Fight:The new Fight album is out - and is titled A Small Deadly Space. The new
guitarist does seem to fit in well. At first run through, the music seems
to be heavier and smarter than War of Words. It's great to see Halford still
    going - and improving.

Echolyn: I just picked up As The World, and am rather dissapointed. It
seems to be cross between Yes and Queen - I was under the impression that
it was more along the lines of DT - a heavier edge, with more powerful
vocals. It seems that DT is really in a class
by themselves, and difficult to compare to other bands. Does Echolyn's
    music get better with listening?

The Organization (formerly Death Angel): A new release is scheduled for May
9th, titled Savor the Flavor. I just saw them here in Mpls - great show
(although it was only 45 minutes) - very intense. They have really
expanded the great vocal harmonies of the lead gutarist and drummer. It's
heavier than D.A. - but in a grungier (not Seattle grunge) way - not like
    the older thrash.

Subconsious: Any opinions/comments from those of you who have received their
    copy already?

King Diamond: Does anyone have A Spider's Lullaby (sp?)? I've heard it's
available now. Is Andy LaRoch still with them? Rumors said he might have
been with Death? If any of you like Diamond - check out his work with
Mercyful Fate. In the Shadows(1993) and Time (1994) might be the best work
he's ever done - he's finally toned his voice down, and the guitar duo of
Hank Sherman and Michael Denner is phenominal!

Sorry for the long post. It's good to see new tunes out!

They had one hit awhile back, entitled "From the Greenhouse" I think,
from a similarly-titled album; they've had at least another album
released since then. I liked what I heard, not frightfully
progressive but better than decent. :) A deejay friend here was a
big fan of theirs and that might be the only reason why they got
airplay here (he had the "pull" to play them if he wanted to). Since
then, that station has become less adventurous. I bought the cassette
based on my friend's recommendation and as I said, I liked it.

Hello again, my marvelous fellow Dream Thespians...

To Steven Zebrowski: I was at that show! I'm not sure it was on July 20th, though. Can we get a tourdate-check from someone with a listing of all the dates? Anyway, I remember the storm. I remember thinking that the Galactic Cowboys' performance of "If I Were A Killer" was absolutely demonic and would have made the best video shoot ever. Newspaper and napkins flying all over the place, an occasional box of popcorn tossed to the high winds for the nice spread-effect of the individual pieces. Those wiseguys in the audience were really enjoying themselves showering us with that stuff! Incredible rains, thunder, red lights pouring down on the band, not to mention the intense lightning that gave the whole performance a nice strobe-effect! The last line was especially powerful, "If I were, AAA KILLLAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"

To Michael Kizer: from what I have heard, the piece is done with a single-pickup guitar. The delay is utilized by turning the one pickup on and off really, really fast, not with the volume knob technique. Oh well, I'm going to buy the album eventually!!

To Greg: favorite Awake solos...hmmm...Scarred is definitely cool. I also really like the Innocence Faded instrumental part, and the solos from Voices and Lie.

To Jenniebear: yes, my research is complete. It is from the Australian Aborigines. You are correct.

So...when are the boys gonna rip through Seattle again?

To Mike Van Opstall: I'll see your verse and raise you one...

Metropolis, Part 1: As a child, I thought I could live without pain, without sorrow. As a man, I've found it's all caught up with me. I'm asleep yet I'm so afraid.

I Corinthians 13:11: When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

It's weird how Petrucci hints at Christianity in so many of his songs, but never actually quotes anything verbatim! This line from Metropolis is not the only "sort of" reference he has made to Christianity... Of course, he is a poet, and the Bible is full of poetry, so it would be somewhat natural if Petrucci drew lyrical ideas from Bible verse.

Yes, and _Faith, Hope, Love_ is also the title of a King's X album. (Sorry, I just have to jump in when someone mentions my favorite Biblical passage.)

Interestingly enough, charity is used in the King James version of the Bible (instead of love), so I would guess that the original ancient text means the giving and sharing aspect of love rather than the most general interpretation.

    Hi!

#1: I think I emailed some tv-show and requested TSM, not that I would be able to see it or anything, but a fellow jammer asked for a favor so I did it! Did they actually say something about it? And why couldn't they play it? BTW, has MTV over there (the US) played it yet?

(BTW, BTW: is Daisy Fuentes on a lot of the time? Us here in europe can only catch her on Sundays when euro-MTV shows 'American top-20'! Bummer!)

#2: Interesting to read about the other singers DT have worked with. I have got LaBrie's audition which is some of the best of him I've ever heard, LTL is magnificent, but I also got 'Don't look past me' with Chris Cintron singing and one thing struck me: He has got a very *nice* voice, not very heavy-metallish, but suddenly I discovered that at times he sounds exactly like Stevie Wonder! Cool! Most people think Stevie sucks and hates songs like 'I just called...' but he has done so much more than that. The best album has to be TALKING BOOK from 1972, which is very cool with tunes like Superstition, and also SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE from 1976 which is a bit pretentious but still, some great songs: I wish, Sir Duke, Contusion (which sounds a bit DT-ish with the melody-lines). Ooops, getting off-subject! Still Stevie Wonder is great IMO!

#3: Farting bass on WDADU, yes that's true. But on the demos he has got a much more distorted tone, it sounds a little better, (but if you really think about it, it sounds like crap or should I say very non-produced.) But it made me discover stuff that I didn't hear on the actual album-version, the song I'm thinking about is TOWHTSTS, I'm pretty sure that he does the same crazy solo-lines all over the place even on the record but you can't really tell. The demo is great! Somehow I like the Majesty bass-sound though. It cuts through very well and sounds alot like drums, it's very percussive and you can't really tell what's bass and what's bass-drums. But from all this you must say that even I&W is a huge leap forward bass-wise, and then Awake!

#4: New King Crimson album: THRAK. It's great, features the double-trio, very heavy at times, very beautiful at times, and very good all of the time. I strongly recommend it to all of you. Not solo-onanist music, virtuoso group-playing!

#5: Anyone with info on the current status of Kevin Moore? I know a lot of people have got his demos, but that was some while ago. Has he got a complete band together, has he got a record deal yet? Do anyone know if he'll tour when his album is done and released?

#6: A very happy birthday to MIKE PORTNOY! (28?) Sorry I didn't post at the right date!

#7: ED POLZIN, great, great WWW-page. There's a LOT of stuff on that page but unfortunately I have a hard time getting a connection. And when I finally got connected and loaded the sound-samples, the download aborted after a while. I figured that I should be able to play the sound anyway but all I got was buzz. Ok, I run a Mac and the sounds were in .WAV format but I'm usually able to play .WAVs anyway. Could anyone recommend a good .WAV-player for Mac, and what parameters to use while playing Ed's files. I'm dying to hear the boot-version snippet of LTL.

#8: I'm setting up a small MIND FUNK home page, but I haven't got that much info on them. Anyone with info on them, their current status etc, please EMAIL ME PRIVATELY! The page should be up and running in a couple of weeks.

    That's all folks!

    /Mats

I really don't think Mike uses these. I've attempted using them when play with my band and they broke right away. So for any of you drummers who want to be like Mike, don't freakin' use these. The stix I use cost a little more ($40), but they're worth it. They are Eastons new aluminium stix with the replacable plastic sleeve. I recomend you buy them! As it turns out the person interested in buying it has backed off (I really don't think that I was able to let it go just yet either). I guess that it's just meant to sit in the closet for a few more years (ha ha). Take care. -BABS

PS This may seem weird, but a psychic told me a little while ago that I would be contacted by a guy named Adam. Pretty wild eh? I thought that maybe the name Adam was more symbolic (i.e. first man), but you never know. Just a little useless f--cking information for you all, like any of you are interested in this.

"To Live Forever" has direct quotes taking right out of the book, _Catch-22_ by Joseph Heller. I had always thought TLF to be a sort of anti-war song, and now finding some quotes out of the _Catch-22_ novel, it gives the theory some credibility. Anyway, here's the quotes and page numbers from the book that you're probably all waiting for. :)

"His prices were high, for failure often did not come easily. He had to start at the top and work his way down, and with sympathetic friends in Washington, losing money was no simple matter. It took months of hard work and careful misplanning." -- p. 22

"Yossarian was a lead bombardier who had been demoted because he no longer gave a damn whether he missed or not. He had decided to live forever or die in the attempt, and his only mission each time he went up was to come down alive." -- p. 24

"But no, it wasn't, and they sent this guy around just to make sure I really did have one leg amputated at the hip and was helplessly bedridden with incurable rheumatoid arthritis. Yossarian, we live in an age of distrust and deteriorating spiritual values. It's a terrible thing," Doc Daneeka protested in a voice quavering with strong emotion. "It's a terrible thing when even the word of a licensed physician is suspected by the country he loves."" -- p. 35

These were all the quotes I could find. There may be more (possibly more indirect) quotes or paraphrasings later in the book, but I couldn't find any.

And about the book, it is very good and very funny and very long. It's 455 pages in dictionary print! I would advise not reading it all in one day as I had to for school. :)

It's been made into a movie of the same name, too, if that's more to your liking than reading a 455 page novel.

The CDs come with two albums contained on one CD so they're a decent buy. Send Ranjit some email if you want to find out if he still sells them. Yes, Andy LaRoque is STILL with King Diamond. His lead-guitar work Death's "Individual Thought Patterns" was only a guest spot.

Anyway, for anyone interested, it is this Sunday night at 9pm. I heard tickets are like $15 I think. I may go there, not sure.... Lemme know if any of you are thinking of going.

So what do DT and HCJ have in common? ...Not much except for incredible musical talent! I just got back from an EXCELLENT performance by Mr. Connick and his *Funk* Band. It is absolutely amazing how many different styles of music this guy can play! He has more music flowing through him than the state of Indiana. (Really!)

Anyway, all through the concert I keeped imagining none other than DT rocking away on the stage. As the show progressed, so did an itch inside of me. This itch is now full blown and is EAGERLY awaiting a DT concert! However, being the paranoid person that I am, I fear that I will miss the announcement of any tour dates just as I did the last two years. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! Soon I will lose my only access to computerized civilization as I am herded back to small town Hell! Please, please, PLEASE announce those tour dates!!!!!!!!

.....sorry for the waste of resource, but I had to vent.

I played with Hotsticks the first year I started playing drums. I thought they were so cool because of their color (I was partial to orange myself). But I soon found that not only are they shitty sticks (ie. they break easily) but they leave traces of whatever color they are around the edges of your cymblas. Since Mike P. has a Sabian endorsement, I'm sure he's not that concerned with maintaining his cymbals' appearance. But I definitely would NOT recommend them to those of us not endorsed by a cymbal co. But they looked cool, dammit.

P.S. I would recommend either Pro-Mark Naturals or Rimshots, both of which are without laquer.

P.P.S. I was in a CD store and actually saw the I&W Tab Book. Just thought I'd let all of you doubters know that it does actually exist.
