This is for the guy that wondered why the Japanese CD's have bonus tracks
alot of the time (LatM, Awake, Qryche PL, etc)

In Japan, due to exchange rates and stuff, the japanese people can actually
buy the imports cheaper than the domestic release. i think the domestics
run aboiut Y2500, which is close to $25. anyway, to keep them from not
buying any domestic releases at all, the record companies slap bonus (bone-us)
tracks on there to get the japanese to buy them instead. this in turn hurts
the non-japanese fans that really want these tracks as well.

anyway, this is a general overview of why. i think kaoru posted this
last year sometime. (you still around kaoru??)

I recently saw a Jammer who used the following quote as a signoff:

"Tower of Ivory, they used to say. House of gold....
How can a woman be a tower of ivory or a house of gold."

The Jammer creditied this quote to Dream Thearter, most likely because it is
used in Vigil. However this is not a DT quote. This quote is from James
Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. This is also the case with
    the opening to Vigil:
"Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow...."
This is the first part of the opening sentence to Portrait.

DT also uses a Joyce quote in 6:00. "I know all abouyt the honor of god Mary
Jane." This one is from his short story The Dead.

What I want to know is, which member of DT likes Joyce? Any ideas?

Did I understand that correctly? You want to fill the remaing space on the
Acoustic Theater cd with Live's first album? If that's correct then I vote
no. I don't see how the two are connected. I would much rather the
unplugged stuff and nothing else than unplugged and Live.

I saw your web page on ytsejam and decided to check it out. WOW! I have

but I really dont have anything to trade. I read you sometimes trade
blank tapes and stuff, but I was womdering if you would pick out one
DT video and one DT tape with the best performance, best recording
and longest running time availiable and name a price. You don't know how
    happy you could makek me.

Ok,Ok, I didn't mean to sound to fanatical about the PETRUCCI IS GOD
thing. I suppose he is less than a god, but more than a man. Kind of like a
    Demi-god. Yeah, that's it. A real Demi-God. Anyways, I'll check out Alan

Also since everyone is saying where and when they're going to see
Queenryche, I'm going to see them in Albany on the 21st. And I have no Idea
    where I'm sitting.
One more thing: I heard a rumor that Rush was going back in the studio to
cut a new album this year, also that Alex Lifeson would have a solo release.
Is this fact or just too good to be true?

            Yes, it's _exactly_ a legal thing. :)

    > Also I really like the cover...simple but cool. Does it have a meaning?

Harkens to the work of Rush, so to speak. Plus, it's such a good
optical illusion that it fooled the printers, and thus you see the
triangle filled when it was not supposed to be.

    > How were most of these songs recorded?

Here and there... it's sort of the result of digging through my
collection and noting all the songs DT fans "just HAD to hear" as I
went... and then collecting more from a few outside sources.

    > Where can I find the lyrics for it?

Sub disc, can anyone direct us to it?

    > the band playing in the background or is that just a drum loop and some other

OK, the story once more for all of you who are tuning in late... :)

Petrucci plays the cover of WDOA with a drum machine as his
backup, then leaves the tape on his counter for one of his students to
pick up. A very drunk Kevin Moore and his roomate Rich Kern stumble into
the kitchen, see the tape, and a very big grin spreads on each of their
faces as they know, in that moment, what it is that they simply MUST do.
:) I know I took some artistic license there, but that about surmises it.

I looked at the info file for the list and couldn't find the info.
Is there any way to get older Ytsejam digests?

Now that I've firmly shaken the ground with that, I must announce that there are FOUR MORE copies of Subconscious available.

They are my prototype copies. I didn't even realize I still had them, and there I was cleaning the house and so on, and there they were. They are the same as the other copies except that instead of being numbered, the word "Prototype" is written in gold above my signature. They play fine; they were just the early advance copies/work copies I had, and they have the liners and all (which I added).

Anyway I want these four CDs to go to four people, ONE CD each, who have NOT been able to buy Subconscious. After all, if you still needed to buy this CD, wouldn't you want me to be fair? And, to the collector that just _has_ to have everything, I'm sorry to disappoint you on this one... the protos go to four lucky others. After all, the most valuable Subconscious CD, the original master #000, was sold for some $100 or so, and is likely owned by a collector here on the net. It'll keep you busy. :)

Those of you who have no Sub CD and want one, please email me FAST so I can sell these four, and they will of course sell for the same old original price of $25 (I, for one, refuse to price-gouge people) and I figure you all have my address, phone number, blood type, and school photograph by now. :)

Naturally, preference is to people who can buy them right away. If you can't afford a copy, I ask you to please be considerate of those who can and want to buy, by not having me save one for you and waiting until payday to send the money. :)

I'd think it was: "Black blade", "Veteran of psychic wars" and "the great sun jester".

And for the other guy asking, yes Lemmy was an original member of Hawkwind. He came up with a song called (surprise!) "Motoerhead". BTW, besides "Silver Machine" the only real Rocksong by Hawkwind.

So there's some kind of connection from BOC -> Michael Moorcock -> Hawkwind -> Motoerhead -> ? Anybody got the missing link to Dream Theater?

and let me know how much you want. I assume it'll be more than the original $25.

    Hello fellow jammers,

For those who are interrested, here's the setlist at BOSPOP, the 8th of july

    1. Under a glass moon (UAGM) 2. Lifting shadows of a dream (LSOAD) 3. Voices (V) 4. A change of season (ACOS) 5. Another day (AD) 6. Pull me under (PMU) 7. 6.00

It was a great concert and the gods were at their best. UAGM is a real cool opener, LSOAD is not my favourite as is AD but V and especially ACOS were great. For those of you who have not heard the new version, let me tell you that the intro is new, longer (I clocked 22.06) but there have not been very big changes. Me and my friends have not heard the F-word. DT were the only band who played an encore (6.00) althoug the Black Crowes were the first band on the bill and DT second. The only disturbing point was that JP, JLaB and DS wore sunglasses. I hate it when I can't see their eyes. There also was no reason to wear them, because the sun was behind them. Thankgod they threw them away during the concert.

All in all a great and very warm day. See you all after the vacation in august when I am back on the list.

PS. They said that they won't be back this year in Europe but will record a new album (the EP I think) and next year we europeans will see them again. So you Americans are very lucky. Go out and see them, bastards (here should have been a smiley, but I don't know them so I write it down). ------------------------------------------------------------------- Is it wrong to talk to myself even when there's nobody else? (D.W. Dick, Going Under) Young man says 'you are what you eat' - eat well (Genesis, Selling England by the Pound) In higher lives we seem to be always a moment too late (J. ok trey, i just spent over 20 hours in a car w/ 4 other ppl, and i forced them all to listen to DT (hehe i was driving so i had the power :) anyway...the comments i got were:

from a Rush/Queensryche semi-fan: "they sound like heavy Rush. like old Rush."

from a major Pet Shop Boys fan: "is this <insert any glam/hard rock/cheeze rock band here>?"

from a +Live+/REM fan:a nod of her head (she doesnt talk much)

from my gf, who dislikes DT (only cuz they were "forced" on her): "this is much better than that crap we listened to in Jeremy's car" (crap being Ministry, and some other industrial-type stuff)

so there ya have it. i think the Rush/QR fan is going to get Awake. he seemed to enjoy it the most.

Hi, my name is Vin and I am a friend of Al Balkiewicz...

Al recently was in a car accident and is in the hospital right now, and it seems as though he will be in there for a while. In the meantime, he has asked me to collect these posts for him, since I'm the only person with somewhat of a clue as to how to work E-mail. So I'm printing these posts out for him, so he has something to read. I was wondering if there was any way to get these messages in some grouped form, rather than individually? That way it would be easier to print out.

    Thanks,

    Vin

He was part of the "classic" Hawkwind line-up (Space Ritual, Doremi Fasol Latido, Hall of the Moutain Grill, Warrior on the Edge of Time), but not an original member.

I have to come out against Live in combo with DT. If I lay out $25 for a DT special edition CD I don't want any Live on it or anyone else for that matter. Someone else said they'd rather just have 40 minutes of DT. I agree. Would the cost be less if the disk had only 40 minutes? Probably not since you seem to want to fill it. Regarding the Ronnie Scotts gig, I agree with the above. What are the chances of finding out what the EP will contain since it's supposed to be out in September? Maybe Acoustic Dreams plus some other boot stuff from DT.

    Just my thoughts.
