    Dear jammers,

    >>>Hello everyone, it's BABS. I know that I have only been with the list for
a short while, but I am real curious to see how many of you would be
interested in a Ytse convention. I know that some of you will find this
ridiculous, but I think that it would be a lot of fun to get everyone together
so that we can meet and see who we have been writing to. Just think we could
have it centrally located perhaps in the U.S. I don't mean to exclude the
ytse's from other countries - if they can suggest anything feasible just send
me a line. I am asking the females on this list for feedback (since we are
just better at this kind of stuff) on how we could do this. So Michelle,
Jennifer (airdance), Jenny Baer (hope that I spelled your last name right),
Kinga and I know that there are a few more women on the list let me know. I
now some of you just think that this is another excuse for a party, but hat's
so wrong with that (ha ha). P.S. How much do you all wanna bet that the guy
who is also on the Megadeath list is gonna flame me for this? -BABS<<<

This is an awesome idea! Where should it be? Who's gonna organize it? I
think it should be on Long Island ;) It's also something DT themselves would
probably come to. BTW how many NY ytsejammers are here? Long Island?

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

right on! Stern tapes in NY, right? could that also be the reason,
    that dt was on?
    this also got me thinking.
since dt is from the NY area (for the most part), why doesn't some
latenight talkshow ask them to be on...somone like Letterman for
    example? that would be cool...

I am rather new to this list (although love DT since WDADU has been released); a lot of
you mentioned Ytsejam t-shirts in recent posts. Are they still available? $?

can't think outside of 4/4 time, and doesn't like to be challenged by
    what they're listening to.

Again, that's good that you do buy the albums. However, many
people don't bother. They figure, "Hey, i've got this half decent
cassette copy that I can listen to in my walkman or car...why should I
pay money for a CD copy of it?" <shrug>

I'm not against copying demo tapes, etc. Hell, my band's demo (if
we ever get the thing finished) will HOPEFULLY be dubbed & passed around.
(it's hippie music, people - unless you like The Dead, The Allman Bros. &
stuff like that, forget it. <grin>)

Hello ytsejammers, it's Babs. So far the response to my idea about a
convention has been positive. I am still looking for lots of ideas/feedback.
One ytse has suggested the possibility of having a ytsejam trade-show
someplace to get everybody there and if the response is good, warrant a
private show from DT for the ytse's and their significant others. I
wonder if the guys would perform gratis (I know that that is considered a
swear word to some bands, but isn't it for the love of music - not the cash?)
Airdance if you are reading this, what do you think. Kick it over with the
guys, do you think that we could get Kevin to come too? Feedback everyone,
    I need feedback!!!!!!!!!!! :) -BABS

Now, I know this has been brought up before, but wouldn't it be cool
to hear DT preform with a full symphonic orchestra as a back up? I have
Jethro Tull's album "A Classic Case of Tull" and it is one of the better
albums I have. I think DT has the potential to symphonic concert really
well. Just an idea that I have had for a while that I needed to state,
even though it has been stated before.

Oh yeah, I think I should appologize for my sister and her
"Theatre" typo. She is only ten years old everybody. I want to thank all
of those who took the time to correct her and who corrected her with the
class that all true DT fans show. Thanks for not flaming her.

One more thing, does anybody have a copy of the first Ytsejam news
letter saved on their machine? If so would they be willing to forward a
copy to me? I am interested in reading the hot topics of the first few
    jams.

    Hi, fellows
    I'm cured !
Maybe you've noticed that I the last time spent much time talking about
other bands than DT. I thought I was loosing my touch, but since yesterday
everything is back to normal --> DT RULES

This post is going to be rather long I think, so I'll start this way :

    1 FW songlist
    2 FW-sound
    3 DT songlist
    4 DT-show
    5 LaBrie
    6 Derek

If any other ytsejammer were at the CIRKUS, please fill in my blanks and
correct me. This is the things I can remember at this moment

    1 FW
(I know it is incomplete, but I hope it will help someone)
     stay < -perhaps, I couldn't really hear >
    Outside looking in
    11'th hour
    Eye to eye
    Parallells
    Face the fear
    Monument
    ----------------
    2 FW-sound
With all respect to all of you FW-fans: FW sounded catastrofically bad ! At
least in the beginning. We got the explanation that it was because they've
hadn't had time to sondcheck. What that in that case was due to , I don't
know. But I've heard garage-bands sounding better. Later on they did get
some control of the sound, but it was still a bad show, unfortunately
    ---------------
    3 DT
    Pull me (extremely short version)
     Jam < jazzy>
    Pull Me Under
    6:00
    Take the Time
    Lifting Shadows of a Dream
     Jam < spanish-ish >, Derek+Petrucci
     Jam < Gary Moore-ish >, Derek+Petrucci
    Mirror
    Lie
    Caught in a Web
    Damage inc.
     Key-solo < car-racing-ish >
    Surrounded
     Drum-solo
    Erotomania
    Voices
    the Silent Man
     +
    Metropolis
    ---------------
    4 DT-show
Sadly I think that this was DTs *least-wonderful* appearance in Sweden. I
really miss the songs from the first album.
Almost every song had a new start, new solos, new parts, new tempo or
something else different from the albums, and that I LOVE. I think that
    shows their greatness

After the show they ran back to the guys in the front and spent a lot of
time shaking their hands and doing *high-five*. It was a nice thing, I
think. Wish I would had been there, But during the show some guys in the
front jumped and headbanged and pushed so I spent most of the consert in
the middle of the room .

Afterall that's were the sound is the best, and when DT is playing that's
the most importent criteria. By the way; the sound was *again* excellent.
can't figure it out how they can do it so perfect each and every time.

After the show we went back almost as quick as possible. we didn't have any
backstagepasses, and didn't consider the possibility getting to DT
afterwards. So this time I went back whitout Autographs. Unfotunately DT
has grown too BIG to give us that opportunity. ( wish we wouldn't had tell
anyone how great they are.... ;-)>
    ----------------
    5 LaBrie
He was really loosing it at the beginning. The wireless microphone just
went out of order. After a while, trying to get it working, he throw it in
to the wall with full speed, and rushed backstage to get the other. We in
the crowd did of course fill in all the lyrically blanks. After a few lines
the same thing happened to the other mic. ! The song was interrupted, and
the band started playing this jazzy beat.
It was so brilliant. perhaps the best part ever heard of DT. So unMETALish.
Just what you could expect of these guys.

When the jam was over James ReEntered the stage. Some funny words were
spoken, since Petruccis mic. worked allright. And James asked: What have I
done to deserve this ,and: From where I come from you usually need a mic.
to sing. after this they ReStarted PMU.
    ---------------
    6 Derek
He is no Kevin Moore. He is Derek Sheridinan. I think he fits in DT quite
good. If you haven't already seen him, you can stop beeing worried. He is
    really good.
ByTheWay, he and Portnoy have really found each other. During a great deal
of time during the show the had eye-contact and smiled against each other
oftenly. They even had a spit-fight. not that nice. I wonder if the other
    guys really know about that.
I can't remember Derek miss any tone, and that's not bad at all. Still I
remember all the other to do some misstakes, unbelievebly enough.

    All for now
perhaps when I wake up in the morning I'll have more to say

    Hi all,
Off the top of my head, here's some albums on which I really (for the
most part) like every song or come really close:

Claude Bolling: The Picnic Suite (w/ Rampal, Lagoya)
    Black Sabbath: Paranoid
    Corrosion of Conformity: Blind
Dream Theater: When Dream and Day Unite
Faith No More: The Real Thing
    Faith No More: Angel Dust
    Front Line Assembly: Millennium
Infectious Grooves: The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move...
    King Missile: Happy Hour
    KMFDM: Angst
Lard: The Last Temptation of Reid
    Megadeth: Rust In Peace
    Metallica: Master of Puppets
    Metallica: ...And Justice for All
Ministry: The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste
    Joe Satriani: The Extremist
Suicidal Tendencies: How Will I Laugh Tomorrow...
    Suicidal Tendencies: Lights...Camera...Revolution
    Primus: Frizzle Fry
    Type O Negative: Bloody Kisses
    Yanni: Live at the Acropolis

Like I said, this was just off the top of my head, so there's probably a
whole bunch I'm not thinking of. Don't be surprised if I'm back with a
    revised list! :)

pseudo-intellectual types to spout out intellectual poppycock about things
    that are trivial.

furthermore, i have noticed a movement on this list which praises mediocre
material (i.e. bon jovi, extreme, and van halen) with no relation to DT
while talented musicians nlike cynic, thought industry and others
    remain conveniently ignored.

third, there is a tendency to "ride the bandwagon" in regard to new material
related to DT. for example, _Awake_ is the ultimate in generic progressive
metal and the kevin moore demos truly eat it, yet these sheep praise them
endlessly just like they were "the emperor's new clothes." god forbid
that anyone should bring up any topic which portays these prog-metal gods
in a bad light. I am not afraid to say that these are shitty pieces of music
    because it is truth.

you all have failed the human litmus test. i hate you and i hope die.

Yeah, and DT got FW back in their liners. They gave special thanks to
Fatez Warning (I&W I think). Check it out ;)

You blew it Chuck. These two are way down on the list of Yes albums.
When you wake up, go buy Close To The Edge or Relayer

These two are some of their worst... most older stuff is better, try the
3 albums Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans, and Relayer.
All 3 are great, Tales being a 2CD set that only has 4 songs on it each
being around 20 minutes. Really awesome stuff.

To which DT responded by putting Fatez Warning (Just kiddin!) in the IAW
    linear notes. Funny...

I'm sure he's only joking, in a sort of "Free Willy" sort of way.
Or perhaps he thinks Tyson was framed and/or didn't do those terrible
things.. who knows for sure... ? I know I would not condone such acts,
and if a friend of mine was wrongly accused of them... I would say so...

Hello!! This is my first time posting (hope it works)

Here I come with some questions...

-Where can I get the DT INTERACTIVE, I've tried from ftp.netcom.com, but
    couldn't, can somebody help me????

-I've heard so many good things about Fates Warning, but I've never listen
to them, so if I like MARILLION, DREAM THEATER, CAMEL, YES, and similar
bands which recording of FW do you recommend?

-Is there a dub site arround here (MEXICO CITY)??

                                            Thanks guys!!!!

Actually, Mike P's a huge boxing fan. Notice during the I&W LiT video,
when they're showing "The condoms of Dream Theater" that the rest of the
band picks out the boxing glove condom for Mike.

Also, I've seen pictures of him in magazines wearing a t-shirt for the
Holyfield vs. Tyson fight, which we all know, did not come to be.

You could say that :) So far:

            6:00 (Dubliners "The Dead")
Eve (Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man)
            Nora (possibly about Nora Joyce?)

Kate Bush's "The Sensual World" is also Joyce-oriented (the end of "Ulysses").

yeah, last fall when they came out of commercial, Howard said "Now that rocks!" or something like that. so Fred let "the Mirror" play a bit more. Howard couldn't listen past the keyboards and complained that they should get rid of the keyboardist and then they'd be pretty good. course, this flipped me out cuz i'd just heard that Kevin had left 2 days before! Howard also said the intro was too long; he din't even let it play into the opening lyrics -- i would have liked to hear what he had to say about James :)
