Hi,
I think I've identified the voice in the SDV sample "He's gonna have to
face it... his toughest challenge yet" sample. I'm pretty sure it is CBS
sportscaster Gary Bender. He does football, basketball, golf, etc. for
CBS, (and apparantly OJ coverage on the night of the big chase). It sounds
like his voice and the way he speaks. Will have to hear him again on some
sports reporting to be sure though. So it seems that Kevin must have been
watching the CBS coverage of the chase (or flipped to it breifly). Anyone
else agree it's Bender???

In case anyone is really really psychotically interested in this
space-dye shirt thing, the catalog is "The Best of Newport News",
produced by Newport News. The numbers they provide are 1-800-688-2830
for orders and 1-804-827-9000 for customer service. The space dyed
tunic is on page 22, item RN6135, $16.99.
Jen (who gave me the catalog) also said that she remembers seeing a
space-dye vest at some point about a year ago, but she doesn't
remember what catalog it was in, and (obviously) did not realize its
significance at that time. :)

Uhhhh....Something I just had to add is that the videos are the short form
of the song on the album. This SUCKS! Why couldn't they just put the
whole "long form" version of the video on the tape for those people who
don't have time to watch eMpTyV. This is the first thing that I noticed
when watching the 'videos', that they jump from one part of the song right
over the AWESOME solo of Petrucci.
So, I just wanted the message to not be misleading.

Grins aside, it is definately worth getting ahold of. I had great fun
watching it. Especially after I found out that the girl in the beginning of
the video who is getting her boobs signed by the band is a friend of a
friend... wild, huh? Maybe I should go visit this friend? hehe... just
humor...
The only thing that isn't great about this video is the quality of the live
sound. I wonder if they are going to have some 'real' sound engineers for
this tour? Post 'em if you know!
Peace,

Hi all!
Last week, AWAKE entered the album charts as #32.
This week, it went up to #15.
Does anybody out there know when the "Lie" single (with "To Live
Forever") will be released in Europe ?
Thanks!

The cool night spawned two creatures leaping across rooftops with
calculated feline-like grace, basking in the autumn moonlight turning
their cares over to the four winds for a moment. Gerard and Dorian danced
their way across midtown before ending up in the most horrific immoral
tapestry painted across modern times in all of the Western Hemisphere:
Time's Square,. Once appropriately meshed in with the trash of modern day
society, they proceeded to try and find some prey to agitate. A group of
four road mongrels perched themselves on the doorsteps of one of the many
houses of the unholy, waiting for some female with a light wallet....as well
as a light price. The two creatures of the night could smell these vagrants
thirty yards off, sweaty bodies emmanating a putrid smell of vodka and cheap
whiskey probably left from the time of prohibitiopn. Gerard and Dorian
eyed these peculiar individuals with enough distaste for one of them to start
a squable, which one of them stupidly indulged into. The four forced themselves
of of the steps of the house of ill repute and proceeded to follow the two
at close range whistling and cajoling, and paying Dorian most of the attention.
Seeying this, Gerard initiated another forceful step toward confrontation by
turning his gaze toward the four in an annoyed stare. "Gotta problem, rich-
boy?" one of them crowed at them. Gerard fully turned around to face them
before inquiring "Go get some cheap meat, freaks" a little bluntly. The four
seemed a little puzzled at this little cheap shot at their lifestyle, but
one soon recovered and invited Gerard with a little phrase which was music
to his ears "....BITE ME!!"

This might be kind of a long post, so be prepared.
Here's the story on the package I unexpectedly received from East/West records.
First off, I was trying to get a promo copy of Awake to play on my radio show
(WPTS, University of Pittsburgh), so I called up East/West records. I got the
number from NY information (wasn't that hard). I finally got a hold of a
secretary there, she immediately gave me their college rep guy. His name is
Pete Rosenblum (sorry Pete for mispelling your name a million and a half
times), and no, he's not on this list (I don't think). Well, I couldn't get a
hold of Pete several times, so I kept leaving messages on his voice mail (3
times I think in two weeks). Finally one day I got a hold of him, and he gave
me about 45 seconds of his time. He was cool, but very busy.<-- this is
important for later. He basically told me to send him a letter on WPTS
letterhead before he could do anything for me (kind of what I expected). Since
I don't spend that much time at the station (to pick up letterhead), it seemed
like more trouble than its worth. I figured Awake would be out before I'd ever
get that done, so I blew it off and waited for Oct. 4.
2nd step: Remember that promo Cman did to get us to call radio stations to
push Lie? He said he would send Lie to anyone who called..... Well one Friday
night, I went to see a friend's band and came home pretty loaded. I logged in
and saw this message from Cman, and like a dummy, I responded immediately. I
told him that I already had the LIE single, but could use future singles since
I had been playing LIE for weeks, and that I was playing about half of Awake
during each of my shows. The message I wrote was alot of babbling, and at
times I got very forward and irritating. First of all I said that I got a hold
of Pete and he basically gave me the blowoff, which is kind of true in the
sence that he only gave me about 45 sec. and nothing came about from it. Next,
I said stuff like "where the hell are our backstage passes", and "tell E/W that
they better start recognizing us", and the kicker "kill the person responsible
for not putting Scarred on the tape." Just stuff to make me (and us) seem
unprofessional. I did say some cool stuff like "Tell them we think the survey
is cool" and I praised Cman for all he's done for us. Everything I said I said
as if I was talking to one of you (which I consider Cman), instead of talking
to someone who works for E/W, which he does.
Then I get the package from E/W, which I wasn't expecting and mail you all
about it (before i actually had it, my mom told me what was in it).
Contained in it is an 8x10 photo of DT (without Kev), CD of Awake, 9 picks
(like the one I got at the listening party- which I mailed you all about), and
a copy of most of the e-mail message that I had written to Cman. At the
bottom of the letter was a handwritten part. It said this:
1. I return all phone calls, so if you called me, I called you back. But I
don't remember.
2. We can't take care of every DJ at every college radio station, if we did,
we'd be broke. Tickets are $25 per ticket, per show. But I'm glad to help in
any way possible, so enjoy the CD.
Pete
My comments on his comments.
First of all, I must have been very unclear in my letter (understandable since
I was drunk) because his interpretations weren't right.
First from "I called Pete, but he kind of gave me the blowoff". I didn't mean
it like he took it, I meant, that he was short with me because he sounded busy
as hell, and that nothing came about from the conversation. I can see where
his interpretation came from though, since I did sound like a dick.
Secondly, although I did say something about going to DT show for free, I never
said anything about getting free tickets from him or E/W. I mentioned being
poor and going for free. I also mentioned Backstage passes to Cman on many an
occassion. But never regular tickets. I'm going for free because of the radio
show, and my connections with the promoter. I feel I deserve it for the
promotion I did for DT and the show here. I don't feel I deserve to meet the
band any more than any of you do, but I feel I deserve to more than anyone else
in Pittsburgh. I don't, BTW, have backstage passes at this time, and there's
only 2 days left. I thought I was on Cman's list, but obviously not. Anyway,
I'm not sure why he got the wrong impression here.
It was really cool that he responded and maintained his professionalism, when I
know he wanted to just say, "Fuck off you annoying dick." I also wanted to
apologize to all of you for acting so unprofessional on our behalf. I've
learned "Don't drink and Net." I'm going to send Pete a letter on WPTS
letterhead thanking him, and apologizing.
Some miscellaneous things I forgot:
Pete's business card was also included in the package.
If you haven't figured it out yet, it was Cman who gave my letter to Pete,
although this hasn't been confirmed by him, its the only possibility I can come
up with.
The free CD takes my Awake count to 4. One bought here, one from Japan, one
from Japan through CD Europe (still on the way, too late to cancel), and the
free one.
I'm still pissed about Scarred not being on the tape. I think I could have
presented it better, but the principle remains. It was very uncool, and if the
band had been anyone but DT, I would have boycotted the whole thing. I don't
apologize for my view, and I will back it to the death. It's stuff like this
that make people hate the music industry so bad.
Cman is still the greatest.
Now the important stuff:
I wanted to be able to get enough picks to send to all of you, but I got 9.
One is spoken for, that leaves 8. I've already gotten a handful of offers from
people, who want to trade something for one. I don't want to rip anyone off,
and since the most popular offer is one tape's worth of stuff, I've decided to
go with that. One pick for one tape. This will let me catch up on some stuff,
too. Email me about trading. I will also include a photocopy of the 8x10
along with the pick. I have one postcard from the listening party left. It's
a postcard of the album cover. It's pretty cool, if anyone's interested.
I believe I'm done. It's not as long as I thought It'd be (just kidding).
I just got DoE and LitS and Japanese Awake w/Eve so I'm on a DT high right now.
Eve has acoustic guitar in it that you can only really pick up in headphones.
It makes it much fuller. It's a beautiful song. The show is Saturday. I want
to ask them who Eve is, or do we already know that?
Later
KAI
ps. (Mike Burstin, please forward this whole message back to me. I forgot to
CC myself, but I don't want everyone doing it. Thanks)

Well, I got my pictures developed today from the shows... and
unfortunaly, not too much... There were NO pictures that were
developable from Boston :( and only 7 of the 14 even had anything
from Providence...
There are a few decent ones, including:
spotlights on Mike P, with John M in front
decent shot of entire band except Petrucci in yellowish light
spotlights on James (probably best of all)
James w/ red lights behind
2 really bad ones, one of a security guard and 1/2 of James, and I
can't even make out the other one...
I, unfortunatly, don't have access to a color scanner, and probably
none are good enough to even make copies of for other people...
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know how they turned out...

Hello all,
I have set up a Dream Theater Web Site (called "When Dream And Web Unite"). The URL is: http://nextsrv.cas.muohio.edu/~mgjones/music/dt/dt.html Check it out, give me comments, suggestions, and let me know if anything is incorrect.
The primary reason I started this project was because I got tired of trying to get to the DT Archive on netcom (too many anonymous users....too many anonymous users... :), so I wanted to make the material there more available to the public during the USA daytime hours...well, after grabbing that stuff, I converted most of it to HTML so it's nice on the eyes, and pretty easy to find all the info you need.
Anyways, I'd really appreciate anyone's feedback, whether good or bad :). Also, if you can think of things I should add, email me.

Uh, Altantic only gave them enough money for 1 video for each song; there are NO unedited versions of these videos. It may suck that the videos were made for the radio release edition of each song, but the band is NOT jipping you...
