    Greatings fellow jammers!

I just received my subconscious cd in the mail last night. I'd like to
thank Mike once again for doing an incredidle job. Can't wait for my copy
    of Cygnus!

I only had a chance to listen to ACOS. I'd never heard the song before and
was very impressed with what I heard. Hope the EP comes out soon...

Hi`yall...More news 'n views from the UK....

Well, not really any news at all, but it's been a good few months since I
last posted, so I thought I'd say hi to a few people...

Jen, Doc, Brian 'n whoever else it was...cheers for that L.A. info you sent
me. Yeah, I know it was a while ago but hey, I've had finals to revise for!
:) I have to say, I just love your system for getting work visas...not. It's
proving to be more tricky to get to the states that I thought, but I'm still
fairly hopefull. With a bit of luck I'll make it there for the end of the
year, just when all the good bands decide to tour Britain I expect (*sigh*)

Mark...Awright, mate?! How's the hunt for DoE going? Givvus a call if you
    have any joy ;)

I'm still in love with the Kevin Moore Demos even after 2 months of it not
leaving the kitchen stereo. Does anyone else think it has a distinct 80s
feel to it? Maybe it's just me. Any news on whether his management is
considering a more official release at any time?

The guy that thinks Geoff Tate's lost it?!?! No way, man. Saw 'em in
February and he was spot on, even with the older stuff. I met them the day
before the gig and I'd have to say Geoff's a bit of an oddball. He sounded
like he'd been smoking stuff he shouldn't have been, but it didn't seem to
    screw his voice up :)

Question on an old thread...Why don't people rate Afterlife that much? I was
listening to it this morning and it's still one of my favourite ever DT
songs. The melodies fit together really well and as for the Mozart-esque
arpeggio keyboard bit...a joy to listen to no matter how many times you hear
it. Is John doubling this on the guitar? I can't quite make it out...

I guess I should stop wasting bandwidth. See you at the July tour!!!!!

    Later,

    Matt

    Hello all,
I saw a post in the 'jam from Hairball concerning Take the Time being
played in the background on 97.5 WPST (a Philly station). Hairball, I
just wanted to let you know that I heard it too! Last night (Thursday,
June 1) at about 9:30 or so, they played the part that you spliced. At
first I couldn't tell exactly what it was because they were talking over
it, but then my friend Matt was like, "Hey, that's Dream Theater!!" It
was pretty exciting to hear and it's even more exciting now that I know
I'm associated with he who is responsible for it!! I just thought you'd
be interested to know that another heard it. :)

PS--Everyone have a good time at the convention; I won't be there because
    I have to work...AND it's my birthday!! :'(

Wish I could say I was going, but alas, money won't allow it -this-
time. Congrats to Babs for pulling it off and getting three fifths of
this most awesome band to attend!

I wonder if DT and their management would be amenable to having little
minicons in different cities along their tour? KISS is doing this, I
think, for their next tour. I'd volunteer in a heartbeat to stage
one here in Atlanta. It's not as if I've never helped stage a
    convention before... (see below :))

I think it is safe to assume that all the Dream Theater dates will be posted as they are heard about, and reposted at least once, though probably many times more, every digest. I don't think that one needs to post any requests unless one is confused. -speaking of which, what is this that has been mentioned about a silent man 2CD single from UK?

Well, I am still recovering from the King Crimson concert trip to Philly that I took yesterday. I had an awesome time after hauling ass from Baltimore up to Philly and getting to the show right at 7:00PM when the California Guitar trio was going on.

When I arrived I ran into Chris Buzby (Echolyn-keys) and Greg Kull (Echolyn-manager) handing out fliers for there new album as the world (which is really good IMO). I talked with him for a few minutes and I noticed a guy leaning up against the wall outside with long black hair and an Ozric Tentacles shirt. It happened that it was Mike Portnoy. This was pretty xool for me because I had never met any of the band members before. He pointed to my DT shirt and I came over and talked to him for a couple of minutes. He basically said that they just finished recording A Change of Seasons and he was taking the night off in Philly to see King Crimson. It was pretty cool. They were clearing the outside area so I didn't get to ask him a bunch of questions, but I had a pretty cool night. (I was gonna ask him if he was booting the show, I wanted a copy. <grin>)

    SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Onward to King Crimson. It was a fabulous show with great sound after the first two songs (This is coming from someone on the far left so it was cool that it didn't sound like mud. The sound was also pretty conservative volume-wise which is fine with me. I have done enough damage to my ears already. <grin> The double drummer set-up was great, as Bruford and Mastelletto swapped rhythms with great precision. B'Boom was a masterpiece of drumming as well as The Talking Drum. Belew ran several effects through his guitar including seagulls, elephant trumpeting, and mellotron. Levin was impressive on Stick and bass and I got to see the famous "funk-fingers" for the first time. Fripp spent his time mostly in darkness weaving soundscapes behind the playing of the group (during the newer songs) like a tarantula waiting to pounce. During the older songs he played rhythm guitar and some distinct leads. Overall I had a hell of a lot of fun and I a glad I will be seeing them again in Washington next week.

    Later,

    Mike

OK just a little more info about DT in NJ. I picked up my tickets from Birch Hill. The seem to have a whole buncha tickets left. DT will be hitting the stage 'round midnight, though the doors open at 8:00 PM. There are a coupla cover bands, forget their names (thus their importance)...no one I've ever heard of, must be local. Anyhow, basic info again: DT (obviously) June 9th Birch Hill Night Club, Old Bridge NJ (908) 536-0650 $12.50 tickets in advance/$15.00 at door plenty available, no seating it's just an open bar/nightclub min age 18 to enter/21 to drink

directions from NYC: Take your favorite (?) route to get to the New Jersey turnpike. Drive south until you hit the exit for 18 south (I believe it's either exit 8 or 9, I forget). Travel on 18 south for about 10 miles until you reach an exit for 9 south (it'll turn from a route 1 kinda road with lights into a 2 lane highway, the exit is after it turns into a highway). About a mile down 9 south is the entrance to Birch Hill on your right.

Enjoy! Hope to see fellow YTSEjammers there (though I don't have a shirt, how does one get one?) APJ
