would be willing to dub a copy of the DT Subconcious CD for me. I was
unaware of this CD until they were all sold. Please help a fellow DT

Sounds like the convention was great!! I wish I did not live so far away
(North Carolina) !!! Please, if someone finds out if they are heading near
this area, please let me know. I really must see them live sometime.
I aggre with the message about the 'child' who decided to record ACOS at the
convention, hopefully DT will overlook something like this, it only takes
one jerk to ruin things for everyone else!

New information about DT in Germany:
DT will play four headliner shows in Germany (Saarbruecken, Kassel,
Lichtenfels, Donaueschingen) and will also play on three or four Rock Over
Germany festivals as well as on a festival in Switzerland.
I don`t have the exact dates with me right now, but I`ll probably post
    them tomorrow.

    >someday you'll grow up and realize what a shitty thing you did.

I agree that with the overall idea that it was a shitty thing to do, I
think you are "reading" a little too deep into this. Saying that they did this
to boost their self-esteems. MAybe the person just wants to have a copy of the
song because they are a big fan (this doesnt change the fact that it
wasnt right). This is not a flame...just a difference of
    opinion.

While it is not the same as bootlegging a show to trade...what about
the people who bootleg perfomances to sell them and make money off of them.
Thats about the same thing, using the band to boost financial value instead of
boosting "self-esteem. Im not saying i disagree with this, because i like
many other people on the list own bootlegged shows and discs of that nature.
Many people say that it takes money out of the pocket of the artist, this is
not true because with the price of bootlegs, anyone who buys them is usually
a big fan of the band and will buy their new records anyway.

    Hello to all jammers!
This goes to MIKE BAHR. Hey Mike, it's John from Wichita, Kansas. My
vote for the recent DT UNPLUGGED vs WD&JU goes to UNPLUGGED> I don't
know, the way I see it, we have all heard the songs off of WD&DU. It's
great that we'll be able to hear James do them (I've never been a Charlie
fan, sorry). But I think a higher interest lies in hearing *totally*
different versions of some DT songs (ie- UNPLUGGED versions!). Besides,
have you gotten a hold of enough material to tackle WD&JU yet? So
here's my vote: UNPLUGGED! GO for it Mike! You know we're ALL behind ya!!

PS - those vidoes sound like they're to die for too! Go for it!

Yes, I do give a big hand to Babs for all of the organization of the
convention. . .Nevertheless, Jeff was the one who gave the convention a
LOT of flare, getting Management to listen to Babs and also getting
3/5ths of the band. We wouldn't have those nifty posters, our first listen
to ACoS, etc. It seemed to me that Jeff received no recognition (except
for "Jeff Chew and his Rolodex" in small print) from ANYONE else, and I
believe that Jeff should've gotten more recognition, possibly as much
    recognition as Babs.

Flame not intended, just speaking my mind.

    Greg :)

BTW, Mike Portnoy and the others didn't even know Babs until the convention.

About that person recording ACoS. . .I would have to agree with you on
that one. I personally feel that the convention was at a family level,
and that Mike Portnoy and the others trusted that we would not tape the
song while it's being played. I know the person who did it, and I feel
that he was way out of line. I'd suggest to him that he'd destroy any
material he has regarding the studio version of ACoS.

I hope I haven't made any enemies on this list!

During the last few months, since I became a member of the Digest, I #ve
read alot about boots of DT and QR. Being a great fan of both I wonder if
there is someone willing to trade boots with me. I just have one DT boot

Have alot of boots to trade about f.e. Marillion, Genesis, IQ, Rush, Yes
and many others. Please email me on the address mentioned below and I
    will send you a list.

    > Finally, we were given an audiotape that can ONLY be expressed >int he form of a CD. I want a vote as to whether to do it this fall >BEFORE WDAJU, or wait till after. It's Dream Theater UNPLUGGED! And >it's >crystal clear. Plus it has some tracks from when they were on the Bruce >Dickinson show. The track list is: > > Caught in a Web > Lifting Shadows off a Dream > Lie > Perfect Strangers (BD on vocals) > Lifting Shadows off a Dream > Wait For Sleep (GUITAR used instead of Piano... INCREDIBLE!!) > The Silent Man > The Lie Acoustic Boogie (you guys have to hear this) > Tears (so beautifully perfect your head will explode) > > So what do you think all? DT unplugged as the next CD? And >the >tape trees for the videos shall begin in earnest in a little while, >possibly mid-august when the school people return.

You gotta be kidding me!!!!! This would be unbelievable!!! I would just about kill to get a copy of this, and in CD form?!?!?!?!?!? Oh my god! Hi,

I've been subscribing to this list for a few weeks but this is the first time I've actually posted something!

what i'd like to know is, if ACOS EP is out Sept/Oct this year, is that a worldwide release or just in the U.S.?

I've been into DT for the past couple of years, ever since I heard the live version of 'Surrounded' (from LATM). It was featured on a free compilation CD with Metal CD magazine and I played it to death! Another issue of this mag had 'Take The Time' on the CD, and that inspired me to buy I&W. Since then I have bought everything they have released over here, as well as getting WDADU on import. There seems to be some discussion about what the best album is, but in my opinion it's gotta be 'Awake' - DT just keep getting better and better!!!

As far as I know 'The Silent Man' has not yet been released in the UK - I keep checking the metal press to find out a release date. It was supposed to be out to coincide with the RS gig - we're still waiting!!

Some of the RS gig was shown on a TV rock show over here called Noisy Mothers but it was shown around 3.30 in the morning so many people may have missed it!

They played excerpts of about three songs - can't remember which offhand - Damage Inc. was one! - and it was cool!

Sorry about the length - getting carried away a bit!!!!

Can't wait for the new stuff - roll on sept.!!!!!

    Andy

In a message dated 95-06-07 18:24:01 EDT, you write:

    >HOWEVER, an event transpired that I just can't let sit. No names >will >be mentioned here, but you know who you are, and I have a feeling >many >of you know who it was as well. And if that's actually true, I think >that makes quite an interesting statement in and of itself. > >I thought it was really wonderful that DT respected us enough as >*fans* and *adults* to give us a chance to hear the new studio >version >of A Change of Seasons. This was someting quite special; when you >share a new piece of music with someone, you are sharing part of your >SELF with them. They didn't have to do it; they wanted to out of the >goodness of their hearts. > >Then someone decided to destroy this special moment by using a >hand-held tape recorder to steal this moment for themselves. > >Let me ask you something. Did you even THINK to ask any of the DT >guys if this would be ok with them? Why not? You obviously KNEW >what >you were doing was incredibly sleazy and wrong because you were >hiding >your tape recorder like the little thief you are. Why did you feel >the need to do this? Are you so pathetic that you need to do >something like this to make you feel better or more privileged than >others who will of course come begging you for copies? This is NOT >the same as taping a show to trade, and you damn well know it. > >It's things like this that make me feel ashamed to be a music fan. >That there are those who forget what it means to be a human being, >and >let nothing get in their way of doing whatever it takes to make them >feel like they are "cooler" than other fans. How dare you consider >yourself a true fan; using them to boost your own self-esteem. I >hope >someday you'll grow up and realize what a shitty thing you did.

I know that you didn't mention my name, but I've decided to come out in the open. Yes, I was holding the tape recorder. Yes, I did ask Mike if I could record it. No, there was nothing recorded. I repeat, there is _no bootleg copy of A Change of Season_. I didn't have any plans to bootleg the song, but my friend gave me his recorder anyhow. Well, I didn't want to tell him that I didn't want to do it, so I took the recorder then "accidentally" shut it off as soon as he gave it to me. Why? Well, I asked Mike about it, and he said no. So, I repected that. So, I say again, there is _no bootleg copy of A Change of Season_. Also, I must add that I told my friend to stop his video camera while the song was playing. So, whoever posted this post about me, don't begin flaming people until you get the complete story.

I feel really bad about what has happened. So, when I see Mike next week, I'll tell him what happened at the convention. I'd understand if all of you guys don't respect me anymore. I deserve it.

    Yours, Jeff

P.S. I read another post about my friends thanking me. Well, I think that Babs deserves more credit than I do. I didn't do much. I just showed up at the convention and made a complete ass of myself.

Mike, you have my vote to go ahead with the new tapes instead of WDAJU - don't get me wrong...I still will get WDAJU (when you put it out), but these new items sound a lot more exciting!!! One quick question - how long is the total length gonna be???

Well... I have a few commments on the discussion over ACoS...

First off... about the use of f*ck in the song... Since most of us have not heard it... we can't really comment on it... There are some songs where it does seem appropriate... Think of the line from Spreading The Disease "25 bucks a f*ck"... it seems extremly appropriate in this instance... I don't believe that anything else would have fit into the nature of the song...

Also... as far as someone taping ACoS at YtseCon... well... I personally see nothing wrong w/ it... Its not like the person isn't planning on buying the EP when it comes out... I mean... its something that is new that we all want to hear... Its the same as before Awake came out, I trade the Providence Silent Man demo, CiaW demo from Nightwatch, and Lie from the 'Net... and then traded the pre-release copy of Awake that we got... I don't see much difference myself... -- +----------------------------------------+----------------+---------+ | And I'll smile and learn to pretend | Dream Theater | Michael | | And I'll never be open again | Space Dye Vest | Burstin | | And I'll have no more dreams to defend |-----Awake------+---------+ | And I'll never be open again | Let's Go Pens | +----------------------------------------+--------------------------+ For info about Dream Theater, finger mikeb@cs.brandeis.edu http://www.cs.brandeis.edu/~mikeb/home.html

A couple of days ago Ed Payne wrote about the new Kansas Freaks of Nature disc and how good it is. I must second this as it an outstanding CD and a worthy addition to any DT fan's CD collection.

As it was Kansas that originally turned me onto DT I highly recommend this bit of musical excellence to all of you.

Ok..For all the irate customers of mine who think I am GIVING away the CD's that they have paid $$$ for..

THIS IS NOT TRUE. Not true at all. All I was trying to do was establish a sales program whereby if you can refer a certain amount of sales to me, then you get free stuff.. compensation for your work......and it would take WORK.

    So everyone..please calm down.

The following appeared in Ytsejam #842: > I was crusing down the street the other day when I came upon a red light. Sitting at this red light, I noticed a DT promotional sign on a telephone pole. I was amazed that it was still there. The sign was advertising a show that never happened almost two years ago!!! I thought wow, I should grab that sign, but then I thought, it would be better to leave the sign in place for all to see. Now I make a special point to let all of my buddies know that the sign is there<

I'm assuming this was here in town (Sacramento) since you're back for the summer? That's something I've noticed around here: people love to post signs on telephone poles, but they never get taken down (to be honest, the two-year-old sign doesn't surprise me that much <g>). That is, unless one of my ex-boyfriends walks by...he had a wall in his room literally wallpapered with Cattle Club posters...

So, where is this sign anyway??

    >In other news, are there any drummers on the list? And do you think that Portnoy is just fucking amazing!! I'm a bass player and I can't play one beat on drums but I've been paying a lot of attention to Portnoy lately and he is blowing my mind! I hope he influences a lot of drummers because he is incredible.<

Well, Marc, I guess you may have missed the "don't play DT in the car/air drumming/air guitar" thread...I mentioned that my husband is a drummer. He idolizes Mike. :) Neil Peart (please don't let this start another Peart vs. Portnoy thread!!) was his favorite drummer prior to hearing Dream Theater, but Mike bumped Neil to second place...
