Hello everyone, it's Babs. Please be patient with this post, it is Monday
morning and I have had very little sleep this past weekend.

Let me tell everyone that the convention was a great success. It is at this
point that I want to thank the ytsejammers that were able to attend. I
received a call this morning from DT's management telling me that Mike, John M
and Derek enjoyed themselves very much. Everything went off with out a hitch,
and it was truly wonderful. Everyone's conduct (while the convention was
going) was great. For those of you that left after the band did, I want
to highlight some of the after events, so here it goes:

While I was trying to settle up the monetary arrangements w/ the Sheraton
the room got quiet and Jeff Chew started to play an acoustic version of
the Silent Man while his brother Greg began to sing. There were approx.
12 people left in the room and it was really cool to listen to everyone
start singing. That was like a nice ending touch to a great evening. Even
though I have entertained the thoughts of calling AT&T and having Jeff Chew's
long distance turned off - I forgive you Jeff. Just don't be giving me
any more heart attacks, ok?

After the room was cleared there was a late night munchie fest over at
Bennigan's. I saw a couple people from the convention there. Also, some
girl was there who claims to be Mike Portnoy's cousin. She then asked our
table to watch the door and if Mike came in to tell him that his cousin
Marisa or Melissa (?) said hello. When questioned about why she didn't just
say hi to him herself, she gave us an attitude. I have to admit that that
was quite entertaining.

After Bennigan's a few of the remnants crashed in their hotel room(s) while
three Ytsejammers cut up the dance floor in the hotels bar and then wound
up dancing with a wedding party there. I won't name names in order to
protect the guilty, but I will give you a hint - Babs was one of them.
Also, there were the usual childish pranks (knocking on room doors, elevator
races, and ringing peoples telephones). Yes, I admit I was one of the guilty
parties involved. I just needed to relieve all my pent up stress at that
point, that's all and no'one was hurt, except for the Ytsejammer that got
his tongue clipped by the elevator door when he was sticking out his tongue.

Again, I wish to thank the participants for their excellent behavior while
the convention was happening. Also, I want to thank everyone of my close
e-mail contacts that have been there for me these last few weeks just giving
me advice and helping me to remain calm. I have had a few personal things
to contend with while trying to pull the convention together and you guys
have been a saving grace for me. Special thanks to:

Tim Adams, Jennifer Albert, Jaime Kimpton, Mike Kizer, David Kuznick &
last, but not least - Kevin Morse (BTW, how's your tongue feel?)

Sorry for the extremely long post. Get ready for another one for the
rest of the ytsejammers when I give them a detailed description of the
convention itself.

Great convention! I had a blast there, mingling with 3/5ths of Dream
Theater and having them sign ALL of my CD's, music books, and official
biography! A big hand for my brother, Jeff Chew (HuntNKill@aol.com) for
his help in the arrangements! Without him, Dream Theater would never
have been there. Three cheers for Jeff!!

Hi Everybody!
Now after two days Subconcious CD on autorepeat in my CDPlayer my fingers
are able to hit the correct keys on the keyboard again. Wow, that's a real good
thing. It is worth every minute I've been waiting for this.

ACOS: really great.

by the way, who is the girl with this amazing "yeeeeaah" on "dead or alive".
The first time listening to it I broke down laughing, it sounds so funny
somehow :-)

Thanks a lot Mike!

First off, a big round of applause for Babs for pulling this thing
         off! It was great.

Brian pretty much summed up the event... I'm glad the trivia cards I
brought proved useful (killing time before the band showed up; once
they showed up Mike P knew most of the answers :)

One interesting point for all of us out west... Mike P and Dereck both
said that they would like to move out into the desert (probably
Phoenix, AZ)... Now I guess they would just have to convince the rest
of the guys that they'll like the weather, "it's a 180 degrees, but
         it's a dry heat" ;)

Great to see everybody and put some faces to the names...

p.s., Kevin, I hope you weren't hurtin' too bad for the ferry ride
         home!

Hi there!
Here is another summer date for you. I don't know if it is already mentioned,
because I'm quite new to Ytsejam.

Dream Theater will be playing at the Bospop festival in Weert, the
Netherlands, on
July 8. DT will be playing together with: The Black Crowes, Jimmy Barnes,
Chris Duarte, Del Amtri, The Brandos and Soapstone. German and Belgian fans can
also drop by, Weert is close to both the German and the Belgian border.

Bye,

Yesterday I went to a Record/CD Show in St. Catharines, Ont. and
was surprised beyond the imagination ( I didn't know what to expect ). I
only took $20 with me, for this I got a couple of used CD's, but I have a
couple of questions. This show is happening again next weekend in Hamilton,
Ont. and there were about 20-30 different DT boots on CD and about 15-20
different DT vid's.

My question is: the CD's were going for $30ea. ($60dbl)
the videos were going for $20-$30ea.

Are these fair prices (Canadian Money), or am I getting ripped off?

I must say - NOONE answered me about the John Myung's tapping
part on Metropolis - From various possible reasons:

* Noone really knows how to play this wild bass line - neither
Bafu Vai who seem to know how to play everything (could he
      possese a Tablature maybe????!!!).

* Noone is interested in this part - which I find hard to believe
due to the fact that this might be one of the most amazing bass
      lines recorded ever.

* You could still be working on it!! Which is reasonable cause
this line (which have even 32nd notes in it) is so HARD - so
      damn HARD.. Oh god!! Yes!!

* You don't like the song - JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hold you guns and weaponary!!!!! Every thing is cool!!
Every thing is under control - IT IS A JOKE.
( Cause after all - this is one of DT's top 5 !!!! ever!!)

* Maybe some people haven't noticed the preliminary message -
How can that be?? We YtseJammers read our YtseJam's with
      thirst... and hunger.

* You already discussed it a Year ago!! And I wasn't here to say
      - Ah!!!

To conclude this - I have pathetically tried to find this part -
And came up with a lot of different variations - noone really
scoring BULL'S EYE. So here is the most close one:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
--12----------------------12----------------------12-------------
-----12----------------------12----------------------12----------
-----------10-15-10----10----------10-15-10----10----------10----
--------10----------10----------10----------10----------10-------

Take this and Just change the chord: G G# A# C
(Take the same patttern and move it accross the Bass)

Tap this - .

If all of you guys're gonna ignore again - I'll probably
kill myself and there will no longer be John Myung related
messages - so....

So what???? Huh!????
Do you think you're the only one writing JM stuff?? Well you're wrong!!

Who is that???

I'm your inner you!!

My what???

Never mind - just end the fucken message!!!

Hey I didn't invite you!! I was gonna anyway!!!

Cut it out!!!!!!!!

argh!!!

No!!!

Derek definitely did not know TOWHTSTS at the time. After the Pittsburgh show,
he told me he didn't know it. Also, I got a set list from that show, and showed
it to him. This song was listed as "SPOCK" on the list, and I was curious to
know if Derek had any idea why it was listed as this. He replied simply "that's
it's working title," so I guess the guys explained to to him that it used to be
called "The Death of Spock," although he still seemed puzzled about it. I'm
glad we have it bootlegged, cuz the guys didn't seem much into playing it, and I
doubt we'll ever hear it live again.

anyway, I was saying that it was AWESOME!!

First of all, again, Great job Babs!!

I've never met the guys before (only seen 'em once in concert) but I
thought they were really cool. I was very impressed.

I had to laugh at my friend when I got home 'cause he was going to go, but
said that he couldn't afford it. I said HA! it only cost me about $45 total.

Anyway, I'm waiting for my pictures to get developed, can't wait, I think I
got some good one's (like Mike Portnoy holding an Easter Basket).

About ACOS: I thougt it was awesome. It sounded like a completely
different song (than the original version) At least it sounded that way to
me. Oh yeah, I thought this was kind of funny. This is what Derek had to
say about ACOS: "It's the only song where when I get to the end, I can feel
my whiskers growing in."

Well, now all I have to do is meet James and John, and get them to sign my
poster (lucky raffle winner #3 of a poster from Germany).
Again, great job Babs (and Tim for the tags) and everyone there, it was a
good time, and I hope there are many more to come! (You're organizin' right

What's up everyone? Sorry about no DT content, but in the past a lot of
people on the 'jam have talked about Echolyn and FW being good
progressive rock bands. Well, I finally found a record store here that
carries some of their stuff, and what I want to know is what's a good CD
to get from each band for a first-time buyer? How's Echolyn's latest
album? Which is better, FW's "Inside Out" or "Parallels"?

You guys on the east coast are so damn lucky that DT is from there also.

i know what you mean... it sort of gave me a sinking feeling for a few minutes
.. it was always something i was happy about, but i think my views have
changed somewhat and the feeling i had is kindof residual... i think it depends
how it is done... most of the time i do not appreciate f*ck being in a song but
there is this one Metallica song called "dyer's eve" where it just fits
right... if anyone knows how to use the word right, it's Metallica! It has to
heartfelt to be affective (sounds funny doesnt it to say that in this
situation? ) and casual use of the word in music really annoys me.... i hope
it doesnt make ACOS uncomfortable for me....

IMHO

This is my first post in.. probably about a year.. after a (too-long) lapse
from this list.. but anyways, I'll make it short and sweet. I noticed on the
last FAQ that I looked at, that there were *6* videos DT had around. I've
got the 'Live in Tokyo' with the 3 videos off of I&W.. Is there any
commercially available tape that has the videos from Awake?

Has anybody seen, or does anyone have a copy of, the photo about which Kevin
Moore wrote Space Dye Vest? I would really love to see this photo, to see how
that girl could have affected him so much . . .

For those of us who don't know, Kevin Moore found a magazine photo of a model
wearing a space dye vest, and he fell in love with the photo . . . he carried
it around with him for weeks.

Hence the lyrics 'as long as it stays on the page' or whatever, I don't
remember exactly.

Anyway, I WANT THIS PHOTO!!!!!

Hi Jammers!

I'm a little sad that I wasn't at this con. But the way from Germany
would have been a little too far... :)
But I'm very happy to hear that they will play ACOS here in Europe
(Saarbruecken). I'm looking forward for the new version even though
I think that the version on SUBCONSCIOUS is AWSOME!!

Bye.

Help me. I've been hoping that someone would refer to this Ronnie Scotts gig
with more than the title, but I see that I've been wrong. So...what is it?

(I'll miss the fast ACOS. I loved the full-effect blistering solos of the
DOE version--made it my favorite song of any.)

Hi All,

First of all hello to all my friends back in America (I am now in
Hamburg, Germany for the summer, anyone else in Hamburg?), that is hi
Scott et al.

Well I wanted to comment of some reviews of the Ytsecon. It is too bad
that I couldn't make it. But someone mentioned Derek hitting on their 15
year old friend. Well this is very easy for me to believe. During the
after show type get together at the Milwaukee show Derek was one of the
first people out and he somehow had gotten these two gorgeous women to
follow him around. Basically that is all he was doing the whole time
(not that I wouldn't do that too *grin*). So he seemed to think that he
was quite a ladies man all in all. I guess I should have been nicer to
him when I met him (since he wasn't an official member of DT when I met
him I wasn't that excited).

Finally I am not sure about any other shows in Germany. I know that DT
is playing close to here at some festival with a shit load of other
bands. Tickets are about 65 Marks for the one day that DT is playing. I
don't think I am going to go since I don't know where the place is and I
don't have a car over here. Plus I don't want to spend that much money
and have DT only play for about 10 minutes. Maybe I will go though. I
am not sure of any solo shows up here by Hamburg (I have only heard of
that one in Saarbruken about 400 miles south of here). I wish that they
would play at the Docks here in town, that would be awesome!
