I have all the TAB available off ftp.netcom.com and ftp.nevada.edu and To
Live Forever isn't on there at all (I just checked both for new material
yesterday). Anyhoo...if you get time to tab it out it would be much
    appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think anyone needs to be a rocket scientist to guess that mine has

    Hey guys,

I understand that Subconscious is sold out. Is anyone willing to make a
copy for me? Also, how to I get a hold of Instrumental and Instrumental
II? If they're sold out, can someone make a copy for me of them? I'd
really appreciate it. It would make my year. (Yes, I don't have much of

    See you soon.

I heard some stuff about Ozric Tentacles before I heard about them here
on Ytsejam, and when I heard about em here, I thought, "What the hell,
    they can't be THAT bad."

SO I went and bought their 1993 album, Jurassic Shift. This band is
AWESOME... someone made the comparison to Yanni...well, I can see how
some would say, "It's new age music." It would be more comparable to
Enigma than Yanni, but still, neither really fits the Tentacles very well.

I had heard them descrbied as "Ambient" music, or some people called them
Spacey Music, but actually I think they're not all THAT weird. They do
have some strange synth, and the guitarist shreds a lot with strange
distrotions on his guitar. Oh yeah, and the flute fits in very well,
surprisingly. It's also refreshing to find a band that has no vocals at
all (and I'm a big fan of good singing too.)

Either way, they never get any stranger than something like some of the
synth parts on Yes's Topographic Oceans album.

Actually now that I think about it, they're surprisingly accessable! It
sounds strange, but I guess it's in 4/4 a lot of the time (the drummer
though is top notch) and I think it could be used great during one of
those ray traced movie type things you always see playing at Best Buy on
their large screen TVs. Also, it would be good for some computer games.

So, everyone should go get a CD by them... I've only seen two, Jurassic
Shift and Abhorience (or something like that.) Are there anymore?
(If you still have any doubts go listen to it at Blockbuster Music...the
first track of Jurassic Shift will sell you on the CD.) :)

Just transferred to an account in Ann Arbor (from San Francisco). . .
    Thought I'd drop some thoughts. . .

    Arkham Asylum rules.
My favorite member of Dream Theater would have to have been Kevin Moore :<

But currently I'd have to go with John Petrucci for the album sound,
and John Myung for what I saw on the Live in Tokyo.

For the guy who was puzzled about the ending of the crow, please elaborate.

For those here that like Classical Music, who do you like?

And lastly, missing about ten digests, I was curious to hear any news on
    tour dates.

Well real lastly, I heard on Live at the Marquee, James LaBrie mentioned
something about a "Pull me under" single. Other than "Lie" and "The
    Silent
Man", what singles do they have out? Any news on the 2cd UK single?

You think RtB, Counterparts, Presto, etc. are more prog than HYF? Why
    is that?

     i dont know which
    > Rush albums you have but i have all but two (and that's a lot of
    Rush!)

I have all of them. Been a fan since '79.

     and
    > Hold Your Fire is the least related to DT

I never said it was related to DT, did I? You're right though, the
original poster asked for which was the most prog (DT style). I
should have been clearer that I didn't think HYF was DT-style, but the
most prog. in general. Mea culpa.

or Prog (save maybe Roll the Bones
    > and Counterparts)

Huh? "HYF is the least related to prog save maybe RtB and
Counterparts?" What is this supposed to mean? In terms of why I
think it's the most prog, it has lots of very careful orchestration
and instrumentation, and deals with some VERY deep concepts. No it
doesn't have any 20 (or even 10) minute songs, but that to me does not
make a prog. album (though I like a good long song as much as the next
prog-head). If you think of the "classic" prog bands, like Yes,
Genesis, ELP, Floyd, to me HyF captures that "essence" the most of all
Rush's albums. And it took me a LONG time to like it (as in years).
In fact, I hated it when I first heard it.

At the rate that rumors are popping, it looks like we are going to
get "A Change of Seasons the 2 disc EP!!!". That would be awesome!

    Now onto some Qryche info...

I went to the Qryche vs. 98Rock softball game on Monday in Dunkalk, MD.
It was alot of fun , even though I had to go by myself ( everyone yell
at Steve Z for not cutting work and coming with me!). I got all of
their autographs (except for Scott who wasn't there, they said he
was in DC watching tennis, what a pansy!) and I got about 15-20 really
close up pictures. I'm hoping they turn out well. Qryche slaughtered
98 Rock , it was about 28-13 or something like that.

Also, I have two tix to the Camden, NJ Qryche show on July 19th. The
seats are row D - right center loge. Please mail me if you are interested.

Just to correct something I saw in the last jam:

The "Seven deadly sins..." part of the album "7th son of a 7th son"--that "7 holy paths to hell is in the beginning AND the end of the album. As far as I know the lyrics stay the same both times. The only difference is that Bruce's vocal melody justifies the chord at the end, but not at the beginning because they go right into Moonchild.

And, as a segue into DT material: I would like for DT to do Infinite Dreams off the same album if they were ever to do a Maiden song. It rules.

As far as my favorite member of DT, it's hard to say. As far as the music is concerned I'd go JP. But, if you mean all-around-good-guy I'd have to say that Mikey is my favorite.

    See y'all later.

    ## meet women of the former USSR through romance ads ##

Months ago, Olga Kosmina placed my personal ad in several papers of the former Soviet Union. Since that time I have received over 40 responses for the $50 I mailed Olga. (I believe she paid the newspapers something around $35 and kept the rest for her efforts.) I have found greater success and savings by placing my own personal romance advertisement rather than purchasing addresses through Russian "bride" catalog companies. If you are interested in placing a personal romance ad as I did, contact Olga. She has built up a list of most every newspaper and magazine in the former Soviet Union and could help direct your ad to certain areas if you wish. She writes, "please say that I place all ad _throughout_ Russia and other countries of former Soviet Union, not only Western Russia." Olga is 23 years old, has a bachelors in biology and works full-time as a florist in Kiev. She speaks, reads and writes English as well as her native languages of Russian and Ukrainian. I realize that it is a very trusting person who would put $ into an envelope and mail to a foreign country. If you would rather send a letter of inquiry first, Olga will respond to your questions. It takes about 16 days for a letter to travel from the USA to Kiev.

Olga Kozmina Dekabristov Street 5 - 178 Kiev 253121 Ukraine

I have found that by placing a single bill between two pieces of newsprint inside an envelope, the Ukrainian post cannot see through and does not bother to tamper. I have yet to lose a letter sent to Kiev. I am sorry that Olga does not have e-mail because it would make contact with her much easier. I am posting anonymously because of the inordinate amount of e-mail which I would receive -- inquiries as well as flames.

    Best Wishes,

    David and Olga

Although Olga has never seen a newsgroup nor heard of "net-etiquette," she believes that helping others exceeds the cost of angering those who feel the net should not be used in this fashion. IHA (I humbly ask) that you not flame the postmaster of this site.

    About Occum's Razor,

I've seen them many times at Stanford. Apparently, they are all Stanford graduates, though not in music. They have at least one album, but they are still small-time enough to play at many campus parties each year. They're really cool; great guitarist, groovin' bass player, good drummer, and a singer with terriffic range and a great voice. I've heard them play really cool, sort of progressive sounding originals and good covers like Zeppelin's "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" (which is a cover in itself). Rumor has it that Occum's has written many originals that have yet to be released on an album, like around 100. Good luck finding the album, though. I have only seen it in the Stanford University book store, and very few copies at a time.

Oh, they're nothing like like DT. More like a Blues-Traveller mixed with Presto-esque Rush colors and Zeppelin influences. Does that make any sense?

As hard as I tried, I could never get into Temple of the Dog. Mad Season sounds okay but ive only heard what is being played on the radio. I liked Stone Temple Pilots first album "Core" but the new album is not nearly as good. I saw Weezer live once when they opened for Live and they sounded okay but I just dont like them that much. Ive listened to the Bush album and it sounded okay but I was ready to turn it off by the fourth song. The whole "alternative" (I use this word for lack of a better one) scene has gone downhill. I really dont like the new wave of alternative bands.

    P.S. Thanks Andy :)

At the show Ive been to they played WAY too loud. The drums werent overpowering the rest but everthing was just so distorted because of the high volume. When Labrie hit his high notes it just got so distored that it sounded like a high pitched squealing noise. To top it all off the keyboards were almost inaudible but you could hear it sometimes. (I could attribute this to the earplugs I was wearing but I dont think so).

    Hi Jammers!

Well, my favorite member is ... drummmmmms ... John Petrucci, too. Because I think that he's the greatest guitar-player in the universe. Ok, ok. Maybe it's because I play guitar too, but I think that there is no one in the world who can play like he does and no one has such a sound!! Well, but I have to say that I like Mike Portnoy very much too, because he's such a cool man and I think that he's IS the show of DT. If you see him behind his drums... enough said. :-) So let's say my favorite musician is JP and my favorite human being is MP.

    All for now.

    Bye.

    Bernd.

no, i really don't think you're nitpicking -- i noticed this problem to a certain extent at the Munich show in February, then when i saw them in Licht- enfels 2 weeks ago there were some very noticable problems with balance. don't get me wrong - i'm all for allowing my body to be bombarded by the low-end sound waves of mike's bass drums, but i _really_ wanted to catch more of john m.'s work, and this was simply impossible. therefore, i made it a point to just stare at his hands flying over the strings, and gained a deeper understanding (at least visually) what this man is capable of doing. even on the studio albums his sound is sometimes too subdued. after the show i got a chance to talk to john m. and implored him to get his volume on an equal level with mike and john p.; i also half-seriously suggested to him that if this was accomplished, they might be able to formulate a guitar-bass battle type thing, along the lines of Rush's "By-Tor and the Snow-Dog"... what do you all think of that? [on second thought, i don't know if we mere mortals would be able to witness such a clash of powers and survive to tell the tale :) ]

sorry for rambling on, but others must agree with me that this is one of the biggest problems confronting DT live... could someone with a little more experience in the mixing area (e.g. Hairball) back me up on this?

    rock on...

Hi jammers! Here I am again.First a question about Savatage. Is that true, that they will release again the Streets? And with 26 songs? I can't believe this.I just can't believe. It's amazing! And when will it happen? I'm verry happy that there are others who love Savatage. And about discovering Dream Theater: I heard them on the radio after the release of IaW.This was "Surrounded". I recorded this song. And I liked it.Then I heard Metropolis and Pull Me Under. This caught me.But I couldn't buy the album here, just when I went to Hungary. There I bought IaW,Streets by Savatage,Games People Play by Pink Cream'69 (the vocalist is now in the Helloween) and Desire Walks On by Heart. Each casette for 900 forints which for me was expensive. Since that time I'm a BIG DT fan,and I think the 1st in this town. Some people listened to DT after then I gave them my tapes. Then I got Awake, Live At The Marquee and last WDADU.The last two recordings aren't a good quality, but I like the music very much. IaW and Awake: My oppinion is,that both albums are very good. But I think I like IaW a little better than Awake.Maybe the production is better on Awake. But on the Awake is a song which is very strange to me.This is Lifting Shadows...It is a good song, but it is strange from DT,isn't it?And IaW was the first album that I ever heard from DT,and it made me a fan.I think that IaW is more progressive. And there is more feeling in songs.Oh,there is feeling on Awake to.(CIAW,Mirror/Lie,MBI(E/V/SM),SDW). ----------------- >ENOUGH!!! Stop bickering about who's the *best* guitarist. Everybody knows >that it's me! :> This is wrote by Petrucci. Is there any member of the group who reads the Ytsejam? Wow, am I glad your post caught my attention!

To set the record straight... Dal Bello is a Canadian artist (she was black, if I remember correctly) who was known in her country but didn't gain much notoriety in the U.S. The woman that was in the Queensryche video (for their cover of "Gonna Get Close To You") was NOT Dal Bello herself but a former Miss Argentina (don't know which year she was crowned, though).

I juat bought Carl Orff's "Camina Burana", and I was wondering if there was anyone out there that knows of any other operas that were similar in style to this one - it is awesome. How's this for a CD purchase at one time: Nine Inch Nails - "further Down the Downward Spiral" Dream Theater - "Lie" single and this opera...... :P cashier looked at me like I was nuts!
