    Ok, ok......

Here's the deal lads (& lasses). I just can't cope with all this talk of
pre concert meetings, release parties and general chit chat about I've
met the guys/I've jammed with the guys/I'm best friends with the guys (No
offence Jennifer :) so here's what I propose... Send me lots and lots of
money so I can fly out to LA, stay with my sister and go to the gig in
December so that I can hang out with all you lovely people....:) Well, I
    can hope, can't I....

On a slightly more serious note though, how about some pre concert get
togethers over here in the UK? And how about networking the concerts too?
I figure if the folks in America can drive hundreds of miles to see two
shows, we can drive hundreds of miles and see all of them, right? Hell,
with the chunnel in place, why not do all the French ones too! Obviously
we don't know the dates of the European tour yet, but I just thought I'd
test the water, so to speak.

On a seperate note, I don't know If anyone ever thanked Jennifer for
doing the "Write to Kevin" thing she did last month, so I'd just like to
say a big "cheers" for taking the time (no pun intended) to give us the
oppurtunity. It was, incidentally, the first piece of fan mail I've ever
been compelled to write. Has he actually received it all yet? Maybe some
of us might be interested in any comments he made ;)

Yours, pissed off coz I'm in England,

    Matt.....:(

uh....sorry about those last posts I put up, I
guess my screen is too big and the word wrap got
            all messed up.

Anyway, in case people were too annoyed
to read it, I would like everyone who is going to
the NYC show on the 28th on here - and who would
like to meet up someplace beforehand to E-mail me
            directly (BALKIEWI @ NJMSA.UMDNJ.EDU) with a response
like "Yeah, that sounds cool", or "Let's meet at <blah>"
or "F**k off, you desperate loser looking for friends"

Any (or at least most) replies would be
            appreciated....

I'll post another thing early next week with
the time and the place for those who don't reply....

I think a top five is a great idea, maybe we should make it a top 3. I
think most peoble will cheat and count the songs in A Mind Beside
Itself as one and Mirror-Lie as one, so a top 5 is too much. I
wouldn't like a list off all songs, because a such will change for
every listen, depending on ones mood.
But I think the list should wait a couple of months, as we are still
learning to live (sorry, couldn't resist :). I mean, we should take
the time (there it was again :) to let the songs grow. Only then can
    we choose our favorites.
    Just my opinion, anyway.

Yep, hear it, and we covered it last week. 8-) It sounds like a television being turned on. My roommate insists it's just a bad sampling, but I agree with the TV theory.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents as well and say that I think the whole DT/HBB thing *sucks*. Somebody at MTV should lock Kennedy and Idalis in a room together and play Rush and Dream Theater at them until they promise to play only *good* music on that channel!

Anyway, I did see the video for Lie, which any MTV fan should know is a blessing in itself.

So is it possible to do *anything* about this crap that MTV pulled? I mean, the new QR album is *incredible* (heard it last night), and I Am I is just about the *worst* song on the album. Naturally, MTV is playing it constantly now. I don't understand why Megadeth doesn't get the actualy Haloween weekend (or are they? "I must be mixed up!") and they can put DT on this coming weekend. All I'll ask is that somebody out there who's going to talk to a member of the band before thie Saturday, ask them if anything's even been *planned*.

Noticably angered...but cynical enough to have expected as much, Mark

Nope, I would put it right there, too. :-) I think the chorus is just awesome, especially at the end, when he sings, "Refused by the world", just love it. And before I forget, here are my top 4 songs:

    1. SDV 2. Caught in a Web (*right* behind SDV :->) 3. Lie (yes, I like it, played *loud*, preferrably :->) 4. Erotomania / Innocence Faded / Lifting Shadows of a Dream (and about every other song on the album :>)

This is my first post to ytsejam (I just joined a few days ago), and I just want to say that it's great to know that there are so many other DT fans out there: I was starting to think I was the only one! I of course bought Awake the day it came out, and here are my favourites so far: 1. Space-Dye Vest 2. 6:00 3. The Mirror/Lie 4. Caught In A Web BTW, I was very glad to see that I Mother Earth will be opening for DT when they play Toronto. Those of you who have never heard IME, you are urged to search out their amazing debut "Dig"--HIGHLY recommended!

P.S. I am interested in hearing Fates Warning. Can I get some suggestions about which is their best album?

Well, I must say I am becoming more impressed with our local Best Buy -- they've recently remodled and really increased their selection of stuff. Anyway, I went in this morning to pick up the new Queensryche (only $9.96! Wow!) and just for grins looked to see what they had of DT...

Not only did they have _I&W_ and _Awake_, but they even had _WD&DU_ and two, that's TWO, editions of _LatM_. I know, this may be no great find to many of you out there, but in Albuquerque NM this is pretty surprising -- it took me quite some time just to find _WD&DU_ (once I found out via ytsejam that it existed) and I'd never even seen _LatM_ around here.

OK, so here's the deal. The two editions of _LatM_ were from Germany and Japan. Looking over the packaging there didn't appear to be any difference except that the German one was $14 and the Japanese one was $22 (!). So you can probably guess which one I bought. Although I likely wouldn't buy it anyway, I was curious if anyone could tell me if there is a difference between these two (e.g., bonus track, something neat enclosed in the package, etc.). My guess is no, seeing as how there likely would have been a sticker or something on the Japanese one to help justify that $8 difference in price. But if there is a difference, I'd be interested in finding out...

(Germany must have some cheap way of making CD's cheap; the version of _WD&DU_ they had was make in Germany and was only $16 -- the one I bought previously (made in France) was $22! Grr...)

    See ya,

    Jon

A Mac programmer?? You can do that with those things? Gee, you learn something everyday. (I'd put one those damn smiley faces here to show that I'm just kidding, but those things infuriate me)

Austria, huh? Nice to have you aboard. Does anyone know how many countries our esteemed list is read in? I've seen the UK, Germany, Austria, Japan, Australia, and the US of course. How many did I miss? Let's hear from you guys in Tanzania!

I've also been wondering how many people subscribe. Do any of the Ytsejam gods keep track? When did it start? Just wondering.

    Toodles! Glenn

It started shortly after Images & Words came out. Brian and Jason thought it would be a good idea, I set it up, the rest is history ;)

There are 459 subscribers from many countries. My guess is that US and Japan are the most common.

Finally staggered out to the store weekend before last and got it... listened to it non-stop for about a week, and then made the mistake of loaning it to a friend. I may never see it again...

As for the 'requisite' top four:

    1) SDV 2) 6:00 3) The Mirror 4) Erotomania

As compared to the last two albums, it seems less complex musically to me. I'm not sure how many other people feel the same way. Probably it's just that I'm used to what they do by now (not that it's any less brilliant or I like it any less, I've just come to expect it as 'normal' from them.)

On the other hand, I do, at this moment, like it better than WD&DU. Most likely because I really prefer James to Charlie. If I could get a boot with all of the really good stuff from WD&DU with James singing, I'd be thrilled... (i.e. FiL, KH, LF&GA, OaMoT...)

Kevin was a huge loss, not just from musicianship, but I really enjoyed his writing on the album (SDV, 6:00...). I'm not sure where they could find someone who could write the way he could. However, I'm looking forward for his solo(?) project... anyone with news?

I'm still not thrilled with the production overall, although it's improving. M&M still seem to get lost in the mix, although I could be mistaking some of Kevin's stuff as JP's.

SDV is a classic... people who have never heard of Dream Theater immediately start asking 'What's that' when it comes on. It's the main reason the person mentioned above wanted to borrow the CD... couldn't get it out of his head.

However, there are a couple of things that I don't particularly care for, in particular IF and LSoaD. They're basically take-it-or-leave-it songs, kinda like AL and TOwHtSTS, IMHO. I also could get really sick of the Silent Man, if it got played excessively. (acoustic does that to me)

All in all, I think it's my favorite album of the year, by far.

I though I saw someone say that there is a concert in Baltimore next week. Can somebody confirm this in private E-mail? I just got back on after a long search. Can someone also tell me if there is a Pittsburgh or Cleveland show and details.

SDV is one of my favorite songs from the album, and it is the one that brings up the most questions:

1.) Who sings this? (It doesn't sound like LaBrie to me....) 2.) The first quote ("He doesn't know what love is...") sounds very familiar to me, but I can't seem to identify it. Has anyone else? 3.) What is a Space-Dye Vest?

Right now, Scarred is my favorite song. It just rocks. It is too bad that they picked Lie for their first single. It just isn't one of my favorites. They still need to improve their videos too.

    hello DTHEADS(tm),

YEAH! This is an awesome day for all Queensryche fans! OCT. 18th is the day for the Promised Land.

Well, I would like to preface my selections with this:

I cannot find anything un-progressive on AWAKE, so the following songs are just the most appealing and relevant songs from my Point of View.

    1) Space Dye Vest 2) Scarred 3) Lifting Shadows off a Dream 4) Voices--A Mind Beside Itself

On another note: A BIG Foot in the Mouth goes to me for not checking the quotation from my favorite lyricist, Neil Peart. I was not looking at the lyrics that were printed up at home. It was purely an oversight on my part. So, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will try not to embarrass myself like that again!! And, I guess it wasn't up to me to tell Mike that his .sig was wrong, so SORRY MIKE.

Well, now that that's out of the way. Check out the new one.

From my understanding watching HBB on Saturday, Megadeth will be on for the next 2 weekends (now I like Megadeath some...but come on!).

Anyways, a little report from my end about DT and QR...When DT came out, I went to the store to pick it up after midnight and stood behind a big line of Smashing Pumpkins fans. I got to the counter and asked for the Dream Theater, they replied, "Who? Is that a new album?". After shuffling through their new stuff, they found it. Today (last night) QR was released...and they sold out of all of them last night (not sure how many they had). Now if only DT would get the same recognition as QR.... ______________________________________________________________________ Michael G. Hey, everyone! Since this is my first posting, I'll start out with my four faves from Awake 1.Scarred 2.Erotomania 3.Innocence Faded 4.SDV

Of course, that will probably change as soon as this is posted, but that's OK. This whole album kick ass, anyway. I am an avid guitar conesuer. I have been totally facinated by player like Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen for years. Being a guitarist myself, I love to listen to player who are total masters of their instrument. Then, about a year and a half ago, I was turned on to Dream Theatre. I can honestly say that I was in awe! I've never heard such incredible musicianship. I was used to great players doing records that feature their incredible skills as individuals. But, DT is a whole band full of masters who not only play incredible solo lines, but they are all flying around IN HARMONY with each other. I know you all know this, so I'll get to my point. As I said before, I am into all the "guitar gods" and their music. But John Petrucci is a perfect conglomeration of all these players. There's his line in LIE that is totally Satriani, the neo-classical section in EROTOMANIA that is unmistakably Yngwie, and many other spots that are reminicient of players like these. But John doesn't just cop their lines, he somehow takes the best parts of these other players' styles and uses them to enhance his own incredible style and virtuosity. He uses the techniques pioneered by other players as building blocks and uses them in totally new ways, ways that are exclusively Petrucci. I've been totally inspired, not only as a guitar player, but as a whole musician. I'm looking foreward to see DT play in Milwaukee on NOV. 4. I can't wait. See ya!
