First of all, I just thought I'd point out another DT/Maiden
connection. I can't remember the name of the song, but there was a song on
the Majesty Demos (anyone willing to make a copy for me?) that had some
pretty strong references to the classic sci-fi novel "Dune," by Frank
Herbert (another case of the book being much better than the movie). "To
Tame a Land," by Maiden is taken from the same book. Did someone mention
that they would like to hear DT cover this tune? I can;t remember, but that
    would sound cool nonetheless.
Also, what exactly is the Back Pain jam? I have a copy of
Subconscious (taped copy), and couldn't tell what was being said in the
background. If anyone can answer this for me, it would be helpful (and I
believe someone said they were at the show where it originated, so I'm sure
    they could help).
Oh, BTW, I'm your basic American caucasian. I do have
Scotch/English/Irish/French roots. It seems that DT does have a rather wide
appeal when it comes to ethnic groups and such. That's totally cool.
Anyway, please let me know about this stuff. I really appreciate
it. Thanks in advance. God bless.

I thought the sound at the Prov. Show absolutely ruled! I had earplugs
(too) and everything was crystal clear... One of my friends didn't have
earplugs and thought it was perfectly clear (until after the show where
*nothing* was clear..heh)... I was about 4th row (equivalent) standing in
the middle... I second that motion for tall people to let us short folk in
    front!

I just read a transcript of an IRC interview with MP and JM last
night on one of the great DT web pages. In it, MP (I think) mentioned one
time when DT covered IM's "The Trooper" on a radio jam broadcast in
Indianapolis. If anyone has this, would you PLEASE copy it for me. I would
    really like to hear this.
Also, about the long songs (old thread, I know), two more I thought
of are "Trilogy of Knpwledge," by Believer on the album Dimensions (I'm not
sure how long it is exactly, but it takes up the entire side 2 of the tape)
and the classic heavy acid rock tune "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," by Iron
Butterfly, which clocks in at 17:05 (approx.) on the studio version, and
something like 19:00 on the live album. I'd say that classifies as long.
Oh yeah, another Maiden tune, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," which is
    somewhere around 13:00.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I would have been flogged for flaming
that guy. Normally, I'm just easy going but this guy really
    got me. :D

I only posted the RFE stuff for people who might have been interested.
If RFE was going to get people in trouble by using it, I wouldn't
have posted about it. I'm a sys-admin and I know what it is like when
users run amuck with stuff. I saw that this wasn't detrimental to the
system (or network) so I went ahead and posted it. I wouldn't want anyone
on the YJ to get into unnecessary trouble. :D

People on this list are generally competent in that they talk about.
Be it music, philosophy, computers, whatever. I just thought that this
guy just capped off and didn't have any concrete proof to back up what
he had to say. And he directed it in a nasty way at me. I don't go around
spouting off about recording techniques, time changes in the Mirror, etc,
stuff I have no real knowledge about. It would have been wrong for me
to say, *Hey Hairball, I think your friggin' nuts to boost the 100Hz
gain to really bring in the lows. I think you should just cut the
highs. That's what I did on my Kraco car stereo and it works fine.
You soundheads are the reason why DAT prices are the way they are.*
See what I mean? That's what irritated me. :)

To support another thread that has been going around on the YJ:

17" neck, 46" chest, 34" waist, 39" butt, black hair, brown eyes,
olive skin, likes long walks on the beach, computers and weightlifting
....ooops! That was a little too much information! Ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!! :D

Enough of me wasting your bandwidth!

    Take care,

    howdy folx,
it's been a couple of weeks since i posted. last week was not a good week
for me and this one hasn't been any better. i missed Marrillion, echolyn
and Primus last week. then to find out DT's not gonna tour for
    aCoS...life sux right now!

    anyway, tBFKaYJ (the bot
formerly known as YtseJam) on the IRC channel #ytsejam is more or less
dead; as is my connection to the rest of the world from work. so if
nuggetman wants to take ovr: it's yers. i still have all the info of the
ppl who came on and will gladly pass it on to the new bot-owner.

DT in Giant: first off, Giant is a local chain of grocery stores here in
the Wash DC metro area. anywa, i was getting stuff for dinner last nite
when all of a sudden i hear a rather large longhaired-redneck burst into
PMU. at first i dint know why he was singing until he pointed at my DT
shirt from the Pier6 show in Baltimore. he smiled and said something like
"awesome!" then contiuned down the isle singing to himself. just thought
    i'd pass that along :)

speaking of shirts, does anybody have a list of all the DT shirts,
    official and unofficial?

While I answered this note via email, I thought I'd address this part
publicly for the benefit of the Jam as well: I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO
WITH THE FAN CLUB! This is entirely a result of *my own* efforts for the

the band history included with the fan club merchandise about not being
affiliated with any other organization bearing the DT name was in reference

Ian Haugland, who was in the once-popular commercial rock band Europe many
moons ago, is also a lefty. I think he's back in his original band, Trilogy

Win 95 blows OS/2 out of the water!
Plus, if you don't like it, all you have to do is delete it.
Unlike OS/2 where it re-partitions the HD...you must do a low-level format to
    dump it.

Anyways, back to the DT please...

Well, I don't exactly know what your definition of ethnicity is (some people
say it's color, religion, or nationality...I dunno), but here goes:

I'm white, of Polish, Russian, some British, and my last name's German,
descent. I'm American, born Jewish but don't practice.

Hey, that spawns another interesteing question: How many religions are
represented here? It's interesting because DT, while not a "christian
band," per se, (not like Stryper [hehe] or even Galactic Cowboys[who I do
like, even though they're anti-choice (OH NO!! PC-ISM!!!), anyway),
has lots of religious (or is it spiritual?) imagery.
    For some reason, I
don't feel left out, though -- I still appreciate the images. How many
other non-Christians, or non-religious people feel the same way?

    Hmmm (getting too philosophical),

Have you ever heard of 'stride piano'? It's a kind of piano-
playing dominated almost entirely by the left hand. If I recall
correctly, it's sort of jazzy/rock sort of stuff. Then there's
Ravel's piano concerto for the left hand, which, if I recall
correctly, was not so much written for a left-handed pianist,
but for a one-handed pianist. Then there's Bach. In creating
counterpoint, he forced his keyboardists to be equally good in
the left hand as the right. But I would never say that being
left handed is an advantage in the world of music.

I think I'd like to hear more instrumentals from Dream Theater.
I mean songs that were written as instrumentals, not songs
played solely by instruments. Any one feel the same way??

    As for ethnicity, I am 1/4 Japanese-American, 1/4 Okinawan-
    American, 1/4 Scottish-American, 1/4 mixed white-American.
Born in Scotland raised in SF.

First of all ECHOLYN has been released on Sony 550 not Epic.

Second what the hell is the big medley, that is going to appear on the
Change of Seasons EP. It better be the Steve Howe stuff, because if that
album has no Yes stuff on it I'm going to be majorly pissed off.

Third talk about being pissed off, WhO the FUCK cares about the word FUCK
God Damn it. Just leave it in the SONG.

    Later,

One last point. I know someone who set up his system so that when the PC
wqs initially turned on, he was asked whether he wanted to run Windows,
OS2, or DOS. I'm not sure what he did, but I saw it work so I know it's
    possible.

i'm almost exactly the same...my dad was born in Russia (but lived in
Poland)...his family is Jewish...my mom was Polish from a Catholic family.
I was born in Poland, and moved to canada when i was 10.
    I have no religious beliefs.
and my last name could be either Jewish or German :)

i don't mind the references at all...i love Eve with samples for example.
as long as it's not blatant preaching, then it's ok with me.

There were two power outages last night--the second one happened while the mailing list server was processing requests. If your request is not acknowledged in the next 4 hours, please resubmit your request.

(No posts to lists should have been lost. But if you think yours is lost, email kbibb@arastar.com tomorrow and I will verify if it made it into the appropriate digest.)

Sorry for the inconvenience. The power will, hopefully, return to reliability.
