I second this emotion!!!!!!!! I live in a hicktown called Chattanooga TN
and don't really expect DT to come here, but it would be nice if they would
come to Nashville(100 miles away) or at least Atlanta. Does anybody know
if they are even planning to come anywhere in the south. If they are in
a 300 mile radius, I WILL go to their show.

    Dreamers,
plans for Columbus are as follows. A few musicians including myself
are going to head to Columbus at about twelve in the aftrenoon to do some shop
talk at a few music stores in that area as well as try to get to meet the DT
boys sometime during the day and chat. I got some messages regarding the
plans, but accidentally erased them, along with the addresses (sorry Jane,) so I am posting
the info here. If any of you want to meet somewhere in the Columbus area,

Just a note for whoever asked about the tour dates written on the back
of the t-shirt... The list that Brian Cox and Drkhoe are already more
complete than the ones on the shirt... (I am interested in whether
they will have different shirts when they get to some of the cities

So after the New Haven Show, I went around to the back of the club where the tour bus and equipment trucks were. My friends and I waited for about an hour or so till the band started to trickle out. Luckily I had my JAPANESE Dream Theater Press Release poster thing in full color (thanks KAROU!!)..to have signed....

First came MYUNG..he walked by all of us..said "I'll be back" and went to the bus....bye bye john...

Then came Derek Sheritian, the new keyboard touring guy.....he was VERY VERY Cool to all of us. I asked him about Jorden Rudess of the Dixie Dreggs and he said "Oh God, That guy SMOKES!"... i guess he'd seen the dreggs on tour recently. Anyways ... I asked about the DT situation. It turns out that he found out about the DT opening from a friend of his. So he called DT's manager to arrange an audition. No comments on the audition... he seemed puzzled when I mentioned about Jens Johansen's audition....and how i'd love to get a DAT of that audition! So Anyways..he's only had a few weeks to learn ALL the parts to the songs they are playing. The band SPECIFICALLY told DEREK that they wanted him to recreate Kevin's sound as closely as possible. Derek said that he was more of a player than a programmer......He also mentioned that it took him like a full day to get the licks in CIAW down..some of the faster parts note by note, etc. Anyway I asked about the actual agreement with the band ..and he said that it was ONLY for the tour right now. for the next 16-18 months or something. He was very cool and shook our hands when he left and wished us all luck......my roomate and I exchanged the camera to get individual pictures with Derek. Cool!

Then MYUNG came back. He didnt say too much.. he was with his girlfriend (wife?)....and he seemed like he was in a hurry. so my roomate and i just got individual pictures with him. cool.

Then Petrucci and his wife Rena came around to where we were. Oh all along I've had my Japanese AWAKE color press release with me being signed by all members (except for derek for obvious reasons). John P. was very psyched about my japanese picture press release and my japanese awake cd...etc.. so after reaffirming his "god-ship"...we moved away from him a bit.. he had to take off anyways.

So, now its 1:30am or so.....and i see 5 or 10 people swarm around this one guy ......wait...who is that..holy cow its FRANK ARESTI of FATES WARNING!!!!! So of course, "hey frank, whats up? Can i get a picture with you?" sure thing. cool!!!

finally Larie came out .....Everyone was just getting things signed and asking the same damn monotonous things...so i decided to get brave and asked him what the guys from WINTER ROSE were doing. apparently, they are all doing cool things now-a-days....... Next question: A Change of Season......recorded anytime soon? James said its a possibility for the future.... 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) I asked him also if he likes any of the old majesty stuff... and he didnt really answer one way or the other only to say that they wouldn't be playing that stuff. Then I got REAL brave. (and stupid..ok flame me)....and said

"Hey james your vocalist audition for DT was just incredible..that acoustic version of To Live Forever"...... James looks me very dumbfounded and says "You have that on a tape or something? " me: "yes" james: "wow what don't you people have. 8)" The last thing i asked him was if his real first name was Kevin. (yes i know it is....just needed questions)...and he (kind of forcibly) said "yes, but i prefer JAMES..it is kevin but i prefer JAMES, kind of like Paul Mcartney prefers Paul instead of his real first name". at this point after all these questions james goes jokingly "ok enough of the philosophical shit"....i asked for a picture and got one. he threw his arm around me like i was his long lost borther..it was very cool. i think he was iompressed with my questions or something. 8)"....

so now is the night over..nope..petrucci comes back out for a minute. and now was my chance to ask the best question (statement) of the night. 8)

he was with 2 other people waiting for his wife and i said

" John I just gotta tell you....that WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE Demo.. man you kicked ASS!" (all of this with a big smile on my face). he actually looked kind of peeved and said "Oh....Gee thanks!".he was very cool abut it..but didnt question me about it or anything.

we waited for Portnoy to come out, but he didn't and we had to leave anyways..oh well......all in all a VERY COOL NIGHT!

    Tim L. lodge_tim@ccsu.ctstateu.edu

ps: i mentioned the YTSEJAM internet mailing list to all the guys and they seemed to know a lot about it.. it was very cool.

ps2: on the back of the DT tour bus, people were writing stuff in the dirt....my name is on there on the upper left hand side...8)

hello all, just 17 more days to to minneapolis show, (assuming I survive midterms), It's cool that FW is joining the tour, but it's not cool that they join the tour the day after the minneapolis show, errrr. How's the other opening band, I Mother Earth, I hate standing around waiting for some scrub band to get done, I still have nightmare's from listening to an hour of Mind Bomb from their last tour, Course listening to crap like that just makes you appreciate DT all the more.

okay to the point, I'm not sure if this has been dicussed(I'm a little behind on my ytsejam reading), on the awake cover is there something represent every song??

Caught in a web -> the spider and web in lower right hand corner The Mirror -> well It must be the Huge Mirror 6:00 -> the clock in upper left on 6:00

all right that's only 3, are there more?? I was kind of wondering if the name of that statue is "A mind beside itself" that would cover another 3 songs.

And this one is really grasping, The mirror shows daytime when it's night, this could be a Lie, oh well like I said really grasping.

    just some quick thoughts,

oh hey what did people think of the new Queensryche, I hate to say it, but the first word to pop into my head after 1st listen was, Boring. I heard this was going to be a "heavier" album, oh well, i'll never fault a band that created "Operation Mindcrime".

Well the much anticapated appearance of DT on HBB finally happened on Saturday. I had just about given up on it when I flipped through the channels and heared RR mention that a couple of the guys (Mike and James as it turns out) would be in the studio. RR once again proves what a fucking tool he is!!! "So, do you guys purposely go out to write long songs," to paraphrase. He just has no clue!!! At least I got to see "Lie" for the first time...not bad....better quality than the "Pull Me Under" video. I was kind of disappointed that they only showed one DT video (I figured maybe we'd get two being that Mike and James were there", but hey, beggers can't be chosers!!

Only 4 more days to the NYC show!!! I'm ready, Al!!!

    Vin D.

P.S. If you live in Northern Jersey, go check out Al Balkiewicz's band "1/2 Naked" appearing at a club near you (how's that for a free plug??). BTW, it's the left half that's naked!!

Alright folks... lets clear some things up.... the current tour dates are missing large portions of the good ole US of A, but they will be added as time goes... they may go to Europe first and then come back around again...

This tour is just a preliminary tour, as DT and FW get more recognition due large in part to the tremendous sales of Awake (somewhat like the Iron Maiden phenomena), they will tour larger and larger venues... they plan to tour well into 1995...

I was wondering if anyone that was going to any of the DT shows in the US would possibly be interested in picking up a couple of tours shirts for an Australian fan? Not having the opportunity like you folk to go see them(I envy all you :), I am really interested in obtaining a shirt or two from the current US tour. If anyone has any details about the types of shirts they have(ie long sleeve, short sleeve, designs, colour, etc) it would be much appreciated. If anyone would be kind enough to offer their services in picking me up one I would be forever greatful :) I will pay all costs. Thanks for reading and if someone can help me out, I will be forever in your debt.

I think this is "The only danger is _inside you_." I can't tell for sure, but it sounds closer to that than "infidelity." It also makes more sense taken in context.

Incidentally, FWIW, "Lie" moved up one spot from 38 to 37 on the current Z-ROCK 50 (which is based on trade magazines, CD & tape sales, and listener requests). PMU made it all the way to #1 back when _I&W_ came out; hopefully the tour will help push "Lie" up there a bit further (probably won't go to #1 but top 10 would be cool...). If you like, you can help the cause by requesting at 1-800-992-ROCK.

To anyone going to the DT show at the Mirage in Minneapolis: Do you have to buy tickets directly from the Mirage? I tried calling Ticketbastard, and they knew nothing about the show. Also, anyone that wants to meet up before the show let me know. I will be coming up from Ames, Iowa.

How come GFTPM only transcribed half of LIE in the latest issue? The whole outro solo is missing. Is that the radio/video version? If it is, it sucks. Does anyone have an e-mail address for them so I can shit on them bigtime.

I don't think this got through the first time, so I'm sending it along again. My apologies if this comes through as a duplicate...

    -----------------------

    >>Here's what I hear in "The Mirror" (corrections? fill in the blanks?) >>Words/lines surrounded by ** are lines I don't hear clearly >>Anyone know where they're from?

    >>(3:24) If I haven't behaved as I should # male voice >> Everything you need is around you # female voice >> the only danger is **infidelity?**

    See ya,

I noticed that on my WDaDU disk they printed DOMINICS instead of Dominici for the songs that he wrote. In the booklet they have Dominici.

I think the ***infidelity?** should be "inside you". Just what it sounds like to me, also it fits better in the context of the sentence(and song- Mirror-looking at one's self -etc.)

The other 2 I have ideas about but I cant remeber them right now. I'll post again later.

OK, guys and gals, I was hoping to make this offer without any conditions, however, since radio has not been great (call those radio stations!) and MTV is eMpTV, here's the scoop:

**Some of you have already been put on the list for backstage passes so this little excercise doesn't concern you--but wouldn't you like to help the band anyway? : ) **

Backstage passes (two pairs per venue) will be awarded at random.

Here's the background info: MTV has put "Lie" on rotation (which means they'll play the video 2-3 times from 1AM-6AM)--we know they can do better than that but they're not going to unless we call them!! So, call 1-800-DIALMTV to request "Lie." ALSO, write to their sorry asses on America Online (keyword: MTV) (that means you, Burstin, and anyone else with an AOL account!). Also, if any of you get The BOX on your cable system, call them and order "Lie" (I know, it costs something to get a video played on The BOX but THIS IS DREAM THEATER WE'RE TALKING ABOUT). For what it's worth, "Lie" is the #2 "metal" video on The BOX (#75 overall)--let's push it up!

So, here's what you do to become eligible for backstage passes:

1.Send me email (type "Dream Theater Backstage") describing the result of your calls and letters to MTV and/or The Box.

    2. Tell me which date and venue you plan on attending (I'll need one week's notice).

3.Enter on one line (or two, if it doesn't fit on one):

    <First Name> tab <Last Name> tab <Street/Apt> tab <City> tab <State> tab <Zip> tab <email address or ID number>

I'll reply via email with backstage pass details.

This note will expire on November 11th.

    Later,

    C man

This is off the top of my head, but I do believe that in last week's Aquarian (EC Rocker) there was a CMJ or Vintage Vinyl top 100 list or something and I believe that DT's Awake debuted at either 5 or 15, I think 5......

Slayer and some others were in front (obviously)

    I'll make sure for certian
