    Heh,

Knowing Mike Portnoy, you probably could've just ASKED for a copy of
ACoS... he probably would've let you tape it right off the equipment...
Next time something like this happens and you guys want a copy of some
pre-studio thing... just ask Portnoy... He'll probably let you record
it... no need to sneak around...

    Howdy,

I'm new around here, but of the 4 other lists I'm on this kind of blatent crap would not be tolerated.

    >Anyone interested in FREE Dream >Theater CD's, please email me. >I'm speaking in direct reference >to the Instrumental, Instrumental II, >Rising Power, and Majesty Demos,a >and perhaps some others....

I want my free CD now, and I don't want to become a door to door CD salesperson (being pollitically correct.)

    >For example, if you get someone >who is interested in buying you just forward them the appropriate >information..they cite you as the reference...and wham! you get >credit for the sale. The breakdown for sales is as follows: > >1) Sell 5 Compact Discs - Earn 1 free Compact Disc for yourself. > >2) Sell 3 Videos - Earn 1 free Video for yourself. > >3) Sell 4 tape sets, get 1 free. > >4) Depending on how this goes, I may offer a top sales cash award, > or something like that... :)

Maybe I'm just annoyed that I wasted my time returning an e-mail. Maybe I'm just annoyed I'm not getting a free CD. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood....OH WELL!

I still am interested in many of these CD's. ANyone got them for sale? After all, if you sell me five you could get one free!!!!!! (Top sales cash award!!!)

    Peace, -Bill B.

    I was just listening to I&W and remembered a few things about David Prater that I wanted to mention;

    1) I was told by a member of the band Arcade that Prater has "a tendency to show you one mix, then, turn around and mix something completely differently." This is why Rick Parashar (sp) (who produced the 1st PJ album & Pride & Glory's album - which kicks serious ass BTW...) was called in to mix Arcade's debut.

So, while you heard live drums at YtseCon, I hope the boys have learned to stick around while Prater mixes so he doesn't put those DAMNED TRIGGERED DRUMS IN!!!!!!!! I really hate those things now, after listening to Awake so much...

    2) I never really noticed it until recently, but, I&W has a lot of vocal double tracking on it. Best spot to hear where it kicks in: PMU -

"Watch The Sparrow Falling" <- single track... "Gives new meaning to it all..." <- double tracked

Again, I didn't notice it until listening to Awake constantly since last August/September (yes, I did get it then. I know when it came out.).

    3) As I'm not a drummer, don't shoot me; but those timbales or rototoms that you hear during Metropolis are NOT what's been added sample-wise. The HIGH-HAT has. Listen to it very closely you'll hear it. Either that, or it's over-dubbed. (besides the obvious snare & kick, gag) Okay...more later. Hadn't technobabbled in a while. felt the urge.

I say go for the the unplugged CD before the WDAJU. I would also love to see the video!!

Anyone else going to see echolyn at the Bayou on Saturday in DC? Friday is thier 1st show with DT so it will be interesting to talk to the guys in the band and see what they thought. Plus they are playing with DT on the 13th (right?). I was thinking that it would be really cool if some of DT (namely Mike) came to the echolyn show to see them do a full set!!

Also, someone was looking for some boots in the last jam. I've got alot if you wanna check out my list. Also, I can dub videos (only hifi to mono) for a few more days if anyone is interested.

Hello all! It's good to see that there are still some of you who haven't lost your accounts for the summer :-) Anyway, even though I still haven't sent Mike my $$ for Subconscious (by the way, what's the address again???) I vote for the unplugged thing, mostly because I like Charlie singing Charlie's songs as opposed to an overwhelming desire to hear DT undone (oops...unplugged!) What else? Congrats to those who went to the convention. I must admit that I skipped it because I figured no one would show up. I gambled, and lost. That's about all. Oh, to continue a personal tradition (don't ask), my five are: Mindfunk- People Who Fell from the Sky, Crimson Glory - Same, Trouble - Plastic Green Head, Souls at Zero - Taste for the Perverse, and The Organization - Savor the Flavor. Dave who? I dunno, I kinda like "dinky" little neighborhood bars. It was the Old State Tavern in Media, PA. I've been in MUCH worse! Andy the bar tender was real cool too.

    >Ask Dave what he thinks of our drummer...

Yowie-zowie, he is good! Not many local bands do really good drum solos any more (at least not around here). :( In fact, everyone in the band is really good, especially Hairball on bass, natch.

    >Wanna know what we sound like? Ask Dave.

Hmmm. Jazzy, light, bluesy rock? All original. Very enjoyable, even for an incurable metalheal like myself. (Sabbath & Motorhead at the Tower July 12; QR in Camden - YES!)

We'll be expecting ALL of you jammers on 6/9 and 6/17, including you Europeans, Asians, Aussies, etc. I don't want to hear any excuses!

    >So, Dave, I'd like to publically thank you for coming out

    My pleasure!

Looking forward to seeing Spruce Street Revival again ... (that IS the name, isn't it?)

that explains it (you are new around here). I tolerate Tim's messages because he's different from others who try to sell stuff on the net. I think he provides a valuable service to ytsejam, by offering the dream theater cds that he does. i've bought 3 or 4 from him myself, and if he hadn't posted to this list i would never have known about these cds. i don't know of any other place that sells the cds he does (majesty demos, instrumental I, and II), so i'm glad that he lets us know when something new comes out (like instrumental II).

if i knew people in my city that like dream theater, i'd definitely let them know about tim (and not just to get my free cd).

Ok now to address a whole pile of subjects at once.

    1. So far it's (no kidding) 71 in favor of Unplugged before WDAJU, and 2 against, so I'm going to go ahead and do Unplugged next. It will be done "sooner" than the huge delay between Sub and Cygnus, since I know a lot of you hate waiting. :)

    2. As far as Jeff taping ACOS... he's owned up to it, apparently it didn't happen, so I guess it's a dead issue now. I would suggest to everyone that we don't keep riding Jeff about this, because it's not as if he pulled a Jeremy Haynes on us. Being a "country bumpkin" from the remote wilds of Arizona, I know I have no etiquette whatsoever and would probably have committed even worse faux-pas, which is part of the reason I didn't go to Ytsecon (James LaBrie hates me already, and I sure don't want to be on Portnoy's bad side.) So what I'm getting at is... it happened, it's over, and now we move on.

    3. Holy shit, all three Cds sold in less than a day. (rush boots)

    4. Regarding the tape trees for the videos, I'll start these up in early to mid August. I'll post a "call to attention" here on the Jam so my trusty dubbers can hear. :)

    5. Generic info.

Of those 20 extra copies of Subconscious I had, 8 were snapped up within hours, leaving me 12. If you wish me to reserve you one, just let me know. The price is $25, and the address is:

Michael Bahr 3175 N. Price Rd. #1066 Chandler, AZ 85224

If you want a copy, _please_ take advantage of this now. Those remaining copies include my own personal extra copies, and when these 20 are history, there really won't ever be any more.

Cygnus... pre-ordering is in full steam. I'll post an update soon. The address is as above, the price is $23, and there is no limit to the number of Cds you can order. You also don't have to reserve: there are only 800 Jammers, there will be 1000 Cygni, and all of you are getting a shot at it before anyone else, so there will be enough. :)

Mainly I'm just rehashing this info to keep orders moving along smoothly, and to help with people who just need the price or address and already knew about the projects.

    Next up: Dream Theater Unplugged!

Mike Bahr, garion@indirect.com Take care, everybody...

Well, I'm not picking anything here, just doing a more let's say "complex" tapping: I use four different fingers. I hammer'em sometimes but the general idea is using more fingers then let's say: the ordinary billy sheehan style. But my transcription is obviously far from what John really do there. If you like I could tell you my exact fingering on this.

BTW: "I'm not so good at tapping" - just invent you're own nice little patterns (I have thousands) with different fingers just to get your fingers in shape and then you'll natrually progress and make more complex patterns - Find all you need in your mind if you just take the time.

If the unplugged songs are as great as you say they are, then count this as a vote for that before WDAJU. But Mike said he'll contribute the missing track anyway, so I think all the WDAJU songs are available. Since most of us have heard the sources that WDAJU songs are coming from (*decent* quality, but not *great*), then, hell--- do the DTUP CD first.

PS, I know Mike was excited about the WDAJU CD when he found out about it, but what does he think about Sub. and this new project?

Mike I think people are right. It's better to wait till you've got All WDADU songs sang by James. I therefore vote for the unplugged CD as well.

By the way how long do I have to wait for my Subconsious. All those great reviews have made me curious about it (It's about six weeks ago, that I ordered the disc).

If people are interested in an old interview I had with James last year, it was in August 1994 just before the European release of Awake, please let me know. I don't know if I can put it on the maillist, because it's about six or seven A4 pages text. In this interview he's telling the stories behind the Awake songs and also the fact that ACOS will be recorded and released as an EP. It was an interview I had In the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam of about half an hour.

Yes, network marketing--- the sales method of the future (many companies sell billions and billions of $$ worth of product this way worldwide). NM simply eliminates most of the overhead costs for a company that engages in it. Although many people have been left with a bad taste in their mouth in the past few decades by such companies like Amway, it is a legitimate (legal) marketing method. Compensation plans and methods of distribution vary greatly from company to company (i.e. you don't have to stock your garage with product, many companies take care of the distribution (and record-keeping) for you. Many well-known companies like Colgate-Palmolive, Hunydai (sp??), MCI-Sprint, use NM to move a certain percentage of their product. This is not well known since NM relies on word-of-mouth. The industry is growing (often exponentially) each year world-wide.

I don't think Prater is producing the EP... nothing that I've heard anyways...

I have noticed that his productions are rather sickly generic sounding and sort of thin...
