I seem to have gotten kicked off of the jam for some reason and I just
now got back on it. I don't know if my previous message went
through a few days ago. I'm borrowing a 2nd vcr for a few more days so
I can copy videos now if anyone wants to trade. My regular vcr is a
4 head hifi but this second one is 4 head mono. If that is fine for you,
please write to me soon and I'll send you my list of boots. Lots of
DT (inlcuding the awesome PPV special!), Fates Warning, Extreme, Rush,
    Eric Johnson etc...

Also, for the Ytsecon. I hope some of you lucky people that are able to
go will take camcorders with you to tape this. I'd be interested in
getting a copy. Also, I think it would be great if someone could
go around with the video cameras and get the names of all of the jammers
so everyone could see what some of you look like.

Just thought I'd say AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH being that in a few short hours, I will be missing out on the YtseCon thing! It sucks but being that I'm in Milwaukee, it would've a bit far for me to travel. Maybe next years (can we have another one?) can be in Chicago or Milwaukee ??? :) Anyway, quick question: in listening to A Kick Into a Dream, during TOWHTSTS, I noticed that there are absolutely no keyboards in it at all (at least none that I hear). Am I hearing impaired or didn't Derek play on this song when it was in the set, or by chance did he not play on it during this gig? I love that tune (fave off the first album) and would like to know. Thanx.

Yes, in the Images and Words #6 fanzine, there is an article/review of the Ronnie Scotts Uncovered show. At the end of it is the set list and below the setlist is the following statement: Some of the above songs will appear as additional tracks on the soon to be released UK single for The Silent Man - which will be available in a 2 CD set.

Now mind you, I havent seen it yet, but there is a record show to be held here in Milwaukee next Sunday, so I definitely will keep everyone posted if I get a copy of it (if its already been released). If anyone else already has it, please post and give us a description of whats on it. By the way, there already is a CD single for the Silent Man from Germany (I believe) that has the Take the Time demo and Eve on it.

You guys should really check out the new Kansas album. It really rocks and you can tell where Dream Theater got some of their influence. Also, if you liked Kansas in their heydays, you should try this new album. It is quite reminiscent of the vintage Kansas sound. Heck, I'm a big fan... buy it even if you don't like Kansas. ;^)

Hello! I'm Mantia Andras (Andi) from St.George,Romania.I read the YTSEJAM news for one week, but I can write only today, because I write tis post from school. So,I like DT very much,I think they are great. Someone asked that if there anyone, who think that I&W is better than Awake. So I think it is.The difference is minor,Awake is very good, too, but I like a little bit more their second album. I heared about them only in '93,but I got the I&W album only last summer. Here if I want to buy a casette (I don't have CD player),I had to go to Budapest,Hungary which is far from here (1000 km).For me this is a long distance.I wasn't at any live-shows,becasuse the bands doesn't come here, and for it I like to read your letters and discutions about the live performances. I have a question:what is this SUBCONCIOUS?I didn't heard about it.It is an album (I think a bootleg) with unreleased tracks? If anyone can help me, EMail me.I also looking for DT live-recordings.Can you help me to find these tapes? A lot of tanks now,if you can help me. This is for today,I hope that I can write soon to you. Andras.

P.S.:Is there anyone who like bands like Savatage,I.Maiden,Dr.Butcher,and bands like these? And sorry if i mistakes in my post.

Thanks Mike. I just got Subconscious today. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but so far everything sounds great. Especially ACOS (at over 19 minutes....). Sound quality is very good.

About track 15, that's the music from the Mortal Kombat arcade game, I think.

Another way to Old Bridge, NJ show: If anyone is coming from up north and is on the turnpike, you can also take the turnpike to exit #11, then take the Parkway south to rte 9 south (exit 124 on the Parkway I believe). It should be about 7 miles from when you get on. The exit is after the toll booth (35 cents). Then take route 9 south to Birch Hill (it's on your right about 1/4 mi. south of the rte. 18 overpass). It might be a little faster for people coming from NY to go this way.

    Dear jammers,

Yes!!!!! The Ytsecon was amazing! It's too bad that John Petrucci and James LaBrie couldn't make it. It was pretty funny at times too, because Derek Sherinian was hitting on one of my friends, and she's only 15 years old!!

Well, next time I'll see them is on June 13th at the Malibu. Yes!!!!

    Yours, Jeff =)

Well, it's a quarter to three on Sunday (6/4/95) morning. I just got back from the YTSECON '95. Lemme tell you guys that weren't there -- IT WAS AWESOME!! Here's what happened:

People started arriving and whatnot between 6:00 and 7:00. Mingling occurred. Let me just say, right off the bat, that all of the ytsejammers there were very nice and cool people, and BABS IS THE MACDADDY!! (all those who were there should get that one -- "Give it up" for Babs!!) Mike and Marlene Portnoy, John and Lisa, and Derek (no significant other for him) arrived around 8:00. At that time we all were in the midst of playing a Rock Trivia Game (heavy metal version, of course). So as the guys (and gals) entered, I shook their hands and asked them trivia questions, too! Mike Portnoy got about eight in a row correct (you don't understand how hard these questions were -- very few were answered correctly before that). More mingling. This time, with DT! Mike told us that they just finished ACoS. In fact, Mike brought a couple of cassettes with him: The entire Ronnie Scott's show (mixed), and yes, that's right, A Change of Seasons (from the studio). All TWENTY-THREE minutes of it!!! The Ronnie Scott's tape went in as all of the mingling and signing-of-stuff was going on -- no one really seemed to listen to it very intently. What I did hear of it, I thought it sounded very good, quality-wise. Probably as good as LAtM. Maybe better. More mingling . . . Raffle tickets were handed out, and rare European and Asian concert posters (that Mike brought for us -- what a guy!) were awarded to the twelve or so lucky winners. Mingling continues . . . . Then it was time to hear ACoS. Mike told us beforehand that it's a totally different song, which it definitely is!! There are a few parts from the live version, but for the most part, it's very new! The verdict? Well, . . . . I don't want to be a critic, but I was a bit dissappointed. It was SLOW!! Several of the parts that I really liked from the first version that they decided to keep for the studio version lost a lot their excitement because they're much slower. James' singing was also, well, boring. He didn't seem to push himself at all. But hey, it's not bad or anything. David Prater produced it, and no, the drums are not sampled. The drums sound damn good, in fact. Mike mentioned that there could be some changes made to it before it's released on the EP, so who knows? Other ytsecon attendees, please give your opinions. I'd hate to be the only one!! Oh, also on the EP will be MOST of the Ronnie Scott's gig. And it will be out in September. Derek said they recorded a new song, but the lyrics aren't written yet, so they won't be playing it out quite yet. Derek also said that they will be playing ACoS live (at the NY and NJ shows next week, and in Europe), as well as Under a Glass Moon and Learning to Live (well, he said that he's got to learn those, anyway).

Well, that's about all I can think of at the moment. Overall, it was a great experience. It was really great to meet Mike, John, and Derek, of course, and it was also really nice to finally meet some ytsejammers!!!

I better get some sleep now. I haven't been able to get the 'jam lately, because I sort of moved to Boston, and I probably won't be able to read it for quite a while. Oh well. Unsubscribe? Never! If anyone wants to get in touch with me (remember, I was the trivia guy . . . ) , I'm pretty sure I gave my address to Jeff Chew and Charles Jeffries. There ya have it!! Talk to you all soon (I hope, somehow!)!
