for the Oklahoma City date when we bought tickets the damn lady didn't
ask us if we were 18 or over (of course, we're not) and so now I have to
try and sell the tickets at the gate, AND I can't go. I'm really pissed
off at this. I hope they play at a larger and not as sleezy venue when
they come back to the US.

This is almost irrelevant. When people receive the tapes they can label it

CiaW was played during Z-Rock's new stuff segment this past week (that airs
at 9 p.m. CST on Wednesdays (I think)), and the DJ said it's their new single.

They played the full version from the album!! Hopefully they didn't just play
the track off the CD, and the single itself has no edits.

Anxiously awaiting the Houston show at the Tower Theater next week! :)

Okay, so I'm a heathen. I listen to Dream and Day all the time. No,
I don't think that Charlie is the best singer in the world, but he does have
one thing over James: He was integral in the design of most of those songs. He
knows his part, and for the most part he had the melodies down. There are
some melodies he does in songs like The Killing Hand and a Fortune in Lies
("Here is a poor man, the heart of this monster creation") that are really
beautiful and/or cool, that James apparently thinks are *under*done. James
is an incredible singer on the stuido work, but live...I don't know. Check
out the live versions of these songs that we already have on LiT and LATM.
The Fortune in Lies line sounds something like "Heee-YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! is
poor man..." He slaughters those lines. The one thing that LaBrie doesn't
have on those old songs is the character of the lyrics. He sings them very
much like he's a cliche' wide-vocal-range singer. Screaming just to scream.

Also, has anyone taken a break from the Dream and LaBrie/Dream and
James argument to figure out that "Dream and James" *flows* better? Say it
out loud. If you're used to saying "Day" (a 1-syallable word), replace it
with a one-syllable word. It flows better and it reminds you of the source
    better.

Leaving the craziest stuff for last, did anyone else think that the
original Dream & Day recording, because of its bad quality, have a
"warmth" or strangely awesome ambience to it? Might have something to do
with the way Kevin was in mix, or maybe because the mix was bad, and a lot of
the lines that John, John, and Kev played sort of "fused" into one. Dream &
Day is still very high up on my list of favorite albums ever, and before
anyone else says anything bad about it, go back and listen to it one more
    time.

The instrumental song you heard before PMU is called "Eve". This song is by Kevin Moore (oh, I miss you Kev!). Didn't you buy the new album "AWAKE" yet? The bonus single CD of the new album contains the song. It is studio-recorded version, so it sound awesome.

BTW, the tickets for DT show in Japan are being sold now. I've got 1 ticket already, and will get more. We japanese Ytsejammers are planning to get together at the show, like you on this list did. I'll post about them after the show.

...Oh, I must wait as much as 2 month until the show. :)

Yes, I know that It would be illegal to put together a CD in the states ... but would it be illegal to do so over seas? And would that band mind if we did something like this in the first place?

    Hey there all,

I just got back from my weekend extravaganza in Kansas City and wanted to let you all have my review on the show...

    SPOILERS TO FOLLOW*************

That should be enough :-) Well, the first thing I should mention is that prior to this show, i had bever heard any of Fates Warning's music and lets just say that they now have at LEAST 1 more fan :-) They were really great... excellent stage presense and very talented musicans. The crowd at KC really seemed to get into the show. In fact after their first song, the lead singer thanked the crowd and said "WOW!! We never expected a reception like this." :-) They went on and did a 45 minute set with songs they said were mainly from their last 2 albums... all of them rocked. There was one in particular called The 11th Hour (correct me if I'm wrong on that title) which was fantastic... the crowd really got into it :-) Now on to the reason for my going in the first place... DREAM THEATER :-) What can I say but UN-FUCKIN-BELIEVEABLE!!! I saw them play only once before back on the last tour in Chicago, and this time was even better (and I thought the first one was outrageous). The did a set list a little different then what has been posted here by others. The main change was that their was bo TOWHTSTS played.... nothing off of WDADU was played. The set consisted of: 1. Pull Me Under 2. 6:00 3. Take The Time w/ Jam and short JP Solo 4. Caught in a Web w/ MP Drum Solo 5. Lifting the Shadows off a Dream w/ Jam and JP Solo 6. Mirror 7. Lie 8. Another Day 9. Erotomania 10. Voices 11. Silent Man 12. Encore- Metropolis Part 1

The jams they did all seemed improvised, but I could be wrong. In fact, I know that I heard parts of Bombay Vindaloo in the LTSOAD jam. :-) And if it's new stuff they have been working on with Derek, it sounds great :-) Overall, the performances were flawless... the one exception was that a couple of times the mix on the vocals was low to start so we heard James come in on like the 2nd line of the song. Nothing major, just funny :-) And Derek seemed to have no problems at all. He was up there laughing, smiling, and just plain enjoying the experience. Seemed like there was some really good chemistry there. I was lucky enough to meet the guys after the show (THANKS TO C-MAN... MAJOR THANKS) and got their autographs and BS a bit. Derek was the first to come out... this guy is not only a fabulous musicain, but he's a hell of a nice guy too. Easy to talk to and wanted everyone's opinions on his playing and such. He even made a point of asking (and using) the names of the people he talked to. John M was the next arival along with James. John M was real soft spoken but none the less nice. We BS about the internet interviews they did. He said he really liked them and that they would be hoping to do more... he asked about the Ytsejam too :-) James was a bit occupied talking to memebers of a band which opened for DT a couple of years a go in Denver. I never talked to the guys from this band but they drove in 10+ hours to see the show :-) And I thought my 2 1/2 hour trek was long :-) So basically he just signed my Japanese Awake flyer like the others did :-) Mike was the next guy I talked to ... he was just like I thought he would be. :-) He also aked me about the Ytsejam (they must really be getting into it :-)) and signed the the flyer. And then, last I met John P. This was quite the experience for me. He was the man who got me (as I'm sure he has done for many people) SERIOUS about the guitar. I didn't get to talk to him much because he was busy with a fan who had made him this jacket. It's a really SWEET looking jeans type jacket that's black with airbrushed Majesty symbols on it and the flaming heart. If you see him wearing it, ask him about it... like I said he got it from a guy in KC. Seeing him play during the show (I was about 4 rows back on his side) just amazed me. I can't even THINK as fast as this guy plays :-) Well that's the main things I wanted to let you guys in on... there are however 2 more things I thought were interesting. First, JP was playing a white and black Picasso type 7-string guitar for the heavy Awake stuff. Looked just like the one we've all seen except it was only white and black. And, the final point which I thought was VERY COOL was that after the show was over and the crowd was leaving, the song they had going in the background was Eve. :-) Not many people noticed it, but sure enough, it was Eve. Maybe it's done as sort of a tribute/reminder to Kevin. I only wish we could have seen Eve and SDV live... oh well. Thanks for your time and let me just say, catch DT if you can because I guarantee it to be the best high you can get through non chemical means ;-) But none of us would know about that now would we ;-)

    Later,

    Brian

    Oh wow!! I'm still excited!!

I went to a record show today and I cleaned up on DT stuff. Lets see...

I got an 8X10 gloss picture (black and white) of the band including Kevin. Its something promotional, probably for the Images and Words tour, no facial hair on John P. :)

I got one of those Awake post cards with the album cover on it and some message about a review listening party on the back.

I got an Awake guitar pick. It's all black and says Dream Theater - Awake in gold.

I got a copy of the Lie promo single with the eyeball-clock picture on it.

I got a great poster of the "jam session" shot from Awake with all of the band members playing in the studio. It's about 3 feet by 18 inches. Full Color.

And the best part is that I got a GREAT VIDEO boot of the Pittsburg show! Yes, from this tour!!! The set does include TOWHTSTS but no Innocence Faded. Its copy right from the original (2nd generation I guess) so it is very clear. The video portion is EXCELLENT!!! It looks like it was shot from the upper deck. It's a bit shaky once in a while but no more than any other boot I have seen. The audio is also very good. James could have been a bit louder but everything else sounds fine. This is probably the best video of them that I have seen not including Live in Tokyo of course.

They also had a ton of older DT boots there, like Lost in the Sky, Skyway of Nightmares, Classics Live, Dance of Eternity, Lords of Sound etc. They also had the CD's of Majesty Demos and Intru(a) Mental. Man those guys sure look funny back in the Majesty days! :)

It was great day! Later tonight I went to see Adam Sandler at my school. Fucking shit!

Maybe next time this record show comes around (in January) I could take orders or something and maybe pick up a few extra things for some of you folks. If I get swamped with like 200 requests for Lost in the Sky though, I'm not gonna be able to do it.

Talk to ya later, I'm gonna go hang up my Awake poster by my Images and Words poster!!

    See ya!
