Buy all of the Fates Warning albums in this order:

    Perfect Symmetry
    Parallels
    Inside Out
    No Exit
    Awaken The Guardian
    The Spectre Within

Night On Brocken (this album isn't a "must have")

I am also a huge Crimson fan. King Crimson is entering into their fourth
wave of sound. The first era includes the albums: In The Court Of The
Crimson King, In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard, and Islands.
The second KC era involves John Wetton (U.K., and Asia): Larks' Tongues
In Aspic, Starless And Bible Black, and Red.
The third era involves Adrian Belew (of Zappa fame) - albums are:
Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair.
The newest KC incarnation sound like a combination of Red and Discipline.
The new EP is called VROOOM. Awesome stuff!

Anyway, I'm through... I have approximately. 500 CDs, so my list would take up
an entire digest. There is a lot of great music out there...

I am also on the Megadeth Mailing List and I personally think that it
is ridiculous that they have an "only talk about Megadeth" rule.
How much is there that can be said about one band?? I like the
discussions on here and I have learned a lot about other bands.
Yes, we are here to talk about Dream Theater, but we also must
realize that there are other bands out there that are worth
    discussing.

    Just my opinion -

You like Psychotic Waltz also? Cool! I live in San Diego, Ca. which is where PW is based and I have been a fan of them since they were known as "Aslan". I've got some older demos of them that are really cool. Norman the drummer works at a rare rock record store here in SD and I run into him often, his parents also run an authentic italian pizza and deli in El Cajon, Ca. which PW used to practice at in a studio behind the shop (I don't know if they still practice there or not), If anyone reading this lives in SD near El Cajon try Leggio's pizza, It is by far the best pizza I've ever had. Later.

Anyone never hearing of Psychotic Waltz they are in the Fates Warning line of Heavy Metal and their new cd is called "Mosquito" and it kicks ass.

Well just a few comments to keep with my trend of one really long post once a week or so, I'm afraid I started all of this related music postings and though interesting I meant to keep it small (that's why I only posted five bands (I enjoy more than 300, now that would be a fun list <grin>). Onward....

Thanks again to Kevin Moore and Jen for letting us in on what Kevin has in store for the Dream Theater fans who are following his solo career. Kevin's writing ability in Dream Theater will be sorely missed as evidenced by the number of people on here who thought Space Dye Vest was the most powerful song on Awake.

Big Brother on the net. I hve noticed that the major problem with these servers are the subscription requests that get into the digest, and all of the problem with excessive quoting of material. I agree that nothing bothers me more than being sensored for the "good" of the group. I'm in favor in moderators for answering questions and formatting purposes, beyond that, who knows. Just for example (I'm not ragging on them specifically, but The National Midnight Star got to be so redundant that I couldn't stand it anymore. There would be two good posts and the rest were about my cat named Tom Sawyer and my dog named By-Tor, and my Fish named Derek (wrong digest <grin>). Albeit they do a good job of covering the band right before and after a new album and tour, but beyond that, yuck. The cool thing about this digest is that we can talk about anything and hopefully most of it is on Dream Theater or stuff interesting to Dream Theater fans.

Taping: There have been some people bitching on here about people and trades, etc... I would just like to say, try to deal with things through e-mail and give tapes time. Most of us tapers do things other than tape, and occasionally we get bogged down with work, family, and recreation. <grin> In short, try to fix the problem before you blacklist.

King Crimson: With this list in mind I recommend Red (1974) as a starting point. Really driving trio material with lots of instrumental interludes. I would recommend In the Court of the Crimson King from the early stuff, and Discipline from the 1980's group (who Myung said he enjoyed in interview). Myung digs Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, etc...) who is one of the premire bass and stick players in music,

Other bands: Does anyone know if the new Threshold album is out in the USA yet, I have heard it is out in Europe. Echolyn's album is due out March 7th for all of those I have converted <grin>, Magellan should have a new album out this spring, also check out Shadow Gallery and Cairo who are also on Magna Carta records and are really powerful bands. The new Mastermind should also be out in the USA soon thus making it easier for Europeans and Americans to get copies.

Has anyone seen copies of the European singles for Awake albums in the US? I have been searching the import shops with no luck.

Chat with all of you later,

    Mike

Well, a mather of taste offcourse. Not that I think they're great, but I think most of you outthere would like the live album "Live-Loud-Alive", especially the wonderfull guitar solo's from Akira Tagasaki (sp?), he's smaller than his guitar, but he plays like hell!

Btw, I heard they brought out a new album, do they indeed still exist?

As far as I know, 'Psychotic Waltz' brought out three albums. I didn't see their name mentioned very much on this list, and that suprises me. They make really wonderful music, a little bit "surrealistic", especially due to their vocalist. If you ever have the chance to see them live, don't miss it! I heard they would be coming back to Europe (they're American, aren't they?), I am desperatly looking for dates/places in the Net(her)lands.

They only weird thing is you see them live, is when you see the guitarist playing rythem guitar, but you hear a guitar solo. That's because one of their guitarists made a mistake when he was stagediving a few years ago, and he has to soend his life in a wheelchair; if you're directly in front of the stage, you don't see him.

I don't recall the titles of their albums, but you should check out the album that contains eight songs (I believe it's their second album), the first song is called "Ashes", this album is really a masterpiece!

Yes they are. If don't now if I spell it right (I'm almost sure I don't :-}), but this is the line up:

Akira Tagasaki - guitar Minoru Niihara - vocals Nataki Niguchi - bass Mashayoshi Yamashita - drums

Well, here's a list of bands I'm currently listening to...

Dream Theater (surprise, surprise...) Yes Toto ELP Genesis Saga ..

I'm currently extending my CD's set with more progressive stuff (my to-buy- list includes Rush, Yes, and some of the other bands mentioned on this list) so I'm always looking for album recommendations (Since I play keyboards, I'm not so much interested in "There are no keyboards on this album" bands ;-) ).

    |It might have been To Live Forever. Do you remember hearing James sing this |a few times?

Hmm, I've seen the performance of it on LiT, and it doesn't really sound right. Course, it's also been a year and a half, so I could be remembering wrong. It's just that the first time I heard them (erotomania/voices), they really sounded like I had heard them before. (I also remember that it was really long, and I don't think To Live Forever is really all that long (What I heard ran well over 15 minutes)).

In the YTSEJAM digest 648, Michael Wolberg asked:

    > Apart from this I have another question: Can anybody pass me some > information of the bands "Psychotic Waltz" and "Lethal" ? > I've got this two albums "Everything Is Nothing" (?) and "Programmed" and > wonder, if there is some more music of them or rather if they still exist.

Lethal is a progressive metal band in the vein of old Queensryche and Fates Warning. They are based in Northern Kentucky, USA, near Cincinnati, but they seldom if ever play the major local clubs. Lethal not only still exists, but they released an EP (longer than a typical Van Halen album!) just a few months ago. They have three releases: the debut EP entitled "Lethal" (cassette only), full-length CD/tape "Programmed," and the recently released EP (its name escapes me now). Their CD's are difficult to find, even here in Cincinnati, but I will try to find out from a local store if they can acquire more. If so, I'll post how to get them.

Unfortunately, I can't find any info on Psychotic Waltz. I've been to the alternative/metal music stores, record conventions, etc., but I can't locate Angra, Adramelch, Anekdoten, Asgard, Black Jester, Blackthorne, Divine Regale, Enchant, Heir Apparent, Inferno, or Mercury Rising anywhere. Maybe I'm in the quality music netherworld....

    Hello,

ok, here some infos about Psychotic Waltz and Lethal:

Psychotic Waltz (from San Diego, I think) play a progressive, wiered kind of power-metal (????, i know it doesent fit very good, but try yourself to describe it...), which might be interesting for DT.Fans, so check it out. They put out three albums: - A Social Grace - Into The Everflow - Mosquito Lethal are that kind of bands, which are describes as a Queensryche-Clon (The Warning-Aera). Highly recomended for Queensryche-Fans and all other people who like to listen to powerful but very melodic metal... The only Album I know is the 'Programed'-CD, but someone mentioned another Album (please email me, I'm *very* interested to get my hands (ears) on it). Afte the 'Programed'-CD the released a Promo-Demo (which I have got) and because of the good music the lost their deal (there seem to be *many* ignorants in the music-buisness....)

I don't mind reading stuff which is not directly about DT, I mean: should we discuss whether or not we like James' hair or what kind of shoes Petrucci wears just for the sake of it!

I think it's kinda nice to talk about stuff that's in some way or another RELATED to the world of DT, it creates atmosphere. BTW the FACTS are in the FAQ, and if there were new FACTS we would be discussing them.

I saw two new CDs in a local store the other day (and would like to know if anyone has heard them, couldn't buy them - $30 ea). They are by Gema (Italy) and are of the NY 93 show (no specific date on the case), the artwork looks pretty good. Track list as follows: Disk 1, titled _Tragedy_ Metropolis Fortune in Lies Under a Glass Moon Surrounded Ytsejam w/Drum Solo Forever (I would assume that this is To Live Forever) Take the Time

Disk 2, titled _Comedy_ Unknown Dreamsong (I have no idea what this is, probably a jam) Pull Me Under Another Day - Another Hand Killing Hand Change of Seasons Wait for Sleep Learning to Live

I will also forward this to Mike Burstin, keeper of the boot list.

The version of the software that I'm currently running strips out a lot of the subscription requests which are incorrectly sent to the group. For every one that you see, I get to see something between 5-8 requests which were incorrectly routed :-/

If you look through the digests from last June, you'll see that there were a *lot* more sub/unsub requests going to the list in those days.

The correct way of unsubbing, btw, is not to send the unsub requests to ytsejam@arastar.com, but to send

    unsubscribe ytsejam

to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a blank subject line (or "asdf"). If you run into a problem, don't send your complaints to ytsejam@arastar.com, send them to ytsejam-owner@arastar.com. If you send them to the owner address, one of us will take care of it as quickly as possible (sometimes neither of us are around because of work or whatever, so it might take 24-72 hours, but such downtime is very rare).

Hello, I saw a new CD called "Majestic Harmonies". Has anybody got this one yet? I think it is based on a radio broadcast in Sweeden. The description I read also mentioned some stuff from '86. Is this the Majesty demos (those same six songs from the Majesty tape)?

    Thanks, James utz@pcbuoa.enet.dec.com
