    Hi Jammers -

Is there anyone else out there that is desperately wishing that
Marillion's "Easter" from the Scott's gig is on the ACoS EP?

I love that song -- and I'm dying to hear all the boys, PLUS Rothery and
    Mosely with them!

Caught in a Web, Lie, and The Mirror are the songs the Universe 7-string
is used on. Check out Passion & Warfare(Vai) for some more 7-string

    Howdy all,
    Sorry, no DT content...

    "John R. Kotzian" <koggie@cyberspace.org> asked
    >Wasn't Lemmy from Motorhead one of the original members of Hawkwind???

Don't know about that, but I did see Lemmy & Co. last night
"at the Theater of The Living Arts (TLA) here in Philly."
(Thanks Hairball, you saved me some typing).

WARNING: Motorhead concerts can lead to ear and possibly brain damage!

i.e. They opened with "Ace of Spades", got about 3/4 thru the song and
*POOF* all the amps on stage went out! I've never seen a band blow the
    circuit breakers before. Cool!
Black Sabbath was Excellent. Tommy's looking a tad long in the tooth,
but by gum, he's still got it.
A band from Stockholm.se opened - Tiami (sp?). They were really good as
well. Anybody know who they are?? Mats?

Those who answered 'Soft White Underbelly' are correct. Sorry no prizes,
except, the reward that you may be adding to others' knowledge of Rock
    Trivia.

    >>New Trivia question: Iron Maiden has done (at least) 2 songs which refer

    >>the songs, the name of the show, and the creator/star of that series.
    >>Hint, that series is a 'cult classic' and can still be seen on a certain
    >>cable network.

    >>In answer to the Hawkwind question from Jam 886, Yes, Lemmy from
    >>Motorhead was a member of Hawkwind.

Note: I try to make my trivia questions relate, at least remotely, to some
    thread in current Jams.

Another question, Does anyone out ther know what Steve Hackett, former
Genesis guitarist and founder of the late GTR with Steve Howe, doing these
days?? Hackett was often compared with Howe, they played in a similar
style, and his solo album "Voyage of the Acolyte (or similar)" received
rave review among early prog work.

On DT and soundboard mixes: every venue is different. A number of years ago
I saw Jethro Tull, UK opened. The mix was excellent, and we (my friends
and I), had second row center seats in a large indoor venue. In fact all
sound, even the instrument amps, went through the sound board and out over
suspended house speaker banks (we were acutually behind and below the house
speakers, and couldn't hear anything from the stage monitors.

I wish I could acually see DT live, so I'd have something to rant and rave
    about.

The last I heard about this is that Alex's solo release was due out around
late-September early-October. Then the boys will be back in the studio
to record a new album for release in '96. Wouldn't that be great if Alex's
album and ACOS came out at the same time? That would be my all-time

Also, I am glad to hear that Ratt is getting back together. I dug a lot

Hey all...this is mainly to Mike Bahr, but I would appriciate other's
    comments too.

First of all, thanks Mike for Subconcious. I love all the songs on it. It
rules. And FINALLY I have at least a semi-precious CD in my collection! :)

This is mainly about Cygnus. I am wondering a few things.
I don't have either Book 1 or 2 (A Fairwell to Kings or Hemispheres.) So
I have been debating, should I buy the studio albums and not Cygnus, buy
both, buy Cygnus only, or buy none of them. (I DO like Rush by the
    way...)

When you say beyong comparison, are you talking about the quality of,
lets say Exit Stage Left? Or the quality of Subconcious (which I was
    hoping for more...I don't own any other bootlegs though...so I didn't
know what to expect. It seemed to me most of Subconcious was lacking that
"prescence" that other live albums featured. You know, that clairy of the
hi-hat for instance. If I tweak around the EQ I can make it sound pretty
    good though.

Is the studio version better than the Cygnus verison? Is it better
quality? I don't have all THAT much money to spend here... :)
Well...thanks again Mike! You're the coolest. Hope to see you all on
    #ytsejam too!

For everybody wondering when DT will be in the US this year:

This is straight from Mike P. mouth after the Lichtenfels show in Germany.
(I was lucky enough to be in europe at the time of the show...did i metion that
i caught a drum head at that show and had all the members sign it!!!)

I had asked him if DT was going to be on the west coast at all after Europe?
His response was: "Not this year, but definately for the "new" album"!
What he then went on to say that they were finishing up the gigs in europe and
then they were going to do some shows close to home.(I'm assuming in the radius
of NYC) then they were going to take a break for a while and then start
recording the new album! Sorry to burst everyones bubble(especially on the
west coast). These plans that he told me might change, so we'll just have to
    wait and see!

You basically helped the marketing department there figure out how to market
something better. They take those things seriously, since they probably don't
get a whole lot of them back.

What I'm still trying to figure out is why the label didn't release a
slightly edited IF to AOR-Radio. It's got AOR written all over it. Even the
Assistant PD at my radio station agreed.

    >One other one I wouldn't mind hearing would be For the >Longest Time if they
    could get the harmonies correct.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. =)

If you like vocal harmonies, check out Take 6. Most of what they do is
acapella jazz (with percussion), and there's a bit of gospel floating around
in their catalog. However, they're phenomenal. You may have heard them
singing back ups on Don Henley's "In A New York Minute," or caught them on
Quincy Jones's "Back On The Block."

For you audiophiles, "BOTB" is one of the most incredible recordings I've
ever heard. Quincy is a great producer...the material ranges from rap to jazz
to hip-hop to r&b...and others. For the truly open minded, it's a great CD of
    music.

Anyway, Take 6 is opening for Pat Metheny here in Philly. I'm seriously
thinking about going, even though I hate the venue that they're at.

    > I don't think they were mocking Bon Jovi.

Oh, as if it really matters? =)

I actually started writing new lyrics to "This Ain't A Love Song" (that new
    song)...went a little like this:

"Now all the big-haired groupies are gone
'cept the ones who still live on my lawn
     And it's wrong...it's so wrong...
     This is a dumb song...
When the royalty checks are all gone
We'll just crank out another love song
     And it's wrong...it's so wrong...

Doing a soundcheck will give you an idea of what it'll sound like. Usually,
there's not many bodies around to absorb the sound, so, when the place is
packed, adjustments are usually made. The opening act usually serves as the
guinea pigs for these adjustments. <grin>

    >sorry to bore everyone with technical babble....

What technicalities? Monitors? Mixing Boards? Amps? PA?
What babble? Your post was short compared to my usual ranting & ravings.
<grin> Of course, I'm usually off discussing the philosophy of the
shit...But, seriously - You don't babble at all. You should hang out with
other engineers more often. Jim Gallagher (my mentor) used to go off for
about 30 minutes talking right over most of the class's heads. I found it
interesting, but, most everyone else didn't. It must be in our nature to be

I'm glad to read this. :) Kylania and I have both expressed dismay at the bot for de-opping (well, aside from the day Kylania got revenge on the bot and tried to kick it <g>). Mark the Journey song sounded great and I wonder how good Damage Inc. can sound with a growling death metal singer? Bill Talas was Billy Sheehan's old band it's hard rock and the bass it outrageous. See ya, Jim

Judging by my last post, my mailer is doing strange things to my posts. I apologize to anyone confused by them. Moving on...

To all you sound engineers out there, what is the best way to lessen crowd noise with my EQs. I have both a parametric and a graphic EQ, but I haven't made much headway with them and would appreciate some advice on suggested adjustments. Email or reply post, whichever. Thanks.

This is an open letter to Tim Lodge, who does not seem to read his Email. I'd really like to purchase copies of InstruMental I, II, and the Majesty Demos, but I refuse to send money unless I'm sure you have some held for me. Auto-sending me a copy of the CD descriptions every time I try to mail you won't cut it. I'm not trying to flame you, but I don't think you're going about this sale the right way. I'm sure by the time we would work something out, you will have sold all of your remaining copies to others more trusting than I, but if you do still have some, please let me know. I really do want them.

Does there exist such a thing as Dream Theater window decals? I'd love to put one on the back window of my truck. If anyone has ever seen one, lemme know where. Thanks.

To the guy who was bragging about his diversity in his inputs to the machine, concluding with the very obscure "Animaniacs: Yakko's world"

Let me tell you that it came up as a suggestion!!! My input was:

Tool: Opiate Blues Traveler: Save His Soul (I liked these guys long before "Run Around") Red Hot Chili Peppers: Blood Sugar Sex Magik Primus: Frizzle Fry Dream Theater: Images & words

And with a rating of "16", up came Animaniacs: Yakko's world!!!

I guess we've just witnessed where an input becomes an output! (I wonder if anyone else voted for Animaniacs besides that one guy...)

Just thought I'd letcha know. What fun!

P.S. Again, my results were VERY Fates Warning top heavy! Can anyone tell me which is their Hardest album? And which is the most like Dream Theater?

    Bye!

Silliness aside, you really should check out an encyclopedia or anything that might have some background about James Joyce; the man is a portrait of a truly demented subconscious! <G> Yes, Nora was James' wife; the song is based on a letter James wrote to her after a friend told him she was cheating on him - which she wasn't, BTW; the "friend" was trying to break up the marriage. _Hate_ when that happens!

Jaime the Dragon, GOADTK, title officially bestowed by the Great and Wondrous Nif Herself (long may She live, happy and prosperous and eternally gracious, so She may continue bestowing upon Her humble servant moore goofy names, and may Her true Name never be spoken for fear of tarnishing Her heretofore spotless reputation!), Queen of the Waffling Moores - because She demanded to be given credit for the name!

I have only been a DT fan for about month(well a big fan where I need to own as much as I can fan) and in that time I have created Four new fans, and this is without even making an attempt. Well much of an attempt. I got my Girlfriend to like them without much problem since I have WDADU, IAW, and Awake in my car and I drive her everywhere so I she had to listen to them all the time. Even so she liked them from the start. One of my best friends came about a similar way. He and I like most of the same heavy music(Metallica, AIC, Pantera, etc....) and he too finds himself in my car like 24-7 so he also heard it all the time and is now a fan. This one girl just happened to be in the car while I was playing IAW and said something like, "Phil I can't believe you are playing music this is really this good." ( Some people just don't like Pantera and METALLICA). And finally my fourth victim was a yanni fan(Yannis is great and you can't say he isn't. He is similar enough to DT that my dad heart a DT song and said, Is that Yanni?') Anyway, playing on her like of that kind of music, I played Another Day for her. Basically she had an orgasm in the back seat of my car. Seriously. Ask my girlfriend or any of the four others who were their. Ever since then she begs me to play that song whenever I am around. She also loves most of the rest of IAW. So there it is. The stories. I guess this post if kind of dumb but interesting none the less. Can't wait till I get to college and infect my entre dorm with DT fever!!!!!!!

    hi all!

in regards to the suggestion to put LIVE on the Acoustic Dreams cd....

    please dont.

i agree with marc who said paraphrasing "if im putting out $25 for a special edition dt disc... then i want to hear dt..." ... Mike , i think there must be something you could put on there even if is just some really good live versions of regular dt songs ... or more of the Ronnie Scotts gig....

IF THE GODS ARE LISTENING.... HERE IS MY SACRIFICE OF TWO FATTED CALVES TO MAKE SURE THAT DAMAGE INC. GETS ON THE EP!!!!!!

(hey mike....if DT management screws that one up ... maybe you can make up for it...)

is there anyway we can write them and convince them (maybe like we did last time)...?????

    later,

and may you never be caugh in a dead end by an iron golem!

Hi, all! It's been a long time since I posted here last!

    >>In Japan, due to exchange rates and stuff, the Japanesepeople can >>actually buy the imports cheaper than thedomestic release. I think >the domestics run about Y2500,which is close to $25. anyway, >>to keep them from not buyingany domestic releases at all, the >>record companies slap bonus (bone-us)tracks on there to get the >>Japanese to buy them instead. This in turn hurts the non-Japanese >>fans that really want these tracks as well.

    ------------------------------

Anyway, I haven't got any release information yet. What I've heard so far is that the Japanese version will be released on October 10th, '95. If you want to get a Japanese version (I don't know if it will have any bonus track, though) through me and will be able to give me more time than it took at the time of Awake, I will be happy to take the order. (If anyone can collect the orders in the US, it will be very much convenient!)

When I get any further information, I will post it here then.

    >> (you still around Koru??)

Yes, yes, but I've physically been in a bad shape, so I couldn't write back to you. I am really sorry about this! I hope the time will come to resume tradings in not a distant future, so please give me some more time and be patient.
