Yeah... it's the same keyboard track... all they did was remix the song
and layed down some solo tracks...

Ack! Some DT content.
I was thinking about this recently. People are always asking your favorite guitar solo. I always had a hard time thinking of one then I relised that I didn't have one. From anyone. I don't even have a favorite guitarist! I thought about it because someone asked me who my favorite was. That, like my fav guitar solo, depends on what I was just listening to. Like I was listening to Voices a couple days ago and the solo on that is fantastic. I really loved it. But the whole song is terrific. For some reason (maybe because I'm a bass player) I have favorite bassists and drummers but nothing else. I doubt that there is a song that I would like because of the guitar solo just like I wouldn't like a song merely for the lyrics. Anyone else like that? Am I a freak?

I thought this was interesting. Last night I was at a Greek wedding. The band played a couple of tunes that were in 5/4. This is all folk-type circle dancing stuff which is one reason I thought it was so neat. You know, there are dance steps to it and everything. And no one flipped because it was in an odd time ;). I guess it was progressive-folk.

Marc,
How can you say that Steve Zimmerman is better than both Portnoy and Zonder? I don't know if you were joking or something, but it sure sounded like you were serious. I just went back and listened to some earlier Fates, and I can't see a connection between his playing and what you said. I mean, he has a couple of interesting fills now and then, yes he's a busy drummer sometimes, but that's it. I don't see how anyone could think he's better than MP, no way.

For all the people who want to see the actual DREAM THEATER, there is a picture of it in the new GUITAR magazine. Petrucci is doing an ad for Ibanez modeling his custom guitar. I think this is the theater in Monterey.
A little story from the Awake tour in S.F.:
During an instrumental (forget which one), some chic throws her bra up on stage. A few minutes later, Labrie comes out and picks it up and says something like: Somebody loose something? It was pretty funny. Just thought you might like to know.
Also, the FAN CLUB still has my money. I sent a postal money order, anybody know how those things work or how I can get my money back?

I just thought I'd add to the recent thread of new progressive bands popping up here and there. We've had Shadow Gallery, Ivanhoe, and a whole slew of others, but I just recently got this incredible album by a band I think you'll all like.
They're called "Dream Theater." They do progressive metal, and supposedly they have three full-length albums and a few other releases out, but I've only been able to find this one "Awake." It's simply incredible. If anyone would like more details about the album, e-mail me for info. Anyone know if CdNow or CdConnection would have more of their material? Does anyone on this list have any of their other albums?
Okay, I know random prog-bands isn't what this mailing list is all about, but if anyone would like to start a Dream Theater thread, it'd be fine by me. Their lyrics alone could provide months of discussion. Oh yeah, speaking of lyrics, Dream Theater makes a few references to religion in a few of their songs, just to keep things relevant with this list.

I am with you Lars. That neo-classical section in the original ACOS absolutely fucking blows me away every time i hear it. It just kicks so much ass its frightening. I also LOVE the way they extend the ending of LTL live. I get goosebumps every time i hear that. On the boot i have, there's some guy in the crowd that yells "HOLY FUCKING SHIT" after its over. The first time i listened to it i was thinking the exact same thing.
DT live show - not just donkeys, how bout lots of animals. Maybe james throughout the show could build an ark for the animals. it would give him something to do during all those instrumental bits. Maybe they could let the ytsejammers from each city theyre playing in come on stage and play tennis or baseball with james. now that would be a stage show.

Pascal's wager has a certain illogical charm. It seems if you believe in ANY religion, then you have a ticket to this lottery. Atheists get no chance and aren't even allowed to participate.

Irony? That would be if atheism was the right choice. Eternal bliss granted by a higher power that the person didn't believe existed.
This is a little-known corollary known as Python's wager.

I would love to know why I am not welcome on the rush #p/g! channel on irc. Everytime I go there, I am ignored or kicked. I don't quite understand it. I usually go by the nickname blind, for obvious reasons if you know me. I cannot understand what I ever did to these people, but I am not very liked there. I want an wxplanation and an opportunity to work things out. As I said, I am sorry that I dragged this here, but it was brought up about #p/g! in the Jam and I feel that I have to resolve this. I know that there are rush fans on the jam and they probably frequent the channel and I want to know what the hell I did.

As for the Susan-Jeremy-whatever-the-Hell-it-is-this-week: Yup, I got scammed. I only lost one tape fortunately. He-she-it was supposed to send me a video.
And for the religious thing, I'm Roman Catholic but practice Byzantine. (figure that one out on your own.) I hold my faith to myself. I feel that my belief is mine. I don't push my beliefs on anyone else. Let the preachers do that. It's their job. I wouldn't want priests telling me how to do UNIX administration... :D I do find it amusing to see how people really "debate" over this. I was once told that if you want to start a heated debate, talk about religion or politics. Hopefully the Ytsejam doesn't turn into something like that. I've been a member of this for a good while; I'd hate to unsub because I don't believe in the YJ anymore... An intelligent debate is one thing but let's not get carried away. OK?
Sorry, Al, I probably won't be able to make your pre-jam show gig. I'll be fighting traffic to get home in order to get to the show. But I do ask one favor: do the right thing and get the tapes out to the people you owe. I know that you have been "indesposed of" in the past, but these people have been patient for a long time.
Well, back into lurker mode.

Religion is certainly related to DT, but folks, There Are Better Venues For Religious Discussions That Aren't Directly Related to DT (via lyrics, etc.) Usenet newgroups, or even email in a pinch. We are starting to lose participants because of the increasingly non-DT noise ratio here, and this is something we dare not encourage.

Hi, it's Kaoru from Japan. These weeks I wasn't able to read 'jam well, so I don't understand well what hapenned with Susan, but... I promised with Susan for a big trading several months ago, and I dubbed her requests. I was trying to send my picks via e-mail to her, but each mail has been returned. I don't know her home address and haven't sent anything, but now I'm confused. there are 10 or more 'jammer waiting for trading with me, and I am going to finish one by one as soon as I can. So, Susan, I couldn't wait more, if you still are interested in fair trading, e-mail me again. At this moment, I'll finish next ones before you. I'm listening to DT tapes to dub everyday when I'm at my apartment. So these days I couldn't listen to another, it's been really DT-days. 8)
DT content from far-east: I read Japanese "Burrn!" magazine's silly DT live report for last October, the writer saids that DT isn't progressive any more, they just try to play as CD, Awake is boring, the extream audience is beyond his understanding, and the live is totally boring. Really stupid report. I thought Burrn! carried good interview on the past, but this time I am disgusted. Japanese 'jammer who read it without going the concert, don't believe it and go to shows in 1997. ;)

Yes , that is a stupid question and this is a stupid answer!!! Basically At Fates Hands has vocals in it , which are simlpy cut off from At Fates Fingers (I mean the whole section is cut off!) - so the Keyboards are unchanged (unless some other keyboardist went there and re-recorded exactly the same keys!!)
Hope that helped!

Dear Ytsejammers,
Next year (March/April 1996) I have the chance to record my (DAT/Cassette) bootlegs on CD, this means that I can make bootleg CD's *exclusively* for the Ytsejam list.
The first one I want to do would be a 1995 show with 'A Change of Seasons'. Why this one? it's only 70 minutes long, Dream Theater wasn't headlining the festival (but it's a FULL show, no cuts!), and because the sound quality is great. And of course because there is no bootleg CD with 'A change of Seasons' yet! A friend of mine recorded it with his portable DAT recorder.
Here's the setlist :
Bospop festival, Weert, Holland, 08/07/95 (outdoors)
Intro Under a Glass Moon Lifting Shadows of a Dream Voices A Change of Seasons Another Day Pull me Under
[encore] 6:00
The booklet will have live shots and other related stuff from this particular festival. I don't have a title for the bootleg yet, so if anyone feels the need to be creative :) he or she will be 'rewarded' with a free copy!
There's only one thing I'm not happy with.....I can't do more than 100 prints the first time, I don't have to money to pay for all of the stuff needed. We students need more money! I will do a re-print if the first 100 are sold out *AND* if there's enough interest in a re-print.
Another reason for making this one is that I don't want to do a double CD set.......yet! I have two great shows from Utrecht, Holland 14/02/95 and 15/02/95 both recorded on DAT. The sound quality is incredible! I think it's as good as 'Wake up!' (the Tokyo PPV show), especially (sp?) John Myung's bass sound.
setlists for these two shows:
14/02/95 Pull Me Under -------- 6:00 Take the Time Caught in a Web (incl. Drum Solo Mike Portnoy) Lifting Shadows of a Dream Guitar Solo John Petrucci (acoustic/electric) Instrumental Jam (A Crack in the Mirror?) The Mirror Lie In the Flesh (Pink Floyd) A Mind Beside Itself I. Erotomania II. Voices III. The Silent Man Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple) Metropolis Part 1
15/02/95 Pull Me Under -------- 6:00 Take the Time Caught in a Web (incl. Drum Solo Mike Portnoy) Lifting Shadows of a Dream Guitar Solo John Petrucci (acoustic/electric) Damage Inc. (Metallica, instrumental) Instrumental Jam (A Crack in the Mirror?) The Mirror Lie Surrounded Instrumental Jam A Mind Beside Itself I. Erotomania II. Voices III. The Silent Man Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (Elton John) Metropolis Part 1
Of course I can only make these bootlegs if there's enough response from YOU. so please e-mail me *privatly* if you're interested in my first bootleg (Bospop, Weert, 08/07/95). I'll be compiling a list (like Mike Bahr does) with the reservations. I *think* that the price will be around $30. I'm not sure at all about the price, I just started adding some figures and came up with this price.
I'm expecting a new DAT recorded bootleg from Nijmegen, Holland. This was (IMO) the best show they did this year (in Holland) with.... 'Innocence Faded' and an acoustic 'Wait for Sleep' both played only once on this year's Euro-tour. So maybe I'll do this one before one of the other dutch (headlining) shows.
Thanks,
