Got songs that I like 'em all?
1- Queensryche, Rage for Order (this one's so wierd, I love it)
2- Pink Floyd, The Wall (I can't bear to skip a track)
3- Journey, Escape (No flames please)
4- Ozzy Osbourne, Bark at the Moon (A classic)
5- Bad Religion, Recipe for Hate (very political)
6- Dream Theater, Images & Words, Awake (I've grown to love 'em all)
7- Gustav Holst, The Planets (Hey, I like this stuff, too)
8- Pearl Jam, Ten
9- Glass Tiger, Diamond Sun
Honorable mentions: All Pink Floyds, all Queensryche's, DT' WDADU
Glass Tiger, The Thin Red Line
These are not listed in any particular order of favoritism.
I like Dream Theater a lot more than I like Journey (well, maybe
not too much nore...)
I think that's all of 'em!

Not so. I've heard that conversions can be done for about $35 around here; I'd
bet it's cheaper elsewhere. Anyway, if 40 people are interested, that defrays
the cost immediately.

This is probably like the third time I'm posting this:
My bandmates (probably ex- if I don't manage to solve this problem)
(they're assholes) have decided that our band is playing a gig the 20th
of Feb, the same day as when DT will play here in Stockholm. They refuse
to cancel the gig so that I can go see the DT-show, and I must therefore
find a way of convincing them to start our gig very early.
I need the following info:
Do the shows usually start on time?
For how long does FW play?
When is DT on?
If I can get this info, I can probably reschedule our gig so that I can
first play and then rush off to se DT (I will probably miss FW though!),
can someone please help me with this!!!
Thanks!

Last night I got to do something I had been waiting a looooong
time to do. I got to host a radio show. It was only our little campus
radio station, but it has been a crusade of mine to educate the student
body here at the University of Portland about the essence of better
music. All year long I have been bombarded with the general run of the
mill garbage music that all too often pollutes our ears.
Last night was diffent however, lastnight was the "Night of
Dreams." I played one full hour of Dream Theater!!!! Now, I know some of
you have been doing this for a while at your own radio stations, but for
me it was special, because it was a chance for me to finally make a
difference in what people listen to. Granted it was a small chance, but
anyway you look at it, it was a chance.
I just had to share this dream turned reality with other
ytsejammers who just might understand what I am talking about.

I'm a bit confused by some of the dub site postings. I was under the impression that, since we (the dub sites) got the tapes essentially "for free" from Jen, that we should not be expecting anything in return. Yet there seem to be some posts implying that the dubbers expect to receive extra blank tapes or other boots in return. I just thought that we should try to be consistent so that me and the other dubbers who don't expect anything but return postage don't get swamped with making all the copies. :)

Hello all, Just yesterday I noticed that someone had made (to my surprise) the first mention of Faith No More I've ever seen on this list (of course, I HAVE only been here since October). I must voice my extremely high opinion of this band! These guys are great! They seemlessly mix elements of metal, prog, jazz, funk, blues, and industrial (among others) into their own very distinctive brand of fantastic music. They can go from heavier songs like "Surprise! You're Dead!" and "Malpractice" to emotionally charged pieces such as "Midnight Cowboy" and "Edge of the World" to bluesy stuff like "RV" and "Zombie Eaters". Most of their stuff mixes all these elements and more. I can't say enough good things about them! I would definitely recommend Faith No More to any Dream Theater fan that's interested in the heavier aspects of DT's music. Incidentally, if you've heard "Epic" (they made a video for it some years back--it had a hand with an eye in it that would open and splash some liquid; it was kind of weird :) and didn't think much of it, be aware that it's one of my least favorite songs on the two albums I have and I still love it! I only have "The Real Thing" and "Angel Dust" (their last 2 albums); I'm thinking about getting their earlier ones, but I've heard they're not worth it, the newer stuff with Mike Patton is much better. Can anyone offer any advice on this? Also, I heard that Jim Martin (guitarist) has left the band; can anyone disprove or confirm this--does anyone know if Faith No More is still together?? I haven't heard anything about them since "Angel Dust" which was nearly 3 years ago... Any info would be appreciated! One last thing: What can anyone tell me about Mr. Bungle, Mike Patton's other band? I want to check them out, too. Thanks! :)
Sorry for the minimal DT content...

I heard from a friend of a friend that DT did a show in Europe made up primarily of cover tunes recently. From what he heard, they did several Rush songs. I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this, and if so, do they know if there is any way to get a recording of the show. I know this is a longshot, but I would love to get my hands on this.

Recently, I've seen a good bit of interest (on several digest lists) in "other progressive bands". Like me, there are many people out there who would like suggestions of progressive bands to try out. Many times these discussions are flamed on digest lists because they contain no information relative to the list's subject. With this in mind, I suggest that we take this subject to one location, and organize it a bit. If you are interested in hearing suggestions about other's taste in progressive, e-mail me info. on some bands that you like (in the following format) and I will compile them and send them out in "digest" form (probably in one week, depending on response).
Include artist name, style (influences, etc.), and recommended recordings (with ratings if you desire).
For example:
Artist: UK
Style:
This is an excellent keyboard driven supergroup from the late 1970's with great talent (Eddie Jobson, John Wetton, Bill Bruford, Allan Holdsworth). Their sound is like a jazzy ELP whith a bit of King Crimson thrown in. The first two albums are a must for prog fans. After the first (self- titled) album, Holdsworth left and Bruford was replaced by Terry Bozzio.
Albums:
UK ****1/2 (out of five) Danger Money ***** Night After Night ***1/2

*ARASTAR's* server has gone insane--it seems to be incrementing by twos instead of by one. Since this is free software that I'm using, these things happen every now and then. (To upgrade costs $2000/year (yes, each year)--I can't afford that.) I'll hopefully be writing a replacement package this summer.

Dear people,
About the UK show (again!), I have got costs for sending a tape and packing to the States and to Europe. For those of you who insist on registered post etc, there is not much point from the UK as whilst it is supposed to be safe and needs a signature on arrival, it is not covered if lost, but the price is still below for those who want this slightly exclusive service!
All prices are in pounds
America : 1.50 (+3.00 extra for registered post; note above warning) Europe : 1.00 (+3.00 extra for registered post; note above warning)
The cost of the tapes I will be using (TDK SF60, Type II) is 2.50 so please add up your relevant costs and send me an international money order for the amount.
I do not really want to trade at this moment in time, thanks though for all the lists I have been sent and they will be filed away for future reference.
Now it's up to you lot to send me your full address, please include post/zip codes. Even if you have said to me you would like a copy before please could you send a letter to me with "Yes rob I want a copy!" in it and the costs you are sending to me, I will delete all requests so far as otherwise it will get confusing, so send me a email with:
Your name & address, amount coming to me.
For the record my address where money should be sent is:
Rob Chinneck 125 Melville Grove, Grove Street, Edge Hill, Liverpool L7 7AD, United Kingdom.
There it is folks I await your replies, and remember to make things simpler I am deleting all requests for tapes so far so do as said above for your copy. Bye for now, Rob

I was just thinking: When something cool happens in the world of DT and someone got a good recording, pictures etc, why don't we present it on some WWW-pages. I'm sure there are several people with WWW-pages and some spare Megs of disk-quota who would be able to do this. For example if someone recorded some stuff from video, radio which is hard for everyone to get hold of, and it is good and stuff that most people would enjoy to hear, I think in some cases it could be arranged so that the songs or pictures were put up on WWW.
I don't know his name, but there's one guy who has put up some good scanned pictures from the last two tours, this is a very good idea. Maybe we can follow his example.
I have just got a regular 10 mb student-account but for the most time I have got at least 6 mb unused that I could use to have samples and other stuff on. I haven't got very much DT-stuff except for some boots and the demos but if I get more stuff I can maybe put up some things. I'm thinking about having one complete song, changed weekly if I have got the time. Y'know, if some people did this, jammers in the forgotten parts of the world (non-USA) could easily hear songs that all you DT-experts talk about, without sending packages all over the world (postage is expensive when you're a student).
Maybe someone has already got lots of stuff uploaded, I just know of the sites with Boot-lists, FAQ etc.
Anyone else with more ideas on this?

I suppose most european Ytsejammers will record this sunday's Headbangers Ball, at least all those with VCRs. (I can't imagine a DT-fan with a VCR and not recording it.)
I will of course record it (assuming that I'm not killed or something like that before Sunday), Stereo HiFi, and I know that a lot of people would want me to send the tape to them, but since I'm an egoistic asshole I want to keep the original recording for myself, unless someone makes me a VERY good offer. However I can make copies but they will not be in stereo and not that HiFi, they're still enjoyable though, I use my two VCRs to copy/edit stuff pretty often.
If I do copy for anyone of you I must have all expenses paid. You send me tape and SASE or postage paid in IRCs or whatever they're called. I will of course do the 'work' for free, (not charge a blank tape per tape copied) but make sure that I won't have to spend any money so that you can have your copy. I cannot at this time trade with bootlegs etc, I'm short of money right now and cannot afford to buy and send tapes etc.
There's probably other people who'll also record the show and are willing to copy/trade, and can make better offers (copies in Stereo), but I wanted to point out that if there isn't anyone else who's willing to copy then I can help if you don't have top-notch-requirements of HifiStereo and superb picture quality.
I will post again on Monday and tell you of the content of the show so that you'll know if you really have to have it.
later...
