Oh yes, I know what you mean. I am still IN marching band, so it's even
worse for me. I automatically fall into step with any beat that I hear,
so DT makes footwork very tricky. Just be careful in those odd meters.
One time last year during our drum solo we had to march in 7/8 because
that's what the solo was written in, and so instead of marching one
measure on the beat and one measure on upbeats, we marched on the first
three quarter notes and paused for the remaining 8th note, so it went
something like "1-2-1-2-1-2-3 1-2-1-2-1-2-3" We did a big dramatic step
L R L R L R
on the 123 part (or 567). Very visually effective. Well, I digress.

I just wanted to say that thanks to the best buddy a guy could ask for, I got
my autographed CD copy of Awake this weekend. I will also be going to see DT
at the Manhatten Center on the 28th. I'm a DT concert virgin so I'm looking
forward to it. So how's that for a public Thank You, Al??
Just a note (someone may have brought it up before): Did anyone else notice the
intro to "The Mirror" being used as the intro to "Take the Time" on the
"Images and Words - Live in Tokyo" video?? Just an observation....

The background on the lyric sheet is a very darkened, black and white
version of the background on the sticker/postcard that some
people have....on the sticker/postcard, its orange though.....
If someone has this thing, then describe it because I sure as

Here's the deal on all of these goodies, as I know it to be.
The postcards were given out at a store here in Pittsburgh to promote a
listening party. I ended up with 3. I gave one away, kept one and I have one
extra. It's the album cover, in black and white with a blue tint over the
whole thing. It looks just like the cover, except the color in the mirror is
not in color on the postcard.
The picks were given out at the same store on the day of the listening
party (which sucked, BTW) and they are pretty cool. A black pick with Dream
Theater and Awake(underneath DT) printed in gold. I got 2 picks and gave one
away, so I have no extras, but I'll try to see if they have any leftovers for
you guys. I'm pissed at the store, so don't count on this.
The Japanese version has not come in to any of us Americans yet, (at
least I don't think so),so
someone in Japan will have to answer the question about it. Karou was
supposedly sending them on the 11th or 12th, so they should be here any time
now. I can't wait. And for our sake, I kind of hope that they don't release
EVE here on a single, cuz then I would've wasted $30.

MY four favorites (pure listening enjoyment) are as follows:
1) Caught In a Web
2) The Mirror
3) SDV
4) Erotomania
I guess I'm one of the few who like Web this much. I was gonna put "A
Mind Beside Itself" for #4, but that would have been a cop out.
This could change, of course. I didn't even like Learning to Live until
I saw everyone was talking about it on the list about a month ago, and I
decided to give it another chance. More great DT stuff. I guess I just
had to get past the intro...
Poodles!

announced that our last marching band show is going to be rock n
roll. I remember some guy from the University of Delaware say that
he heard his school's marching band rehearsing Pull Me Under. I'd
LOVE to play that, but have no idea how to get an arrangement for
marching band!!! If he still subscribes to the list, would you
please e-mail me back? If anybody else has any other suggestions,

The reason why the CD skips a lot more than other CD's is because the
amount of art work. The more the heavier the CD is. The heavier the CD
is the slow the CD spins. I've noticed that in my Discman, when the
batteries get low it skips more often. The CD doesn't spin as fast so
the player takes more time to recover. This also depends on
oversampling. It also depends on how old the CD player is too. I had to
get my spindle motor (I think) replaced because it wouldn't spin the CD's
fast enough to be read (on the heavier ones). Some would work and some
wouldn't. I noticed that it was only the heavier ones that I had
problems with. CD's are very durable. They won't warp because of a
little heat from a CD player. My friend's uncle gave him like 250 of the
same CD's and we did experiments with them. They are very hard to
break. And very hard to warp. (Never but it in the microwave for a long
time. That'll do it.) Talk later.

I don't know if "ls" is supposed to work, but in ftp the way I take a directory
is type "dir". the interactive thing is in /pub/music/dt_interactive (I think
this is correct. The safest way is to just go to pub and "dir", then cd to
music, then "dir" and find your way to it. Be careful of case sensitivity. I
think the last directory is in all capitals, but I can't remember for sure.

A lot of CD players have trouble aligning speed and the laser at the outer edges of a CD. This happens when the music gets down to the last few minutes of the CD capacity...
CD thickness is just a result of what type of CD the manufacturer uses... another thing that can cause your CD player to jam or loose tracking is the paint on it... It can wobble the CD while playing therefore loosing tracking...
Most new CD players should have no trouble with the 75:01 minutes on AWAKE

Hello!! I've mailed out all orderd Awake's on 11th evening. I send them as small packets, and an officer of post office told me that it takes about 10 days to US, and it takes 12-14days to other countries. I send them by air mail. So, I think everyone who orderd Awake will recieve it after 20th Oct. Keep waiting, and when you recieve your Awake, please tell me what you think about Eve! I was too busy to hear Awake til I understand it all (I hear Awake when I take train for these days), but I LOVE AWAKE!! Of course, I LOVE Images & Words very much, too. So I first heard only "Lie", I was shocked and worried.... It was stupid of me! I'm really amazed by "Lie" in "The Mirror". The suite is so cool! Every song has defferent color, and the contrast between the songs is very impressive. Only DT could make such an album, I think. I love LSOaD, it's very tender song. I moved by the lyrics. Scarrd is also my favorite. And I couldn't hear SDV without tears... This is my first impression, but my 4 favorites at this time are: 1) Space-Dye Vest 2) Lifting Shadows Off a Dream 3) The Mirror - Lie (this 2 songs form a suite, so I count them one) 4) Scarrd (or 6:00) mmm...It's a difficult choice... I love also CiaW, IF, and of course AMBI. BTW, I got my airline ticket to US! :) I will arrive in Boston on 19th, and go to the shows in Providence, Boston, New Heaven, Baltimore and NY definately. I hope I will be in Buffaro and Toronto shows if it's possible. Please talk to me when you find me! I'm a short Japanese girl, and have long straight hair. I will go to the shows with my friend Tomiko. Well, if some Ytsejammer get together before or at the shows, can we join you? Please e-mail me directly if you will be at the shows in east coast! Wow, we have only 5 days before the tour's begining...!!! Thanks! *********************************************************************** * " If spirit's a sign, then it's only a matter of time. also, has anybody else noticed that the TicketMaster's code for DT tickets is #Dream Theatre?
i thought that the guy was just spelling it wrong, but he wasn't. But it's spelled right on the ticket. who knows?
Anyone going to the seattle show (or the vancouver when it happens), e-mail me at altman@sfu.ca, if you wanna meet up before the show.
Tim (I will soon Awaken) A. ....i should be getting AWAKE in a few days... can't wait!

A few random comments about stuff...
First, as someone noted, in my old .sig, I had a misquote of CiaW. That was my best guess at the lyrics from the origional demo that I had, before c-man gave us the lyrics (thanks again for all of your effort)
Next, the image in the background of the lyrics. I was taking a look, and it looks like a small portion of a blow-up of the Majesty symbol. I got the idea when I looked at the CD... sorta the same rough shape and lines...
Let's see, 4 favorites:
1. Scarred 2. Voices 3. Space Dye Vest 4. The Mirror
Next, did any of you seem to miss a few issues the past few days? I went from 549 to 552. I requested an index from the server earlier this morning (about 10:00) and have not gotten one yet at 4:50...
Let's see... Oh, yeah, the Japanese version of Eve... Did I see someone mention that it has lyrics, or was I misreading the person's message? Also, as I posted before, but never appears to have made it out, when anyone gets their Japanese version, could you compare the Eve on their to the one on Lost In The Sky (which, IMO, has the best version of Eve on it... it is almost haunting with the audience chanting in the background there). Does it sound similar, or totally different.
Finally, for the person asking about finding A Change Of Season, the 2CD Why Not? version of Dances Of Eternity has one of only 2 versions caught on boot, and by FAR the best version. (BTW, there is some company that now has a CD called DoE that is a single CD, and I think is the same as either DoL or LoS)

Does anybody else's cd have wierd sounds at the beginning of SDV?
Like at the 1:10-1:11, 1:15-1:16, 1:20-1:21 and some otheres there is a sound that is a sound that drives you crazy like fingers on a chalkboard. I hate that sound.

Queensryche's Japanese bonus tracks are included on the Promised Land CD, not on an extra CD single. And, that Japanese edition is _not_ the limited edition (I mean, you can get it always here). Or you may get them on some CD singles B-sides. So please just wait and see.:-)
And my 'Ryche recommendation.... OPERATION:MINDCRIME is a must-buy. It's a great concept album. The next EMPIRE album is also full of good songs. They are like Rush and Fates Warning more than DT, I think.
OK? Then I'll tell you my 4 favs of AWAKE. (Well, I surely have listened to it 20 times or more! )
Erotomania The Mirror - Lie (I can never think of these two separated.) 6:00 Space-Dye Vest
SDV's a so sad song, and it's hard for me to listen, in fact. Awake is a great album, but I will listen IAW when I'm down and wanna feel hope and encouragement. They are so different type of music...
Thanks (especially for Mr.Higuchi)!

Hmmm...
1. Erotomania/2. Voices (this combo really growing on me) 3. The Mirror (for the metal-head in me!) 4. CIAW is indeed awesome, but Scarred, I think is a masterpiece. 4) If I can cheat and count Eroto/Voices as one song then I'll put SDV here. ~~~ > This could change, of course. I didn't even like Learning to Live until > I saw everyone was talking about it on the list about a month ago, and I > decided to give it another chance. More great DT stuff. LTL took me the longest to like (I liked all the songs on IAW the first time I heard them--- not counting PMU since I'd heard it on the radio) but it quickly became one of my favs. > Poodles! > Glenn
Irish Wolfhounds! (the "The Mirror" of dogs) Zach
