I read all of your postings and alot of you mention Lost in The Sky bootlegs.
Where can i find these? Do they sell in certain places?

Also, you mention the songs, To Live Forever, A Change of Seasons, and I
read something about Eve. What the hell is Eve? Where do you people find
this stuff. If any of you know anything about this stuff or where i can get
it and what those songs are on please tell me. I want it all! Back here
in the Albany, New York area all I found was WDADU and a live concert in
France which I still have to buy.

One more thing, can anyone tell me about DT's hour long video(I forget
the name of it) they sell in record stores? What's it like?

I hope to here from ya!

    **Spoiler**

I thought that AMBI was the most accurately played song at the Buffalo show
    UNTIL!!!!
all of a sudden, during 'Silent Man':
    "6:00 ON A CHR..."
    Oops!!
Derrik accidently hit the sample button

then John P. sorta screwed up the abbr. solo
But did I feel dissapointed in the concert? METROPOLIS!!! Enough said!

While I'm talking about the concert, I might as well say that I don't think
'6:00' will reappear in the next tour. I think that the samples limit the
band too much live. What I mean is, the song started and the "6:00 on a.."
samples set the pace for the song. But by the end of the song the whole band
had 'sped up'. So when the samples come in at the end they had to slow down
their tempo quickly(which, BTW, they did supprisingly well)

I just have to mention one more time that METROPOLIS is quite possibly the best
song DT has done live(it was FLAWLESS in every aspect!!!)

Hi...this is the first time that I've posted here and I must admit that
it is great to hear from other DT fans! All I wanted to say is that I
got to See DT the other night in Boston and they were absolutely incredible.
They played at berklee and they truly put on a clinic for all of the
aspiring musicians that were in the audience...I myself have been trying
to figure out the bass and almost cried watching John play...UNREAL!!!
Anyways folks, i just wanted to say that I was very happy with the
performance and for all of you who haven't seen it yet....you will
    really really enjoy it!!

Yeah me too... the CD is ok. I guess I was hoping for more. Actually I
had never heard an QR cds before so while I was at the
bought Empire. I can say that Empire is GREAT! A LOT better than Promise
Land. Maybe PL will grow on me, but I really dig Empire! Not as
progressive as Dream Theater, but still great.

no... she's definetly answering Aunt Kate's question. Aunt Kate asks why
the are up at 6:00 on a Christmas morning (or something like that) and
she says well it is for the honor of God. It ain't a question. That
    wouldn't make sense.

well, if you watch the "live in tokyo" video, you'll see Skid Row's singer
make an appearance. He sings (jokingly) a bit of Pull Me Under (i think).
I believe that Sebastian is a friend of James. They are both from Toronto.

The voice in the beginning of 6:00 (the man's) is probably not from 'The Dead' since Aunt Kate says the line. I wonder if they made that sample themselves instead of lifting it from the movie. I can't find a man saying that line anywhere in the story, and I haven't seen the movie since it came out in the late '80's. It was a very sloooooow movie which I do not want to sit through again. So if any of you ytsejammers feels daring- Go to it!

We're both wrong--it's neither male nor an old English woman. As previously stated, its Aunt Kate and Mary Jane from James Joyce's "The Dead" (this particular sample is taken from Huston's film "The Dead" which is based on the book).

I still think that the first couple of "6 o'clock"s sound male...

This doesn't really relate to DT directly, but does anyone know where I can buy some of those 2-CD jewel cases that are the size of a 1-CD jewel case (like the one The Dance of Eternity comes in)? It would be great for Lost in the Sky, and the Japanese edition of Awake with the Eve single. I can't find them anywhere around here. Hey everyone - my girlfriend just found a "space-dye shirt" in a catalog! (Thanks Jen!) I'm currently wrestling with our scanner, but it should be jpegged and ready for the world to see soon! Hmmm maybe I could use some drawing tools to cut the shirt into a vest, so we'd have a "space-dye vest" online...

So, if you're interested in grabbing it, it (along with a bunch of other Dream Theater jpegs and gifs I've created) are available via anonymous ftp to "cayenne.lcs.mit.edu" in directory "/pub/panther/dream_theater".

"spacedye.jpg" is the space-dye shirt the other jpegs are from the "awake" album covers the "gifs" are frames grabbed out of the LIT video

    Enjoy!

    Hey all,

Just thought I'd throw in my Opinion on the Buffalo show. It totally kicked ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was totally blow away by the sheer playing genius of DT. It was the first time seeing them live and it was incredible. There were a few things that were interesting during the evening. First of all when my friend and I walked into the Hall it was really small and there weren't alot of people there so I walked right up to the front and was about the second row. Secondly Mike played a little during I mother Earth. He played the mini bongo drums(don't know what they are called) during the second to the last song. Did he do this on any of the previous shows? Last but not least is the funniest part. During "The Silent Man" (ok a slight spoiler) while they we all settled in and James was singing the chorus out over the speakers comes "Six O'clock on a chrismas....." then got cut off. it was actually pretty funny! James kinda smiled and looked over at the soundboard dude and kept on singing. Overall the show rocked. The only bad part of the show was the fact that at times James' vocals and the keys weren't up high enough and you could hardly hear him singing or the keyboards! Also when they were playing TOWHTSTS it seemed as though noone knew the song. But I didn't care because I rocked along with it anyway. Just my thoughts on the show. Anybody who was there want to discuss the show I'd be more than happy to talk about it....just send me e-mail!

    Later

    -Mark

P.S Derrick can really sure hold his own....I didn't catch his mistakes but at times he was flying through th song like he had been playing it forever so no worries to those wondering on his playing ability. You won't be dissapointed.

Hi everyone. First off I'd like to introduce myself, I'm Ricky Booth, a 17 year old in Tulsa Oklahoma (USA) and I'd like to say that Dream Theater is my favorite band. I have:

Images and Words CD Awake CD

I know it's not much but I'm a beginning fan. ;-) I'll be getting LaTM and WDaDU CD's very soon.

I've never been to a concert before and I am going to one on November 12th, 1994, I'm glad to say my first concert will be a DREAM THEATER one. I'll be travelling to Oklahoma City (2hrs away from where I am) just to see DT live. I'll be going there with fellow YTSEJAM dude William Wright (wwright@galaxy.galstar.com) He has all their CD's. Well, here is my plea:

I want DT stuff! Anyone selling? Anyone with info? GIVE ME! This is what I'm looking for (buy/sell/trade, WHATEVER!)

DT bootleg sets (I've checked around the places out here, tons of Rush boots, Queensryche boots, but no DT) I want DoE boot!! DT imports/singles (I really really want the 'single' that would have 'Eve' on it -- the japanese copy of awake?, I also would like to know what single has 'To Live Forever' as a b-side and how I can get it (UK single??) DT shirts and poster (I want a I&W dt shirt. I'm getting an AWAKE one when I go to the DT concert)

So, basically, I'm getting WDaDU and LaTM this weekend and want to go about getting the singles/cd/albums that contain Eve and To Live Forever, then I'd like to get a boot (Really want Dance of Eternity bootleg set, soungs niiiiice) and a shirt would be cool. So who has the info? I have cash and I can't get enough! ;-) Oh yeah, I am also getting Live at Tokyo video of course. ;-)

Uh, also, what is and where can I get the YTSEJAM mailing list T-SHIRT?

So many quetions, so little time. ahhh well. DT rules.

    later, Ricky...

This sample is identified and dead. Let's move on to some of the unidentified samples, ok?

The exact quote (in context) is:

"The Dead" James Joyce (Dubliners) p 194 of the Viking Critical Edition:

--I often told Julia, said Aunt Kate emphatically, that she was simply thrown away in that choir. But she never would be said by me.

She turned as if to appeal to the good sense of the others against a refractory child while Aunt Julia gazed in front of her, a vague smile of reminiscence playing on her face.

--No, continued Aunt Kate, she wouldn't be said or led by anyone, slaving there in that choir night and day, night and day. Six o'clock on Christmas morning! And all for what?

--Well, isn't it for the honour of God, Aunt Kate? asked Mary Jane, twisting round on the piano-stool and smiling.

--I know all about the honour of God, Mary Jane, but I think it's not at all honourable for the pope to turn out the women out of the choirs that have slaved there all their lives and put little whipper-snappers of boys over their heads. I suppose it is for the good of the Church if the pope does it. But it's not just, Mary Jane, and it's not right.

there is the clip on the LiT video with them together... other than that I do believe they are friends.

    >I would love for that >NOT to be a rumor although that seems to be the oddest of couples musically!

Maybe not. Apparently James' old band Winter Rose was something in the vein of Skid Row. and they are both canadian, if that has any bearing

    >well, if anybody knows...please post!

There was an interview with James regarding Winter Rose some time ago that might have mentioned something. If there are any archives, you might want to look into it. problem is it's an old interview, I think before he linked up with DT.

Ok, I promise I won't laugh, but I must say that I would LOVE for this to be a rumor at least as much as you would love for this NOT to be a rumor. ;)

    No flames from me, though.

    >> One more thing, can anyone tell me about DT's hour long video(I forget >> the name of it) they sell in record stores? What's it like?

Well, It's called Dream theater, images & words live in Tokyo, and it's one of the best music videos I've seen. It's a 90 minute account of a live show in Tokyo along with some interview stuff and general "with the band" scenes. It's all pretty funny but Mike and Kevin are definately the stars of the show. The tracks played are:

Pull me Under Take the Time (Listen out for puppies on acid/the mirror!:) Ytsejam (Was the drum solo REALLY neccesary?) A fortune in Lies Wait for sleep Under a glass moon Surrounded To live forever (Mr. Petrucci does his Joe Satrianni bit:)

You also get the three videos of Pull me Under, Take the Time and Another Day.

(If I've missed anything, someone do the honours and correct me please:)

So, there you have it. Possibly the music video for your money.

    See ya,

    Matt.
