I don't subscribe to, watch, or support MTV (how could I? They've got
Riki R. covering metal? ;) but their rationale was probably something
like this: "DT's album came out a couple weeks ago. This week,
Queensryche has an album coming out. Hey! DT fans like Queensryche too,
right? They won't mind if we switch, and besides, EMI will probably give
us almost enough money to get Riki that cerebral-cortex transplant he
needs so badly."
Oh, I also don't apologize for MTV.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way! I've just heard Jordan from the
footage of the Concrete Foundations Forum and I think he was great and I
think that he WOULD contribute a lot. The sad thing is that they didn't
get HIM! (and I suppose that when I dissed 'the new keyboardist' I didn't
clearly say that I was referring to the guy that played with Kiss and
Alice Cooper, the guy that they're now going to go with, and NOT
Jordan!). (I don't know if THIS really clear things up!)
I meant that while they just played a one-off thing with Jordan, he's
going out with the Dregs again isn't he?, they missed the chance to go
with Jens and got the guy from Kiss. I don't want to continue the
discussion bout this kiss-guy until I know what I'm talking about. All I
know is that I feel sorry for DT that they missed both Jens and Jordan.
Sorry if I pissed you off!

Yep, D-minor it is. Actually this song took me by surprise. I never
thought I would dig a tune like that, and certainly not on first
listen (I hated Surrounded for a long time, then I opened my mind :)

We all know the SDV part in Mirror, but why is it there? That's the question that haunted me. Suddenly it hit me like a two ton heavy thing! The last line in Mirror is 'I'll never hurt you again', then they play ^^^^ the SDV tune. We know (or think we know) that SDV was written because Kevin was hurt by a girlfriend. After the SDV part comes Lie, meaning ^^^^ that the person in Mirror WILL hurt you again, which justifies the SDV part. Anyone else got this idea, or is it just me? (I guess it is :)

Two quick notes... or questions, depending on how you look at them... First off, I assume that it is possible to store samples into a keyboard, and use them sorta as a midi sample or something like that? The reason that I saw is b/c either on Live in Tokyo, or possibly a video from I don't know where, it looked like Kevin hit a key on his side keyboard whenever a sample was played... I assume that that is how they "trigger" the sample... Is this correct, or am I imagining things?
Next off, I have been listening to Lost In The Sky a few times latly, and I really noticed that you can really hear the bass in it... especially during Afterlife... I didn't notice how bass driven it was until I listened with headphones a few days ago... Hopefully the live mix will be that way on the tour (only 4 days til Providence!!!!!!!)

Well, if they were gonna stiff us again, at least they gave us QR in their place! But Ricki didn't even mention the DT segment this week, which makes me think that they've canned the whole thing. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON ?!?!?!?!?!?
'I am I' was cool. If you think that the songs on AWAKE are busy and crowded, they can't touch 'I am I'. I also think that Eddie Jackson could give some lessons to John Myung about tight, fat bass tones. Jackson is really unappreciated.
I had to laugh during the Lie video last night. Last week someone said that Mike looked stupid when he was 'singing' in the video - like he was doing backup vocals and his lips were totally out of sync with the song. HA!!!! Haven't you ever seen someone onstage (not the singer) who lips along with the lyrics because they're really into it? I just about died.

Since I'm an AOL subscriber (waiting to get a SLIP connection) I popped into MTV Online and let them have it with both barrels for stiffing all the DT fans out there. Hopefully someone will take notice. Although, it is MTV after all, and I doubt they give a fuck.
BTW, MTV also has a short plug for their association with AOL that is playing now that includes portions of the Lie video. My, how ironic.

QR was stuck in DT's place since the "Promised Land" CD is getting released this Tuesday and there's been a suprisingly huge media blitz. I can't complain about that though since I hold QR right up there with DT.
And if you think DT might be on next week, forget it. All the HBB ads for next week said that Megadeth was going to be on. I'm starting to think that we'll never see DT IN-STUDIO.
But you know, that might not be all that bad. Riki Rathman really came off as a total idiot while talking to QR. It was quite clear that he has little understanding about what bands like QR and DT are all about. ------------------ Wolfman

the setlist for the video is the same as your thing except it has a drum solo instead of time long past. its a cool, drum solo, too. not too long, and its actually interesting. but then again, its mark zonder.... the video also has the Silent Cries mtv video, which isn't really anything special but its still kinda cool.
hey, would you trade me the CD for copies of some videos and maybe my Live in Long Island cd? i'm still very interested in the CD... but i dont know how much money i can afford to give you for it. or maybe some videos and a bit less money than without... know what i mean? what kind of offers have you had? do you have atomic opera's cd? i have a copy and i dont like it all that much... i could also send you the T-ride cd, which i think has stupid lyrics, but its kinda cool. the case is broken in several ways but you can get a new one for $0.75 or so... ever heard chastain? kinda prog thrash stuff... actually, kinda like doom metal at times... david t chastain is a great guitar player and he doesn't sound exactly like yngwie on the album i have... the chick singer isn't bad... ugly, though... the lyrics fluctuate between being ok and sillyly stupid. but overall its pretty good. dark stuff, pretty heavy at times.
so i guess my first offer is the 2 videos (2 1/2 concerts) + the 3 cds, + maybe copies of the black jester and golgotha albums... maybe some other stuff.... that would be worth about $25 or so...
or maybe the videos + $25 or so... i'm kinda running low on money but i definitely want that cd
btw, i'm gonna see fates 11/10... that should be cool... i wanna see how some of the stuff from inside out works live... and monument is gonna kick ass.... i hope they play "face the fear", "inward bound", and "monument" together the way it is on the album... that would rule. and they BETTER fucking play the apparitian or i'm gonna be pissed. or maybe not. but i wanna see it.
oh, i also have a half concert from the parallels tour and one from '85 with arch.... both are ok.. not great, but ok. the 85 one isn't too bad, just kinda muffled and it messes up in places. the parallels one... well, you get to see frank aresti play all those amazing solos.... amazing... and its from the limelight, so it has one of those cage scenes
by the way, we're no longer gonna be called unruly mob. we're working on a new name now... i FINALLY convinced max that we should change it

I was also disappointed that DT wasn't on HBB. Not that I don't like QR, but I was looking forward to seeing DT. OH, also, don't bet on seeing DT on next week because Megadeth is supposed to be on. I don't know why but we got shafted.
BTW, I personally like Lie, but I thought the video had MUCH room for improvement. There were parts that weren't bad, but the overall feeling I had after I saw it wasn't that it was anything special. I also don't think that Lie should have been the first single. I think CiaW would have been possibly the best choice, and I think Innocence Faded could do also do well as a single.

I think the funniest part of the Lie video is when the camera comes out of the tunnel where they all are just standing there while LaBrie is singing and they show how much they backed up traffic.. I love it!!! Those people must have been going nuts!!!
Then again, Letterman shuts down streets all the time.....

Well I'm off the net in two weeks but just to get you all drooling, in the latest edition of 'Young Guitar', a Japanese magazine (I wonder if this is available in Japanese book stores in the US?), there is a complete part transcription of lie. A bit tough for those of us without a 7 string guitar/5 string bass. Also there is a transcription of Mr. Malmsteen's latest 'Takada's Theme'. The interesting thing about this is that the Malmsteen song gets a lower difficulty rating than Lie. In fact, Lie gets the 'ninja' level toughness, the highest rating. Also there is a feature on Awake that has loads of interesting guitar moments transcribed from most of the songs - this includes that fast string skipping bit in the middle of Erotomania at (one of) the tempo changes (know where I mean? no? oh well). Has the theme from SDV. Complete widdle from Voices etc. Another interesting feature is on Youthanasia (Megadeth), transcriptions BEFORE the album has been released. Amazing. Also has a feature and transcription from Thunder & Lightning (Thin Lizzy's finest - IMHO). All in all, an excellent edition. Pity I can't understand a word of the text :)
