Well, the CU Boulder crowd got our tickets yesterday for DT on
November 22 at Mammoth Event Center. Only a month and a half left,
    guys...PAWRTAY!!!

p.s. Does anybody know of a date DT will be playing in Salt Lake
City? I'm going to be there for Thanksgiving weekend, and HOPEFULLY,
the itinerary will take them there after Denver. I can see them
    twice in one week!!!

According to the April 1993 Keyboard magazine:

    Korg DW-8000
    ROland JD-800

And he added a Korg DSS-1 for parts of the I & W tour.

No Midi, no extra sound modules.

Now, since he's only got 2 boards on the Awake studio pic, who knows what
he has, but he is described in the article as not being a huge gear
collector, so it it probably 2 of the 3 listed above.

Cool video with very cool editing. Visually, I thought they broke some
ground. But I just wish it was for another song. I don't think that Lie
will win them any new fans. CiaW or 6:00, maybe, but not Lie. Oh well.

Yes, I too saw the lie video. All and all it was ok. However there where some
parts that I think could have been done better.

When Mike was suoposedly back ground singing it looked cheesey and faked. Teh
other complaint is with the solo pictures of JM, they were not smooth, it
looked like a string of pictures stuck together. Maybe it was for effect I am
    not sure.

OTher than that it was great. Defiantly a dark video, and adds mystery to it.

    To answer some other questions:

Did Mike put on some weight?

I really didn't notice, so it couldn't have been too much. The video
            moves pretty fast....

    Why so much blurring?

Probably due to low budget, it also adds to the mystery of it.

    My Question:

What city was the video shot in, NY possibly?

Next HBB DT will be there!!! that is what they say any way. But I will be at
the Savatage show in MN. I guess I will have to tape it.

I doubt there is any interest, but Dream Theater is the 26th on the
most bought albums list in Finland. And it went on sale on Friday!

I hated the video (just saw it about a half an hour ago).. Some
cool ideas, but it is out of the synch 90 % of the time, and IMHO James
doesn't look angry enough. :) The video doesn't do justice for the song
(or the album, for that matter).

First off, I am finally listening to _something_ other than Awake... (still DT though)... I am listening to Eve/Learning To Live from Lost In The Sky... and have been doing so for about the past hour... It is really difficult to determine which I like better... I think overall, I like Awake better than I&W (not by much) but I don't think that ANYTHING can touch LTL as a single... Possibly Voices or Scarred... tough call... Although for a different sense, NO SONG ever will come close to SDV for emotional content...

Anyway, don;t know if I should post them here b/c of all of the traffic generated here with Awake, but I'll do it... I do think that they are at the FTP site though...

    Change Of Seasons

These are the lyrics for the Dream Theater song "A Change Of Season" I am taking them from a vocalist audition tape, and confirming them with the live CD Dances Of Eternity.

    * indicates that the version that I am taking the lyrisc from has this line in a different background voice (very soft) Dances of Eternity does not contains these lines.

Times given in brackets are the start or end time of the section and are taken from the Dances Of Eternity CD.

??? indicates that I am not sure of the word, or part of the world (?) indicates that I think that this word is correct there are also some notes given in brackets.

For those who wished to know about which keyboards Kev used:

On the studio stuff: Roland JD800 Korg DSS1 Korg DW8000

The roland is a newish whizz-bang keyboard with heaps of really big sounds, also some pretty decent piano's and hammond's. The Korg DSS1 is a sampler, 12bit resolution. Not a bad sound, a bit dated given today's synth/sampler technology. The DW8000 is an early digital synth, sorta like a prelude to the kind of sample based machines we use today (like the JD800). Kev liked it because of the joystick arrangement for the pitch wheel/mod wheel, which allowed him to do those groovy Jan Hammer style bends on solos like Take the Time.

On stage for the I&W tour I believe he used the Roland plus a Korg O1W/Pro X, which is one the latest machines on the market. Great sounds, but tends to sound like a lot of the other sample based machines.

As one grows older they become less sensitive in their hearing to higher frequencies. My parents have a PC in their room who's monitor you have to switch on/off individually (it doesn't get its power from the console). Anyhow, they leave it on occasionally by accident and the only way you can tell it's on is the high pitched noise that you mention above. And they never notice that they've left it on cos only I can hear it ;) [Sorry about the non-DT content BTW!]

This makes two weeks in a row! I went out last week on Saturday, confident that when I came home, DT would be in my pre-programmed video future. But nooooo, B&B was on instead. This weekend was a mirror of the last. I've already seen reviews of LIE on HBB (for instance, Jason H.), but again my VCR came up with B&B. I'm in the Midwest. What gives? Anyone else in the area have this problem? I'm damn handy with a VCR (my clock NEVER blinks) and I know that I programmed it right. I think. Any info? Thanks guys.

Awake is still getting better. I can't remember the last time I found so many 'pet' songs on one album. (A pet song would be one that you learn the lyrics to, sing all day, and play on the CD player as soon as you get home.) I can't make up my mind.

In respose to the ytsejammer who asked about progressive/industrial bands, there's a great one called _Thought Industry_ on Metal Blade Recods. Heavy Progressive stuff with industrial elements. I especially reccommend their first album, _Songs For Insects_, lots of great complex songs with tons of time changes and teriffic lyrics. Thier second album, _mOds carve the pig: assassins, tOads and gOd's flesh_ is not as good (at least progressively speaking) but still really worth getting. You almost never see these in stores, sadly, so one would have to probably special order, but it's worth the trouble. Any other ytsejammers fans of Thought Industry? I have _never_ met anyone who has even _heard_ of them. Comments would be appreciated...I would think DT fans would really like TI.

C-man, Dude! I'm the guy with the U of Pittsburgh radio show. Well, I got news. I'm promoting the Pittsburgh show, and giving tickets away for it (This is a big deal for me, cuz its the first time I've had enough interest to pursue this- since I have to do the work myself and for nothing, it volunteer). As I already told you, I've been playing LIE for about 3 weeks now, and the response is great. Last night I debuted the album by playing IF and all of AMBI. Hell with singles (luxury of college radio) go with the epic! Good news about sales. On the 4th, I bought the tape - cuz I have my Japanese limited edition on order & I didn't want 2 CD's. Well when I realized that the tape fucking bit the big one with no Scarred, I returned it. I wanted to make sure Scarred was on the CD, but both major retailers were out of it. Good deal, better than I ever expected, especially here where I thought I was the leader of the DT fans. Obviously I don't know some of them. About that tape thing: I'm still very infuriated about this shit. If you have any connection, please inform them that this kind of consumer(fan) fucking is absolutely unacceptable.

ps. If you can swing back stage passes, I could use them. I'll be on the promotions team for the show, so I'll probably be in good shape anyway, but formal access would eliminate any worry. I will meet them one way or another, I think I deserve it for all the volunteer work I'm doing for them.

Hi! Well, it's been quite some time since I posted to Ytsejam, so I thought I'd throw in a few comments on 'Awake'.

Well... It's a lot different than I imagined it to be... in fact it's a lot heavier than I imagined... But it's sooooooooo cool!!!! This album really kicks ass!

My favourite songs are 'Caught in a web' '6:00' and the 10th track (I can't think what it's called right now).

    My only criticisms are:

1/ There are just too many samples on this album, okay they are good samples, but just too many...

2/ This isn't really a criticism but has anyone noticed the end of track 3 that it sounds like part of 'Red Barchetta' by Rush.... 'Wind in my hair...etc'

    Anyway that's my 0.01p worth!!!

A big hi to Jason Hough (it's been a long time my friend!) and Kinga (postcard is on its way soon!'

Can you please make this demo available to us all. I'd love to hear the original version of this.

    That'd be cool.

What makes you so sure he's wrong and you're right? Jeez! At least back up your statement with some kind of proof, lyric examples, etc.

Dude, I'll look for ya - I'll be the other tall one with med-long blond hair, a blue hat, and probably a zildjian tshirt.

This list will be posted here and on a.m.d-t, and a.m.r-n-r.m.p periodically during the tour, hopefully it will become complete if everyone mails me their local dates...

I think that The Silent Man is a very cool song. One thing I think that DT should have done to make it cooler was when the chorus is sung to have James LaBrie sing "When ther is reason," then have John sing "tonight I'm awake," then james says "tonight HE'S awake". Then in the second part of the chorus have James sing "If there is balance", have john sing "Tonight I'M awake", then have James sing "Tonight he's awake". I think that this would be cool because then it would seem like John's voice is "The Silent Man's" voice.

Does anyone else agree? Do you understand what I am trying to say?

    Trey
