There are a few people on here and around the world outside of America who
have been asking me about rare stuff like the Majesty demos and the DT
    demos and ACOS, etc, etc...

The Majesty demos are available from:

    lodge_tim@csusys.ctstateu.edu

includes such tracks as Vital Star, Your Majesty, Another Won, etc...

Dance of Eternity is available from:

    ranjit@netcom.com

includes such classics as A Change of Seasons and Eve.
Make sure you get the two CD version of this disc since there is a one CD
    version of this boot.

The DT demos with Mission Impossible and other unreleased shit is
available from collectors on the net including myself.

A great (or horrible) example of cutting up a song for a video is the song 'Halloween' by _Helloween_. It's a wondrous 13 minute epic cut down to (get this..) 3 MINUTES for a video!!! It's a shame we don't even get to hear at least half the song. Talk about losing the emotion and magic...

I have read several posts which mention Ytsejam t-shirts, and I would love to get my hands on one. Are they still available? If so, where can I get one?

BTW, the October issue of M.E.A.T. magazine (Canadian hard music mag) has a great interview with James: the editor of the mag (who also wrote the article) is a good friend of James' and a huge DT fan (his name is Drew Masters; he is mentioned on the thank you list in Awake). Here is a small sample of the article: "Definition of God's gift to metal in the nineties--Dream Theater. The band that stunned the genre with the release of their masterpiece, 1992's Images And Words...has again delivered musical brilliance with the 11 tracks that make up the new outing Awake. Simply put, if the masters of classical music--Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven--were alive today, they'd be members of Dream Theater." I'm pretty sure the magazine is only available in Canada, but I could post the entire article if anyone's interested (It would be a very long post, but I'd be glad to do it if you think it's worth it...)

Hi, Tim. I really enjoyed your report of the New Haven show, but there is one BIG mistake.... >Luckily I had my JAPANESE Dream Theater Press Release poster thing >in full color (thanks KAROU!!)..to have signed....

Her name is not KAROU, but KA-O-RU. ;) BTW, I got an international phone call from her and she said, "Thanks to all the people I've met at Providence. I wanted to talk to you much more if I could speak English much better..." I don't think she speaks poor English, but anyway, she seemed to having fun visiting north America and seeing DT shows there. She may write the tour report when she comes back to Japan, so let's wait and see. (She'll leave US on Nov.1st.)

And, DT Japan tour was announced today! Well, they'll play on Jan. 21st and 24th next year in Tokyo area (not exactly Tokyo, though). Wow, It's their 3rd visit to Japan, and I just can't wait to see them live again!!!

OK, I was just listening to Live At The Marquee (again), and while playing "A Fortune In Lies", came to the realization that, although we'll never hear When Dream & Day Unite with Labrie singing, we could get live versions of all the songs from that album with him singing and make our own compilation...

My question is: what songs from WDADU have they not yet done live? And do you think we could all put in suggestions for them on later legs of the tour? :^)

    Just a thought...

Geez, It appears that a ton of Ytsejammers live in the area and went to the show last night (+ a Japanese member). I got to talk to Jason Hartman, Steve Mansfield, and Kaoru (from Japan) who I hellped get a cab back to their hotel. I waited around long enough to get autopgraphs from James, Derrick, and John P. i was freezing so couldn't wait for the others. I guess there was someone from the record company giving out album sized cardboard pictures of the Awake cover on one side and the picture of the band from Awake on the other side. I didn't know this so I ended up getting John P's autograph on the back of one of my business cards. If you look at his autograph you would have no clue what it says. Then I saw James and the lasy with the Awake things so I got his signature on his picture. I then got Derricks on the other side (I didn't think it was right to have him sign on top of Kevin Moore. He was very friendly and asked everyone he shook hands with what their names were. He said he would like to make the DT thing a permanent thing.

The show was incredible as usual. I met some dude who said he ahd seen DT 18 times on the last tour-Wow!!! I loved the beginning of the show with all the guys playing PMU and the lights going crazy so you can't see much and the next thing James is on the front of the stage-cool. When they played The ones who help to set the sun, it was great looking at most of everyone else just standing there. There wasn't too much moshing since it was so crowded. What a fire trap! It miust have took 30 minutes to get out of there. What a show! Can't wait until spring.... I was about 10 feet back on the side with John M and Derrick.

to thebigo: I was out by the band, where were you??

:) Well, I've been getting the tour info from Dr. Mosh, so you'll probably see the tour info here at the same time. The thing I have added is you can select any of the past dates and see the concert reviews that have shown up on this list and in alt.music.dream-theater.

Hi all, I noticed that a few other on the list requested that people posting detailed info (set-lists, etc.. material pertaining to the show) put "SPOILER" in the subject line.

I really wanna re-emphasize this 'cuz I saw 2 times on the last digest where someone didn't and luckily I covered the screen for the first but missed the second.

The first one had the title "Baltimore Show" and listed the set list. The 2nd had part of a conv. with Derek about which songs to be played.

I'm not looking to start a flame war or go after you guys, but please don't do it again.

I'm goin' to see them on the 5th in Chitown and the 10th for the twin-bill with Fates in St. Louis. I wanna be surprised. If get any knowledge of thier set list let it be from me straining to see the real set-list on the stage like last time in St. Louis 8-)

Anyway, that's my say...peace..It's not personal...I'd just like to be able to read this for the next week and a half instead of letting my mail bin overflow.

I would really appreciate it if some kind soul out there could pick me up a DT shirt when they go to the next show. I failed to get one last night in Baltimore, I was running around (with Kaoru, HI!) trying to find this guy that had our names on the guest list to get back stage. I forgot all about the shirts.

Anyway, things must not have worked out so I didn't get back stage passes. I guess it was better that way, I probably would have fainted! I felt kinda sick and woozy all night because I thought I was gonna meet them back stage. I didn't know what to say to them or what to do. I still got the autographs and pictures and all that stuff after the show though which was still great!

WOuld someone please mail me if you would be able to pick a shirt up for me? I would pay for the envelope and shipping and everything of course.

    Please help me out here!

I havent looked back at the interview, but I recall having heard James and Mike say on HBB was that it could NOT be put on the tape. For those of you who have bought the tape versions of some of the albums released in the past 5 years or so (including I&W and some older), you know that the tapes tend to get overwound, seize up such that tape players eat them. This seems to be worse on tapes that are over 45 minutes long. I SUPPOSE its possible that the industry is aware of these problems and avoids using THAT length tape for the effect it tends to have when used.

I've heard from a very reliable source that Kevin Moore has been jamming with guitarist Rich Karn, who recently appeared on Shrapnel Records' "Ominous Guitarists From The Unknown" and totally ripped. The music Kev and Rich are playing is described as a mix between My Bloody Valentine and Peter Gabriel...

Ha ha. you beat me to the post i was going to make tomorrow. yes they have done ALL of the WDADU songs live EXCEPT LIGHT FUSE AND GET AWAY. but they have said that its one of the ones that they will do later on in the out. I think it would be VERY COOL if we could make up a COMPILATION WDADU live with Labrie on ALL the songs ....i'm sure we could soundboard recordings of all of them. This would even be cool to have on a CD...if we want to go that far.....i'm sure the band would love a copy as well.

Yeah, I've heard them use 'By Demons be Driven', but that wasn't it. I think Matt is right, it was a Slayer song, but I just couldn't place it.

<<<<The only reason Scarred was left off the cassette was due to space constraints. I know that 90+ minute tapes exist, but for some industry manufacturing reason, they are not used. I think they made the right decision in excluding that song from the tape. If I were still a cassette- oriented consumer, I would rather not pay CD price for a double cassette that

    has one extra song.>>>>

This has to be wrong for two reasons.

1- Extreme III Sides to Every Story had one more song on the cassette which wasn't on the CD 2- The Extreme III CD is over 76 minutes long, which would make their cassette over 80 minutes. This also negates the sticker which is on the Awake cd that has some bullshit about Awake being the longest cd that can ever be made.

I'm not sure whether this was discussed and finished already, but the samples from MIRROR are from the following movies: Damage, Light Sleeper, and Falling In Love. I was asking Mike about the 6:00 sample, and he said that the first voice is NOT a man. He said every voice is female. And then he challenged me to name the samples in MIRROR. I didn't know any of them.

Also- he said the guitar sample was a Slayer song (which someone here correctly knew) and the other was Public Enemy (I assume Chuck D is from PE).

I would have to agree that Mike Portnoy rules.

Also LaBrie's favorite song on the album is Scarred and he was a bit peeved that it wasn't on the cassette. The reason for this is that the cassette would be a bit more expensive with the extra song.

Well, I just went out and finally *found* WDaDU and LatM!

Man, I thought I was never going to find them...

Anyway, the purpose of this post is much more than that. At the collector's music store I ended up at (after *nine* unsuccessful tries at other places) I met a very cool guy who I seemed to remember from my days working at Pro-Sound music store here in Colorado Springs. After exchanging much friendly musical conversation with the owner (a bass player I know by reputation at the very least) and a resolve to jam together, he let me in on the fact that he had just ordered one copy each of three different Itallian DT concerts, which were recorded directly off the main soundboards at these shows.

Now, I don't know if anyone else out there has heard of these "boots", but I hadn't and needless to say, I did some finagling and all three are mine as soon as the shipment comes in! I'm sure that I have friends who will want copies if I can't afford all three (yes, Kryt, one of them is for you ;) ).

This leads me to the main point of the message. Jeff and I got into a conversation about hard-to-find stuff (this is admitedly and _definatly_ his specialty --- you should SEE this store!) and he does alot of mail order. In fact, he is in the process of finishing his catalog and getting fully connected to the Internet and will be accepting orders virtually. I told him that I would be happy to convey requests, etc. in the mean time to help him in his business.

Ok, so here's the deal. If you are looking for rare music and are having no luck, then email me and I will drop the requests off to him. He said that for right now the orders will have to be prepaid via MO, check or credit card (I'll have to find out which he accepts) but he is happy to order anything he can get.

For now just email your questions and inquiries into availability to me and I will try to hand-deliver them to him once a week. I will then email you back and let you know the availability of the music you want and give you the info on where to send your money orders, etc. I think I would rather not accept VISA card numbers for obvious reasons, but you're welcome to mail them directly to him if you like.

Matter of fact, scratch that. I DO NOT want ANYONE sending me credit card numbers at all, period! Thanks, I feel much better now.

Just send your requests to me with the message header "MUSIC REQUEST" and I'll know it's a message for Jeff.

Also, try to be patient. I will not be going to see Jeff every day and your requests might take some research on his part. I will _try_ to at least respond saying "I got your message, thanx," but remember that I am doing this as a favor both to Jeff and to all the Ytsejammers. I have a day job and a full college schedule to maintain as well ;)

At least one! Matter of fact, I know there's a couple of others too.

Might as well ask "are there any musicians on this list?" ;)

    Check the nickname!

Last night I saw them at the Manhattan Center. They were pretty good, but the crowd blew. There was no moshing (which is fine) but there was a lot pushing. It was ridiculous. Everyone in the first 5 rows, including myself couldn't breathe, or even move our arms the slightest bit. I understand that I'm gonna get pushed if I'm up that close, but I feel it should only happen if people are moshing. The crowd was just trying to push their way ahead to get 2 feet closer to the band. After The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun, I moved back to the pit (about 10-15 rows back) and enjoyed myself much more. But again the crowd kind of sucked. During the Mirror, one of the heaviest songs, every one was sitting around. Yet when they went into Lie, the whole place was one huge mosh pit. But the people went out of their way, it seemed, to push other people. Also I saw about 3 fights break out. Sorry if this post is too bitchy, but I hate these damn poser fans. They made a great show only pretty good. Some DT highlights included Pull Me Under (which was started before they even got on stage), 6:00, Caught in a Web, the Drum Solo (everyone was yelling "Neil Peart!!!"), Another Day, Mirror/Lie, Voices, and Metropolis. I Mother Earth was pretty good, I thought. All their songs had a real heavy beat. Oh yeah...Derek missed his cue on Another Day - that Sax solo (on keyboards) was messed up. James and Petrucci were laughing about it on stage. Anyway, I hope the next time around things are a lot better.
