portnoy about Kevin) But, if they do....that wuold be cool.

Since there's a lot of talk about the "When Dream and James Unite" (or whatever it winds up being called), and there's talk about pictures being used in the CD, I would like to offer my services.

There are two reasons. I have some decent bootleg pictures of the band from the I&W tour. If anyone wants to see them, they're on a little-known WWW page: http://www.teleport.com/~boerio/dt/ The reason this page isn't so well-known is because I didn't exactly want the pictures ripped off, but now I figure, what the hell. We're all DT fans, and I have some good pictures.

If you want *good* pictures, I will be going to the DT show here in Portland on 11/29, and I fully expect I will have a photo pass for the show, unless something goes seriously wrong. We could have nice close-up pictures of the band included.

So, check out the pictures, and let me know what you think. If you want to include these pictures in the CD, whoever is getting this thing organized, please let me know and I will get pictures sent to you.

Yesterday, I sent in a fax to Much Music's Daily RSVP, to request Lie. My fax got in too late, unfortunately, but it might be played today. And yes, I sent out to all the YTSE JAMmers. Anyway, afterwards, while I was at work, a friend of mine told me that DT was on the Power 30, on Much. I tried to get him to record it for me, but we couldn't find our VCR. I did manage however to see the 6:00 am (not the song) rerun of the Power 30 this morning. There was also a short interview with James and John Petrucci. I don't remember much of what they said (it was 6:00 in the morning), but it was generally about why they play the way they do. They also mentioned a show they played back at Berkley. I finally saw Lie for the first time (maybe I can see it again today, if they play my request on Daily RSVP). I also saw live clips of PMU and Innocence Faded.

It was definitely worth waking up at 5:45 this morning!

BTW, are there any other Canadian Dates, after Japan. There was not much chance of me getting to Toronto, and I'd like to know if I have to get all the way to Vancouver, or would they (please) play Edmonton.

I'm outta here (time for class), Later Greg gbodnar@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca
