Hey all! I finally got me one of them neato multimedia kits, and of
course the first thing I did was download DT interactive from the
archives. When I run it, I get as far as the opening screen and some of
the music, then get an out of memory message, saying that a sprite
couldn't be loaded. I've got 616K of conventional memory free! Is there
some secret handshake to running this?

Hi there, I've been behind on reading the digests, so I didn't see this
    until today.

I'm in Dayton, Ohio. Is anyone near me making copies of the demo?
Let me know via e-mail to keep the traffic off of the list.

    Thanks!

You want it, I got it! All you wonderful midwesterners, just e-mail me here in Wisconsin at:

    larkows3@nes.nersc.gov

and we'll work out some details as to how I can go about getting you your copy.

Most likely, you'll end up sending me a tape and a mailer to return it in, and I send it back with a copy of the lyric sheet.

    Glad to be of service,

Does anyone have the lyrics for these figured out? They're the only two not printed on the lyrics sheet, and they're probably the hardest to figure out.

In the same issue (March 95 Keyboard mag) there is a reader's poll for favorite/best keyboardists in various categories ncluding songwriting, etc. Seems like now would be agreat chance to get Kevin Moore's name back in the limelight!!! You can write in his name for votes. Ytsejammers did a great job getting Dream Theater to top the Guitar Player Reader's Poll, how about a little help for Kevin? Just my thoughts...

Alright, has anyone else noticed, ok maybe everyone has noticed, has anyone elso gotten sick of these ytsejam themes that run for a period of time inversely proportional to their interest? I mean, that least favorite song crap; as someone And now lately the themes have been bands that have some things in in common w/ DT (from what I can understand, it's mostly the hair...) I'll save myself from flames by having faith in you to remember the more extreme of these anoying references... So now that I've bitched about it, let me try a suggestion. I was amused @ the worst song thing, along with the poll, because DT's music cannot be classified like that. I was just listening to In Through the Out Door and Ten, and I was thinking that several of these songs, like I'm Gonna Crawl and Black are great songs. An idea is introduced, a story is told, there are repeats with variations, and as the song goes along, expectations are created and fulfilled. Not to mention a hell of a mood is created. But DT songs, now. Songs like IF, PMU, and Scarred are why I love AND hate DT. As I previously stated, the band consists of 5 virtuosos, which sometimes gets in the way. It seems that for almost every song there is a part I can't stand. Then there are parts that floor me. Can you tell which is which? -Watch the sparrow falling... -Beginnings get complicated... -segue from Eroto to Voices... -guitar solo in Eroto... -guitar solo at end of Scarred(3rd time he's used that lick-look @ PMU solo)... -into to LSOAD... -entire rest of LSOAD... -intro to Scarred

and my favorite DT part ever:in Scarred, someone tell me LaBrie doesn't NAIL the line: Maybe you'll leave me here to BURN!

How about a notice of your little favorite DT moments? (sorry I claimed Watch the Sparrow...-Hey, would't that be a great name for a Boot?) C-ya, Dan KEnny oops. Dan Kenny

You say "616K?" Is that ALL? I would think you need at least 2 MEGs free to run the DT Interactive program comfortably. In fact, it requires 1 meg and would like to have about 4 to run.

And that's all I have to say about that.

well I just saw the covers gig part of this show.. Its still going on actually!! hehe... It was frankly disappointing.. lasted about 2 minutes and had barney from napalm death doing "damage inc".. a tori amos song where james sings REALLY badly.. and some YES coverage with steve howe that was WAY too short... ahh well.. At the moment theres the new QR video for "bridge" which is pretty cool, and theres going to be some more live stuff from Munich...and some stuff on Fates which should be good.. later Ill post details on how to get a copy of the show as Im recording it and will convert it to ntsc for US viewers!! cheers

    Yes,

This is my first post. I just had to get on this one. I'm a big Prog fan. Rush, for me, tops the list and I'm a real big DT fan. To let you know, I was dissapointed with Awake. I loved Images and Words. I was a bit surprised with Awake. It seems to me (I guess I'm in for it) they sold out a bit. The thing that bothers me the most is James' singing. He actually sang through I&W but only has a few moments on Awake. BUT ANYWAY, I've really grown to like the album and the show I saw in October was a big step. Ok, here's my list:

DT: Images and Words Rush: Moving Pictures Billy Joel: The Stranger Queensryche: Operation : Mindcrime Pink Floyd: A Momentary Lapse of Reason Rush: Hemispheres Burning For Buddy (I think it would have been pretty cool if Pornoy played on it)

None of these albums has a song on it which I couldn't listen to repeatedly. Opinions?

Could someone give me some information on the following bands:

    Pendragon Gentle Giant Hawkwind

The information I am looking for mostly pertains to style of music and which albums to start with ...... Thanks Terry

After so much discussion on here about other bands, I felt it was time to do something about it. I know that this is a Dream Theater forum, but a lot has been said about other bands and what they sound like. People have offered their opinion on what they sound like, but one person's treasure is somebody else's annoyance. The only real way to know what a band sounds like is to hear them. So how do you go about hearing some of these bands discussed here in the past? Radio won't play them, MTV won't show them. These bands don't show up in the used CD bins, that's for sure! You could mail-order them, but who wants to pay $15-$20 for something they might not like after actually hearing it? A lot of labels put out samplers of their bands, but most prog music these days is independently released. So I've deceided to make my own "samplers" in order to spread the word about a lot of great bands that get no exposure. I'm going to concentrate on bands you usually can't even get at a retail store. My first sampler is called "Sampler One". Get it? Here's who is on it: ARAGON, CHANDELIER, CITIZEN CAIN, CATHEDRAL, DISCIPLINE, ECHOLYN, FOR ABSENT FRIENDS, JADIS, MAGELLAN, MANTICORE, MASTERMIND, MULTI STORY, NIGHTWINDS & NORTH STAR. A full 90 minutes of progressive music on a High Bias cassette direct from compact disc. The first tape contains mostly Neo-Prgressive bands. If there is a demand for this kind of thing, future tapes will be Progressive Metal, Symphonic, etc. How do you get one of these tapes? Just send cash, check or money order for $5 to Dan Boss, 4102 Glenhaven Dr., Garland, TX, 75042. Please, only U.S. citizens-sorry. Hopefully this will cover my cost of tapes, mailers & postage. I'm certainly not doing this to make money, but to expose people to some great music they normally wouldn't hear and maybe get them to purchase the full length CD.

Can't help you with the first or the last, but I am quite the Giant fan, so here goes my $.02:

According to many people (the GEPR, for one), GG is its own category of music. 99% of all music is in some way derived from other forms and sounds...GG was almost totally unique. They had the trademark 70's artrock intelligence and progressive music, and their stuff is always stimulating.

Depending on your background, I would start with either _Octopus_ or _Power and the Glory_. Choose the latter if you lean more towards shorter, more commercial songs, and the former if you're a true prog-head.

BTW, you've made my day by bringing them up. Thanks!

MTV's HBB was quite dissapointing. They spent a lot of time interviewing the band and showing some 'old' videos, almost no live material however... Here's the list in a nutshell: 1. TtT (vid) 2.Lie (vid) 3. Damage inc. (Metallica) 4. Happiness is a warm gun (Beatles ) with Steve Hogarth! 5. Winter (Tori Amos) 6.Yes medley with Steve Howe 7. Caught in a Web 8. another day (vid) 9. 6:00 10.Silent man

3-7,9,10 live (only parts) (It's not really worth to have a copy in my opinion)

Some facts: 1. Awake sold more than twice at much than I&W in Europe 2. Scarred is James' favorite song (vocally and instr.) 3. Mike will be the director of the new video 'the silent man' (it will become a 'dark' moody video with the front sleeve of Awake as concept) 4. If DT could choose 1 band to tour with it would be Van Halen.

    That's all for now...
