I don't think that's a very good idea. A few days ago when I was busy being
really pissed at the whole world, maybe, but I realize now that that's not
the way to go. My state of mind from the incident to now:
The Incident:
Man. I HATE Nuggetman! He should be shot
Five minutes later:
Crap! I can't believe I did that! I was wrong. I screwed up. I have to
unsubscribe.
The next day:
Waita minute...I was the one that was right! I think I'll resubscribe and
start being pissed again.
The next day:
Man! I go to IRC to mend things with Nuggetman and he BANS me again! A tad
bit pissed, but mostl wanting to fix things and forget it.
Now:
The same, but confused as to what exactly Nuggetman is trying to do. Augie,
Aurora and I get banned from #ytsejam by two bots on a regular basis.
Nuggetman creates a Dream Theater server...yet I can't figure out what good
that'll do. In IRC, you can create any chat room you want, whenever you
want. What good will a server do?
BTW, I listened to FW's Inside Out last night for the first time in a while,
because I didn't like it. Boy, was I an idiot. It is GREAT. I think the
thing that turned me off was that the singer stays on the same 5 notes
throughout alot of the album. With the exception of The Strand. Mark Zonder
is a god. I would say he is better than MP, but then my face turns red and
I start to feel all guilty. Maybe that will change in time, for I used to
think Lars Ulrich was a god. Now I am convinced that Metallica would be
better off with ME as their drummer. But I doubt that I will ever think
that about Mike Portnoy. I'd like to hear a Mark Zonder solo right next to
a Mike Portnoy solo, then maybe I'd decide.
When MP said that none of his songs were really hard, I understand
what he means. I can play stuff that makes some people I know say "WHOA!",
but it's not hard to me. Once I get it, it's easy. Like you never forget
how to ride a bike. Whoa. That was a long one. Cool. It's my birthday on
December 20. Do I get a cyber Ytse-Present? :-) Seeeya. BTW, I am praying
to the God that I don't know is there or not that I get a double bass drum
pedal.

uh, I hate to break it to you, but Zonder didn't play on No Exit...that was
Steve Zimmermann.
I still agree that Zonder is "better" (whatever that means, bring on the
flames!) but in a
technical way. Hey, let me add a "IMHO" here to avoid the backlash, because
we all know
that since this is the DT list, they *have* to be the best at everything...

Hello everyone,
I wanted to thanks everyone for their orders, response has been really good. I'm trying to get to everyone as quick as I can, but I unexpectedly ended up in the hopital on tues. afternoon and wasn't able to talk my Dr. into letting me out until this morn (thurs.). I won't bore anyone with the details, but I have to go see him again this afternoon and there's a chance I may have to go back in, so I wanted to get out as much as I could before this afternoon. These are the people I'm sending out tapes for today. Jason Skewes Ben Gateno Conrad Chi Brian Anderson Sean Haider
For the rest of you that have sent me money, I will hopefully be able to resume dubbing this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest. That's it for now. Take care.

I saw someone post about EVERON. I said this a few months ago, but I suggest that EVERYONE on this list get a hold of their newest release, "FLOOD." They are absolutely incredible; not nearly as technical as DT, but just so amazingly melodic!
Oh, and for those curious about the Shadow Gallery that has been posted about, I'll back up the messages by saying it's REAL good. BUT, it's a very inconsistant album. They have passages that will be as technical, if not MORE, than DT; then, the following part will be very 80's cheese-metal-like. The songs are really good and the album is VERY progressive, but just not consistant. Put it this way, it didn't hit me like "Images" did or the EVeron CD did. Check 'em out.....
Sorry about the non-DT. Later.....

BZZZZT! Wrong answer. Thank you for playing though! Expecting to explain/study supernatural (metaphysical) phenomena using naturalistic (scientific) methods is impossible [by definition, you see]. Unless, of course, you explain this problem away by stating that any metaphysical questions are, because they are "outside" the realm of science, *meaningless*. That's why I've never unsubscribed after going through numerous downtimes on the 'jam. (I do admit that the endless ACOS and the BM threads were the worst we've seen) I think of a lot of the people here as friends, even though I've only met less than 10 of you in person. Hi. Maybe my email works after all. . . . Or maybe Ken is just an awesome admin, having fixed one half of my arastar probs (or a third, make that, since I haven't gotten reply from the listserv for the sylvian list). Whatever, here's a post.
Just For The Record, Steve Zimmerman drummed on NO EXIT. I like Zonder more (well, on Perfect Symmetry ... then the music got non-drum-intensive).
And the answer to my last lyric quiz (don't worry about it, no one got it) was "Moving Waves" by Focus. Great band--a quartet with drum, bass, guitar, and keyboard/flute great playing and long songs on MOVING WAVES and III.
Now, another quiz testing the boundaries of the ytsejam (or rather, just showing where the readership does or, more often, doesn't reach):
"Now my wallet's getting thinner like the hair on my head By the time I hit the 'Big-Time' I'll be buried and dead Tell me how can you resent me for the money I've spent On the only habit I indulge (that's paying the rent)"

============================================================================ YtseCon II Update -- GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!! ============================================================================
Yesterday I finally got tired of waiting for the band to get in touch w/ us and decided to contact their management. I called Don Douglas (In all honesty, I am not really sure what his position is with them. He is not the official contact for this type of thing, but worked w/ Babs on YtseCon I and still works with DT, just with a different title, I think)(anyway) and told him about the YtseCon. He asked if Babs was working on it this year. I told him that it was the same type of thing as last year, but this year I was heading it up. We talked about some of the details (place, time, # of people, ect) and he told me to fax him a formal invitation for the band. They were having a band meeting later that afternoon and he could bring ask them about it then. The only possible problem that he knew about then was that their sound check would probably interfere with the times (5:00-7:00) we had initially planned it for. I told him we were flexible and to have them suggest a time which would be most convenient. So I typed up an invitation (which made me like 30 mins late for class) and faxed it to them. Here it is. (but before you read) I hope I have reflected the general feelings and ideas of the Jam concerning the YtseCon I & II in the following letter...
========================================================================= Dream Theater and Management,
Last year you attended an event organized by Barb Battaglia and the Online Ytsejammers to announce and present your newest release, A Change of Seasons. This YtseCon, as it was termed, was a great success in the eyes of some of your most devoted fans. In light of this, we have organized another YtseCon scheduled to take place on Dec 28th, at the Holiday Inn in Rockville Centre, New York. This is about 10-15 minutes away from your performance that night at the Malibu Club in Lido Beach. On behalf of all 1000 of the Ytsejammers, I extend an invitation, to as many of you as can, to attend the YtseCon II. So far, we have collected 65 names of individuals, mostly Ytsejammers, who will be attending the concert that night and will also attend YtseCon II. The event was initially planned to occur between 5:00 and 7:00pm but I have become aware that this time may conflict with your sound check. So I am also inquiring on a time that may work out better, such as possibly after the concert. I am afraid that if it is scheduled too much earlier than 5:00 pm, many people will be unable to attend due to work and not getting in town yet, for the many of us who are travelling. We also have YtseCon II T-shirts, stamps, and stickers ready to be made if you will be in attendance. On behalf of the Ytsejammers, I hope that you can attend YtseCon II. We are a huge and devoted fan base who would be thrilled to share intellectual but informal conversation with you. I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Trey Allen and The Ytsejammers
===========================================================================
Today I got a call back from Don Douglas saying that he is working on getting the sound check pushed back even more but, tentatively, DT (I didn't ask but assumed all of them) will be able to attend YtseCon II from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. He apologized for it being only an hour but said he would call back in a couple of days and try to get them some more free time.
SO PEOPLE...GET OFF WORK EARLY, LEAVE FOR NY THE DAY BEFORE, AND BE SURE YOUR PLANE ISN'T DELAYED CAUSE YOU BETTER BE THERE!!! DT IS COMING TO TOWN!!! (wait that is Santa... oh well...) ----------------------
- So now what do we do? Well we can begin by sending me some $$. I am just a poor college student with a lot of ambition and love for Dream Theater who must, within days, make commitments with Hotels, Screen Printers, and Print Shops of large sums of money. I am still waiting for the exact holding fee of the banquet room, but it will probably be a little more than half of the total sum, so somewhere around $200. The T-shirts also require a half of total payment up front. This will probably be close to $200 ($400 total). I am having some cool Majesty stickers and YtseCon II name tags made that will be about $40 total and Mike Bradley is getting two DT stamps made to stamp hands at the door. All in all, we're looking at a fair sum of money for me to reach into my already empty (even more after Christmas) pocket and hand over.
----But never fear my friends!! For I, Sir T-Stretch Allen, have devised a plan to facilitate our financial situation!---
Since the Con will half to be moved back to around 4:00 pm to maybe 6:00 or 6:30, I propose that we rent the hall and eat dinner afterwards. I will, Digit-ally, (if you know what...or...who I mean :) find some type of sit down fast food joint, very close to Malibu, that we can, after the Con, all go to with a purpose to eat, converse, and then head to the show as a massive Ytse-crazy-yell'n-scream'n bunch of Internet freaks! Sound good? :)
Since, out of what I received, was a near unanimous vote for option #4, we will implement that one. This means that, at a price of --$15--, the YtseCon II ticket will include, a killer YtseCon II T-Shirt, a cool (never before seen!!!) DT sticker, a special Ytse-name-tag (to treasure forever), a cool DT stamp on your hand, a glass of water, and the...(drum role please :)...opportunity to spend at least an hour with the god-like member of --DREAM THEATER-- !!!!!!!!! ----------------------
So if your name is on the list below, you owe me $15. (wish it was actually going to me! :) Like I said before, time is of the essence majorly, so --PLEASE AS SOON AS YOU CAN, SEND ME $15!!!!!!-- If you, for some reason, can't get it to me -before- the Con, you can pay -$16- at the door. (Yes, I put a $1 dollar sur-charge cause everyone else had to pay for postage and a little extra time and trouble) BUT PLEASE, AS MANY OF YOU AS CAN, SEND ME YOUR $15 TODAY!!! Also, if you pay before Saturday, Dec 16th, you will receive a bonus - special DT gift that you will surely love!
Send check, money order or VERY well concealed cash (see note below) to:
Trey Allen 453 Tahitian Terrace Jacksonville, Fl 32216
(note: I take no responsibility in lost cash in the mail cause I've had it happen to me twice. So I'm just warning you...) -------------------------- RECAP
The YtseCon II is at the Holiday Inn in Rockville Centre, NY (15 mins from Malibu) at 4:00pm- approx 6:15. Dream Theater will be there from 4:30 to 5:30 (as of now). We will then go to the a fast food place close to Malibu to all eat together and then head to the show! The cost of $15 ($16 at door) covers, the banquet hall rental, T-shirt, sticker, glass of water, meeting the band, getting their autographs, and a DT surprise for those who pay before Saturday the 16th of Dec.
I think that is about everything. Digital Man is doing YtseMaps for directions to the Con -> food joint -> concert. So they will be out soon. Once again IF YOUR NAME IS ON THE LIST AND YOU ARE NOT GOING, PLEASE LET -ME- KNOW! Like wise, if you are going, and its not on the list, mail me also and...
Keep your eyes out for further updates and remember, "I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous!"
----SEND ME $15 TOMORROW!!!!!-----
P.S. - I thought it was funny that Euodora's spell checker suggests "typesetter" when it comes across the word "ytsejammer"! :) ============================================================================

A few things that caught my eye...

Yes, it was amusing. But I'm sure that I'm not the only person that's going to respond to this. However, rather than flame you outright, I have a suggestion:
I'm sure we all have tons of this stuff lying around our mail directories somewhere. If you're looking for a place to unload it, how about this: Send a small message to the effect of "I have this funny Star Wars thing. If you want me to send it to you, e-mail me." Much less bandwidth wasted, much less aggravation, much more DTC per Jam!

Eric - First, it's nice to finally be able to read what you type. :) I think I went a little apeshit on you in Jam 1187. Please forgive me. If you didn't want to create the bot in the first place, however, why did you? And, by the way, come over to #ytsejam and chat sometime. No hard feelings?

Michael- Do you seriously base your belief in God on a wager? A hunch that the afterlife awaits? If I were to devote my life to a belief in something, I'd make damn sure that there were good reasons for it first.
Besides, it sounds really boring to have to spend an eternity in a perfect existence. Think of how boring the Jam would be if we all agreed on everything! :)
And that concludes today's sermon. Oh yeah, throw a few IMHO's around in there. -Chris

Aha, I see. To you it was "baby"sitting. This explains much.
Folks, if Nuggetman is no longer "babysitting" #ytsejam then this means the bot "Ytsejam" will no longer be present to hold the channel open. (Most frequenters of the channel would agree this is not a Bad Thing.) BUT.....this will also mean the channel won't show up if you check for it and no-one else has gotten there. DON'T DESPAIR. Just type /join #ytsejam or instruct your IRC program to do the equivalent. Then, assuming no-one else is there already, just wait around until someone shows up. In the evening hours (US Eastern time), this seldom takes more than 20 minutes.
If you join #ytsejam and there's someone else there, but they don't say hello right away, don't leave in a snit: they might be talking to other channels and didn't notice you, or they might have stepped away for a bit.
IRC tips and hints: if you make sure to /set novice off you can join more than one channel at a time. Just type /join <#channel> and you'll be talking to that channel. You can type successive /joins and be on several channels. (#guitar is popular with some, and Rush fans all knmow about #p/g! and RushServe.)
Type /leave * to leave the channel you're in, and /leave <#channel> to leave a channel you aren't currently talking to. (It's a good idea to alias these commands for quickness: /alias jy join #ytsejam allows you to join #ytsejam by simply typing /jy ).
If you get onto IRC and you note a lack of activity, check to see if you're on Undernet IRC. Type /whois <your-nickname> to see which server you're on; if it includes "undernet" you're probably in trouble. :)
If you look at a channel's participants (/who *) and a "G" appears next to their name, they have used the /away <comment> command to flag themselves as being away. You can see their comment explaining why by sending them a /msg or by typing /whois <their_nick> . The G stands for G)one.
Above all, be patient if no-one else is there in #ytsejam, and try to wait a while. Many of us are new at this and these things take time. It took the Rush fans in #p/g! years to build up a close-knit group, but it took hold, and I've made two interstate trips to see concerts -- including DT in Detroit -- thanks to #p/g!.
